Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute

User Scorexiaolinstyle
Mar 30, 2025
This could have been great but a few issues really keep this from being a good purchase. This is a follow up to the Assault Suit Leynos remake that was released in 2016. Which was a fantastic side scrolling Mecha run and gun shooter it has depth and character while being updated to current standards. ASL2:ST... unfortunately not so much. City Connection's Port does not live up to the standard set by the first game. While some purists may prefer all original assets etc this game clearly suffers for it. First and foremost the game is EXTREMELY difficult in ways that often feel arbitrary. There are "extra options" to help with this but I found them to be all but pointless. Scoring is still incredibly harsh and you are expected to not take damage from any number of single pixel sized projectiles coming at you from all directions. Do it quickly and oh yeah don't let any of your friendlies die either or you're getting docked. Harshly. "Well I don't care that much about scoring." You say? All unlocks are tied to mission score. Then there appears to be technical issues as at least two separate times I have run into a problem where the mission would not advance. This has kept me from being able to complete mission 4. I'm not sure what kind of QA City Connection did with this title, but I know it wasn't enough. Even at $25 I can't recommend this title.

Black Myth: Wukong

User Scorexiaolinstyle
Feb 22, 2025
This is a game of highs and lows and unfortunately as a *videogame* the lows are detrimental. Artistry, animation, graphic quality are all top notch. The lore of Sun Wukong is perfect. Where it falls down quite hard unfortunately is the combat. While being rather basic it still manages to be very off putting and frustrating. You have little to no defense. You are expected to learn what attacks can be dodged which should be jumped. No indicators and often it's quite unintuitive. When trading hits you almost always lose even when it makes no sense whatsoever. Then we get to the lock on. It's just a flat out lie. The PC will often just straight up ignore the lock on to turn 90° MIDAIR to hit a limb instead. It will actively AVOID where the lock on is to target other parts of your opponent. It's frankly super bizarre and makes keeping an attack plan almost impossible and always sloppy. The combat design philosophy seems to be geared towards making the player feel like a fly that can be squished at any moment the computer decides. I wanted to like this game but it feels so bad at times can't even play it let alone like it.

Arrowhead Games have a winner here. If you have played the first game you will see many mechanics return in interesting and fun ways, but even if you never played Helldivers you will absolutely have fun with this take on the extraction shooter. Helldivers 2 is set in a universe much like Paul Verhoven's Starship Troopers, very fascist and imperialistic yet using the language of ultra patriotic Americans. It's almost scary how well they have crafted this universe. This four player always online 3rd person shooter is a treat to play even if you are alone, though I would highly recommend running with at least one other person. Guns feel great, sound is on point, music does a great job of setting the mood, and the graphics are definitely PS5 worthy. For $40 it would be very difficult to find a better experience. Get the game. Do it for DEMOCRACY!

This game leaves a lot to be desired. Single player has some interesting content but pretty much just hits the same story beats as the anime. Boss fights toward the end are very poorly done and will definitely frustrate the player. Demons throughout the story mode rely to an almost absurd degree on huge uninterruptible attacks, and enormous health pools making the fights hugely unfair and tiresome. This also makes story mode unlike any fight you will have in versus despite looking the same. More than half of the roster must be unlocked through story mode with certain requirements for each. 11 of the 31 characters are alternates, meaning there are only 20 unique playable characters WITH the DLC. Online play is just bad. Most matches have significant hitching/skipping and they will often crash leaving you with a disconnected count. The bones of a decent anime fighter are here but the significant balancing issues, online problems, and just plain greedy monetization make this a pass for all but the most dedicated fans of the anime.

Jan 17, 2023
Breakers Collection is a passable attempt at a rerelease. It's not great and it's not terrible. Net code definitely needs a patch as no matches had decent ping rating and often the roll back was so heavy as to be unplayable. Offline is bog standard 90s arcade fighting game cheese. Even on the easiest setting after about four fights the AI is instant reacting to all your inputs and every opponent has the same routine: run at you till you panic and push a button then instant react or throw you. It's quite tiresome tbh. Playing against other people is really the only way to enjoy this game and that is unfortunately hampered by a poor implementation of roll back. Crossplay is welcome but when 90% of matches are horrible skipping messes it's doesn't really matter. This combined with the omission of the NEOGEO CD Extra mode, and no online play for team battle, this port is rather lack luster. Ultimately Breakers Collection is $20 and you get what you pay for, which is to say, not much.

