The Prime Video formula has zapped the concept of everything that made those shows [CSI, NCIS] work. What’s left is an overly mechanical, largely lifeless run-through of a law enforcement team-up, without enough texture to make it all that unique or memorable.

Dept. Q makes the mystery’s web of lies feel like a window into a larger, well-built world. That quality, coupled with some thoroughly lived-in performances, helps the show stand out in a crowded field.
