It's gorgeous, extremely generous, as addictive as ever, and the soundtrack remains incredible. If there's one Nintendo Switch 2 launch game that deserves your attention, in addition to the indestructible Mario Kart World, it's this Bravely Default Remaster.

This remaster revitalizes a classic JRPG with gorgeous high-definition visuals, quality-of-life improvements like adjustable battle speed and encounter rates, and a polished interface that surpasses the original, although the new minigames feel disconnected from the main story and serve more as tech demos than meaningful additions.

Bravely Default didn’t need fixing, and simply rescuing it from the 3DS is more than enough. This is a beautiful, heartfelt, and wonderfully classical JRPG, and as much as I love Mario Kart, over the past week, I’ve wanted to play this one so much more.

I’d even say the new gameplay additions serve as a better introduction to mouse controls for the hardware than the actual tech demo minigame collection Nintendo created. Anyone who picks it up to go with their new system won’t be disappointed.

I just hope this means Bravely Second will get the same treatment, or that Bravely Third is even in development.
