It's sad because I absolutely love so much of this Doom, and I've played them all (starting gaming around Doom II), but there are a few downright aggravating design decisions. Finding secrets is part of the upgrade path of weapons. I don't care about all the skins and toys, but you have to find the secrets to finish guns, but going back and forth to the map to make sure you didn't miss something is such a bummer. Levels are designed in a way that you often can't backtrack, and a few times, a single missed jump totally loses you the chance to get the upgrades. In particular, chapter 12 features an upper level, and you have one chance make a jump before you fall and can't return. It's toward the end, and since there's no way to manually save, miss it and you're replaying the whole thing. That's just intentionally annoying. Whoever decided platforming should be more challenging than combat should retire. But much of the game is glorious, so kudos to all the animators and artists :)

I wish I could say it's equal parts funny and frustrating, but I think frustrating wins out. The terrible controls lead to some absurd comedy (much like the entire concept of the game) but they also lead you to curse out loud when you can't complete the simplest of tasks. And the intentional humor is cute but never outstanding. However, I do love that they saw this ridiculous concept through to completion. I think it's good for the industry in general. And I enjoyed Bugsnax much more, so I'm glad Young Horses has found success.