Very good Dimps fighting game almost completely ruined by a lazy and greedy port. This game has a cult following for it's combat, art, and music that is well deserved. Combo system is well tuned and has many elements that modem fighters use. Problem is that 3goo and Dimps when making this put almost zero effort into it and made some very critical errors. The Rumble Fish 2 was originally a 4:3 aspect game that they've changed to a 16:9 but did not rework any of the mechanics to compensate so a number of combos no longer work and there is no option to switch back to 4:3. Then there is the broken training mode where the dummy doesn't block properly. The online HAS NO REMATCH OPTION AND KICKS YOU BACK TO THE MAIN MENU. Also no lobbies, no ranked just casual and no ability to tell how bad your connection is to the person its matching you to before you commit to fighting and have to kill the game to back out. The lack of QoL in this port is just astonishing but wait, it gets worse. The arcade version had 3 characters that unlocked after a certain period of time each of these are now DLC ONLY @ $4 a pop! So the game is actually $42 total NOT $30 and it's a very bad port. I can't say just how utterly disappointing that Dimps would release something like this. DO NOT BUY.

Combat is fun and instantly hands you a plethora of skills to kill bad guys with and the ability to learn more on a regular basis. You'll be chasing that higher score on each level as you figure out how to chain those kills for higher "beat" counts. Its a little finicky with missile reflection and that you have to pull the trigger so often but overall a good time, especially if you are into Beyond the Grave. Sound is quality with tires making just enough distinctly difference on dirt, gravel, or pavement to be noticeable. Music is where this title truly stands out. It is GLORIOUS. PQube has an outstanding musician working for them and every track is reminiscent yet new and always catchy. Gameplay is arcadey drift/turbo racing at its finest. Unlike the previously mentioned R.C. Pro-Am there are no weapons in this game. Campaign is a gradual curve upwards in difficulty that never feels punishing. Rain World is a beautifly constructed platformer that suffers from imprecise controls. This game was clearly made with love and talent. Art work is superb. Each screen evokes a sense of wonder and builds this alien world of machinery, animals, plants and various beings that defy typical classification. It doesn't do much hand holding past the first few minutes so you are left to figure out where you need to go. Though there is regular sign posting and a map so you don't get completely lost. It can be difficult as you can often die instantly from predators and your escape can be frustratingly hampered by controls that seem at times not designed for the intricate paths the game wants you to take. If you are looking for something different or even just a challenging platformer I definitely recommend Rain World.

