007: Tomorrow Never Dies

This PS1 game is a disappointment when compared to the N64's "Goldeneye 007". Even "Syphon Filter", also made for the PlayStation 1, outclasses it in every department. I mean, "Tomorrow" is kind of fun in a generic shooter kind of way. But it's way too short, way too easy and doesn't include any multiplayer modes. I'd rate it with a 6.2 out of 10.

The 1st third-person shooter of the 3D James Bond era, EA Games took a leap of faith straying away from the tried-and-true first-person Bond shooter. Controls are fluid and responsive. Control mappings make sense for the time (1999). The voices of the films' actors are replaced with fairly decent sound-alikes. I wish this Bond actor had reprised the role in EA's follow up titles on the PS2 (Agent Under Fire/NightFire). Pierce Brosnan's real voice would not make an in-game appearance until EA's final 007 project: Everything or Nothing (PS2). The racing sequences are satisfactory. The beginning of the Convoy mission makes for a nice Driver clone and is a proof-of-concept for what the PS1 was really capable of in terms of 3D open world sandboxes. Unfortunately, EA's follow up title for the PS1, 007 Racing, tries too hard (but fails) to recapture the fun of TND's racing experience. In terms of gameplay, the biggest setbacks seemed to be a lack of crouch toggling and a dedicated "reload" button, however the game does give you infinite ammo in your pistol just to ease the pain a little... In terms of EA's third-person James Bond experiences, here's how I rank all 3 games: 1. From Russia With Love (PS2) 2. Tomorrow Never Dies (PS1) 3. Everything or Nothing (PS2)
