Age of Mythology may have been a risk some 20 years ago, but remaking it was a no-brainer. Retold feels familiar but fresh, and the changes made all feel like they only improve on one of the franchise's best entries.
With Age of Mythology: Retold, the developers have managed to breathe new life into the aging title and make it presentable for a modern audience without losing sight of its roots. Players who already liked the fantasy spin-off back then will definitely get their money's worth here.

Ultimately, this Age of Mythology Retold is an excellent starting point to give new life to the saga and, in the future, offer fans what they have been asking for so long, a new Age of Mythology.
Much as I like the Age of Empires games, Age of Mythology's god powers and myth units dial up the fun factor significantly. The dramatic graphical update and small but sensible gameplay tweaks in this Retold edition make it easy to recommend for new and returning players alike.
Overall, Age of Mythology: Retold feels like a strong remake of the original. Ensemble seems to understand how to craft an engaging RTS that not only feels great for newcomers but also honors the past. However, its graphical style may be a bit too rough around the edges for some, and it may not be modern enough for others. That being said, it still feels well worth the price of admission for anyone looking to sink their teeth into a brand-new RTS. And with all the content on the horizon, the fun may never have to end.
The return of another iconic RTS was successful, and the blending of the original gameplay with new graphics and mods was done well. It's not perfect, but the game is qualitatively better than many of its contemporaries. The settler priority system is currently unreliable, but it could gradually improve and eventually it will probably be a trend in modern strategies, where a few similar attempts have already appeared.
Age of Mythology: Retold eliminates the need to play the original titles as it takes everything from both of those games, modernizes it and brings the experience to 2024. While it lacks the polish of Age of Empires IV, the game remains extremely fun thanks to the mythological units and God Powers that can be recharged and used multiple times. This aspect adds more depth that may have not been there for some players for AOE4. The gameplay aspect does still feel like a RTS from 2002, but the campaign, skirmish and the option of PVE multiplayer will supply a ton of hours to dive into Retold.
Age of Mythology returns as legends should — a shining example of how to create the perfect remaster. This version is a tribute to the classic and a masterful adaptation for a new generation of players. With innovative mechanics like the reimagined use of divine powers, the introduction of the fifth age, and unique challenges in the Arena of the Gods, the game feels fresh while retaining the original's magic. It’s like tasting an apple from the Garden of the Hesperides — a perfect blend of nostalgic sweetness and the vibrant allure of the new. The game offers something for everyone: epic nighttime sieges of Troy in the campaign, intense multiplayer battles, or simply the chance to immerse yourself in a mythical world — the choice is yours. The developers have managed to preserve the charm that made us fall in love with the original while introducing thoughtful additions that make each gaming session even more engaging. Yes, the initial release had a few bugs, such as multiplayer issues and minor campaign errors. However, the development team has been quick to address these, demonstrating their respect for the community. It’s especially heartening to see how they listen to and respond to player feedback, which gives us great hope for the game’s future. This is not just a remaster — it’s a masterpiece crafted with passion and love. Thank you to the developers for making us feel young again, for reigniting our nostalgia, and for inspiring dreams of what’s to come. We eagerly await new pantheons, storylines, and challenges that will continue to expand this mythological epic.
Todo lo relativo al gameplay es un 10, el juego está balanceado y es muy divertido. Pero la optimización y la interfaz es horrible y está todo bugeado, te echa de las partidas, se desconecta, etc.
I guess the improved graphics are nice. For its time this was a great game. That time has clearly passed when I went to play it. Controls feel clunky and antiquated. I just don't think this was necessary. I guess if you really love the original and want improved but still not modern graphics you could grab this and you'd probably love it. I like the original well enough, but it's kinda like super mario bros, awesome in 1984, but if you updated the graphics and left everything else the same... well it still wouldn't be that great in 2024. I would love to have seen a new version of this instead of a somewhat better looking version of the original.