Mass Effect: Andromeda
3
User Scorexiaolinstyle
Mar 27, 2017
Mass Effect Andromeda will be seen as the master class in how to alienate your fan base. I'll start with the fact that i quite liked the last three titles and really enjoyed the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. None of them were without flaws but mostly enjoyable games. ME:A however has almost none of the charm, likability, or even respect for the player that the previous titles did. Performance: This is probably the most talked about issue with the game so I'll deal with it first. It's a PROBLEM. The game suffers in many ways from technical glitches with animation, sound, quests, game crashes and more. It can look fairly decent at times but definitely not anything to be excited about. HDR implementation also seems to be a bit lacking but that's an emerging technology so i won't fault them for that. Frame rates are all over the place. Drops are frequent (on a standard PS4) and annoying. Gameplay This is the most well crafted part of the game. Barring aforementioned frame drops, combat is fast and the increased mobility and verticality of jump jets makes you wonder why you couldn't do this all along. No, seriously, why couldn't you? Though the almost draconian reduction in team control has me wondering if the current developers of Mass Effect know what they are doing (yes i know it's still "Bioware", but no it's NOT the same people). Vehicle control feels adequate though I'm confounded by the lack of any offensive capabilities with the Nomad when you acquire it fairly early in the game. Many other parts though seem to be there only to frustrate the player, from unnecessary backtracking to turn in quests, just the worst inventory management, to the complete waste of time scanning the planets you can't land on are. These and many more design choices aren't player friendly and clearly don't come from an experienced team. Story This is where the game takes a huge hit. Mass Effect Andromeda casts you as a Pathfinder for the Andromeda initiative. This ultimately boils down to you, once again, being the savior of everyone you know and love. Also you have a sentient AI embedded in your brain named Sam. So as Master Chief...I mean one of the Ryder twins you are tasked with finding and securing a home for hundreds of thousands of people. Which apparently involves a lot of murder, but whadaya gonna do? Unfortunately for the player much of this is told with a cringe worthy script and barely half baked ideas. Many encounters left me with the reoccurring thought "what the hell just happened??" and very much not in a good way. This is of course ignoring the stilted animations and 'please stop looking at my soul like a bon bon' eyeballs that everyone seems to have. Many have said "it gets better" I have, however, NOT found this to be the case. The further into the dull, uninteresting, me too story I've gotten the less I understand what the hell EA was thinking (aside from sheer avarice) releasing this travesty. Sound It has some, except when it doesn't. Yup, if you fancy multiplayer, it may very well decide that your PS4's sound card should now **** the bed. Because it will. Frequently. Meaning no game sound, no dashboard sound and any party chat you're in will sound like it's been possessed by an underwater electric demon. 2017 folks. Welcome to EA of the future. Summary Mass Effect Andromeda had tremendous potential but falls short in nearly every conceivable way. Fans and newcomers alike will be disappointed with what EA and Bioware have produced here. We have had several great titles released already this year, setting a high bar. ME:A falls far short of all of those and more importantly of itself.

First let me say that I really wanted to like this game. Seriously. Somehow SquareEnix has taken what should be a slam dunk and messed it up, badly. This game is a voxel style game set in the Dragonquest universe and has very cute art style, music, and sound. If you are at all familiar with the series you will immediately recognize many of the game's elements. The first misnomer is how this is being compared to minecraft. It. Is. Not. Minecraft. I will explain: Minecraft allowed players to combine to create something unique or recreate something from somewhere else. DQB tasks you with recreating a very specific set of structures, BY YOURSELF. This is a SINGLE PLAYER game. No multiplayer. No co-op. Nothing. You will never be able to show your creations to anyone that you dont force to sit on your couch and look at your tv. SquareEnix has also allowed the very Japanese design choice of not letting you customize the controls. This would potentially not be a problem, if the default layout wasn't so absolutely bizarre. If you read the above and thought, "well I actually like the idea of a single player only voxel game!", and have spent any time playing Minecraft or a myriad of clones then be prepared to want to break your controller. The control scheme has the menu button on 'x', jump on 'o', and those are just the major issues I had with it. Every part of the ONLY control layout is the most jumbled mess one could possibly hope to never have to deal with. Why SE decided to so sorely handicap a possible breakout star with such ridiculous design choices in the lack of multiplayer or co-op, and a default control scheme that infuriates anyone who has ever played a video game in their life baffles me, but definitely makes the game far far more frustrating than it would be otherwise.

First let me say this game this game is not for everyone. Having said that being a great fan of Vanillaware's Odin Sphere on PS2 I knew I would love this game and I do. Dragon's Crown is a love letter to DnD and beat em up fans. The art direction is jawdroppingly amazing. The characters and environments must be seen to be believed. Character progression is varied and satisfying. Combat is fun and fluid, although somewhat difficult to hit your enemies with ranged attacks. Voice work is quite good and I loved that all the characters could be chosen as the dungeon master...I mean narrator. The purists even have the option for Japanese voice work. The music score is beautiful but oddly enough, is only in stereo. You won't care after five minutes of Kamitani's masterwork in gaming visuals. Online is unlocked only after a significant amount of time has been put into the game, but local co-op can be enjoyed right from the start. Vannilaware has made a masterpiece, if you enjoy rpg's, beat em ups, or just art you would be remiss to not check out Dragon's Crown.

