The game more than backs up its aesthetic prowess with rewarding combat and exploration systems in place. While the combat hardly changes over the course of the adventure, Apotheon asks the player to apply their knowledge in such a wide variety of ways that it constantly feels fresh and exciting.

Not only is Apotheon a tireless devotion to ancient Greek art and culture, it’s also a damn fun game and one of my surprise early favorites of 2015.

Incredible visuals and an epic, timeless soundtrack frame a rock solid Metroidvania styled adventure, that feels like the 2015 dream-child of the legendary Gods and Hippodrome games of yore. The controls may be a bit loose but this is one adventure that you simply cannot afford to miss.

Apotheon is myth alive, it's a beautiful and wonderful indie game with very good ideas, music, characters... The ancient Greeks valued balance and harmony in their art and philosophy, and Alientrap Studios has got just that. Apotheosic.

The action feels satisfying, combat is fun, and there are also a few nice surprises when it comes to gameplay, both as far as boss fights are concerned and in the presence of puzzles, particularly in the levels involving Athena, making the whole package even more attractive.

Apotheon is a solid and great looking videogame. Perhaps it lacks in some areas such as platforming, but it’s a very funny action romp while it lasts.

Dig beneath the effortlessly stylish veneer of Apotheon though and it soon becomes clear that its impressive calibre bleeds through into its homage to the engrossing Castlevania and Metroid games pioneered back in the 8-bit days.
