All in all, Across the Obelisk is a lot of fun, but only after understanding its core mechanics and making peace with the fact that you’ll need a LOT of runs to be able to build and upgrade a decent deck. If you’re ok with that, I can’t recommend Across the Obelisk enough.

Across the Obelisk is an exciting deck-building RPG that combines a magical fantasy setting with a charming art style and occasionally frustrating combat systems.

Across the Obelisk is an amazing and highly replayable deckbuilding experience with deep strategy and strong cooperative gameplay that keeps you hooked even if the audio feels cheap (Combat Sounds) and could be improved earning a solid 8 out of 10 (This could be a 10 with some changes)

Great game! one of my favorites and in my opinion the best roguelike/cardbattler. even better then the greats like slay the spire inscryption monster train and (maybe) balatro. the normal storymode can get an bit repetitive and a little annoying to unlock all the characters but the obelisk mode is an true roguelike experience with all the characters already unlocked so it makes up for everything else.

Awesome deckbuilding roguelite, I can't recommend it enough. Tons of build diversity, variety between runs, and it makes you think 5 steps in advance. Amazing with friends, my 4 stack has 250 hours each currently that we play exclusively with each other. Don't listen to the reviews saying it's hard or frustrating. If you play more than a couple runs, the combat mechanics make perfect sense and are super easy to understand. My group plays on the highest madness level and it's just challenging enough. The game without difficulty modifiers can easily be beaten blindfolded.

Had to e-mail metacritic to get them to take this off of early access so I could review it, heh. Anyways - this is one of my favorite deckbuilding "rogue-lite" games. I've seen a lot of people say it's hard but it's actually one of the easiest ones I've ever played. Much easier than say... Darkest Dungeon or Iratus: Lord of the Dead, both of which I've played. It's all about minimizing your card deck so you have ~15 cards (the smallest your deck can be) all of which are effective. In fact, the game goes out of its way to handhold you early on - giving you rewards you can spend on your next run even if you lose the previous one, based on your score. Once you actually beat the game and turn on Madness (higher difficulty modifiers) is when the game actually begins, as far as I'm concerned. Since from there on you can't use the free gold/shards you gained from previous runs, and it all comes down to just how well you've built your deck and how well you know the encounters. I'm rating it an 8, but that's liable to go up with the expansion. It needs MORE content and MORE areas. But as this is an indie game made by a handful of people and only $20, it's more than understandable. Overall, I highly recommend it.
