Overall, Black Desert Online is a typical MMO in every single way. While I disagree with their claim that it’s the “next generation” of MMOs, I did find the character creation to be the most robust of any MMO out there. Unfortunately, the character customization is the game’s biggest highlight, and many of the other elements of Black Desert Online can be found in many other MMOs.

Black Desert Online comes to the table with an intricate character sculpting tool, gorgeous graphical presentation, and a nuanced, exciting combat system overlying a less immediately apparent, but very unique, sandbox-style resource management simulation. Those looking for a rich narrative, complex or groundbreaking PvE questing, or highly unique monster design may be disappointed, but those seeking a mechanically rich, visually striking MMO will find themselves at home.

BEWARE: The publisher, Pearl Abyss does not follow their own published terms of service. They deleted my Black Desert Online account with over $5k USD invested in it and over 15,000 hours logged due to inactivity, despite the fact that their published ToS states that accounts that are inactive may be deactivated, and accounts without purchases may later be deleted (criteria which my account did not meet). Despite all of my purchase history being available on Steam, Pearl Abyss said that it's impossible to verify any of my purchases or if my account even existed at all, because all of the records have been deleted. Do not spend money in this game if there's any chance you might take a break for a few years at some point. Also I just want to state that this had absolutely nothing to do with the transfer of publishing rights from Kakao to Pearl Abyss -- I completed that account transfer and even made a purchase afterwards. My Steam transaction history shows Acoin purchases (only possible after the publisher transfer completed). Actually a scam and the publishers are trash.

A beautiful and entertaining new take on the classic MMO, with a strong player driven content path. I welcome that.

Black Desert Online has proven to be a real, nice surprise: an action title that hides a top-notch managerial, with tons of activities to keep you busy. It's a title worth to be tried, but only if you're ready to invest a lot of time, patience and dedication.

Great game, but it took way too much of my time. Also the market can sometimes be a really awesome things while on the other hand is sometimes just awful. Also can be way too grindy. Overall great game though.

Black Desert Online is an addictive and interesting game full of changes. It is so huge and it is so full of options, that it might scare away a few gamers. That would be a pity because this game is worth your money: after 138 hours there is still so much to discover.

Black Desert is a fully fledged epic MMO that can compete with the biggest and the best in the genre and is absolutely the prettiest one of them all. The world is a bit strange and gamers will need time to adjust but reasonable amount of interesting gameplay mechanics should interest experienced players and newbies don't need to be afraid - Black Desert is very easy to get into.

Black Desert Online wants to be distinct from other MMORPGs, but it isn't different enough in the ways which really matter. The game's few innovations aren't enough to make up for its myriad shortcomings, making it come across as just another MMORPG.

This game has come a long way, and the p2w stigma is really not true anymore, outside of a remote repair/buff access campsite. The mob density is really engaging and i enjoy blasting through big groups of enemies. The main complaint I have is it's hard to know what's going on, what to do, etc. There are tons and tons of different questlines and your log will quickly fill. There are also way too many items, these two things lead to a very confusing new player experience.

Open world PvP with limited reprocussions for griefing, so you know what happens? Griefing is rampant, some guilds thrive on causing problems, or karma bombing - you just need to google all the PK related problems which absolutely ruin a somewhat decent MMO, if grindy.

The only fun thing about this game was the character creation screen. This part is probably more varied than you will ever see in any MMORPG, but that's where the good thing about the game ends. The gameplay was unintuitive, aimless and very repetitive. In plus, if you don't want to waste hundreds of hours of your life, this is a game that you should spend money on so that you can have fun without really wasting time.