Dungeon Fighter Live represents much of what is wrong with console ports today. Nexon took thier fairly popular MMO and stripped it down to bare bones put an HD coat of paint on it and what would appear to be just for kicks added some truly terrible design elements. This of course is deemed worthy of 10 bucks where as the PC ver is free to play. I can get past having only 3 of the 12 classes, no sub classes and the MMO being removed for an awkward 4 player coop. What I find absolutely unforgivable is the game breaking design elements ADDED to the 360 ver. First of all as OXM mentions they made your main attack the loot button so good luck trying to do the single most important thing in a mission, keep your combo going, as you will be constantly interrupted by loot pick ups. Secondly and even more astoundingly both online and off line multiplayer are lock all players to the same screen. Yes in 2012 a game has been released in this condition. It boggles the mind as this serves no purpose other than to frustrate players trying to play with friends or just with other people. There are a myriad of other smaller issues, yet still annoying, that I won't go into that will ultimately leave most gamers wondering why Nexon even bothered with this port since they clearly weren't interested in it succeeding. Suffice it to say only the hardcore dungeon crawler/beat em up fan should bother with DFL, at least until they update it (if they ever do).

Dungeon Siege 3 is exactly what happens when marketing gets to much control. This game in no way resembles its predecessors. Obsidian already had a game they wanted to make, Square, in their seemingly infinite distaste for the desire of their consumer, said use this IP we bought even though your game isn't anything like the previous incarnations of this game. Now some might say that could be a good thing, well it *could*, but it isn't They took pretty much everything that made Dungeon Siege fun tossed it out the window and replaced it with boring crap. Customizable non class restricted characters? Gone. Replaced with staid premade toons. Large group dynamic including a pack mule to help you cart all your phat lootz? Gone. You run with one other npc. Great multiplayer that gives the game years of replayability? Gone. Replaced with what they have decided to call "couch coop", but I refer to as **** ie: ALL multiplayer data is kept with the host. In other words there is no reason to ever play this game with someone else online. You can't even bring your own character to the fight if you aren't the host. Think fable's notorious henchmen multiplayer and you have it in a nut shell. These things might be over looked if the game was fun, interesting, and/or offered some replayability, but with a dull been there done that story, no new game plus, and butchered multiplayer Obsidian asks far too much @ 60 dollars. Rental. At best.

Lionhead Studios apparently went out of their way to be the most dissapointing studio in 2010. Fable 3 has enormous potential but manages to fail so epically its really quite spectacular. Glitches and broken game mechanics abound to such an extreme extent that Lionhead has offically taken the glitch 'crown' from Bethesda. Fancy spending 10+ hours makin pies? Wanna play through half the game only to have to start again? Play Fable 3! Ive literally been forced to do both of those things I mentioned above. These are patently ridiculous things to have happen in a high profile title and Lionhead Studios should be ashamed of themselves. Peter "you aren't playing it right" Molyneux should fire himself for releasing such a grand travesty. There is absolutely no excuse for the unfinished and untested form that this game is being proffered at. For $60 bucks its a damn crime. If I were Mr. Molyneux I would never leave my house again.

Dead Rising 2 suffers from a number of bad gameplay, and story design choices. The design choices for gameplay are archaic and confusing. When you level Chuck you are given no choice as to what abilities are upgraded in fact it is completely random. One of the more frustrating elements is the impossibly slow run speed Chuck starts with. Unless of course you are carrying someone or pushing a cart. Then you run like the wind. A sprint function of some kind would have been a much better choice. Co-op is marred by the inability to roam freely from your partner(in order to 'zone' from one area to the next you must be within 10 feet of the other player), the limitation of only 2 players, the always on friendly fire, and the poor netcode. In what seems to be a purely lazy decision BOTH players play as Chuck in co-op. The potential for griefing will keep the vast majority of players from playing co-op with anyone except friends. If at all. The story depicts 'Americans' largely as ignorant, selfish, greedy, moronic, and hungry for violence. The developers feelings on american politics is blatantly unfavorable. Chuck's only redeeming quality is that he loves his daughter. Capcom is known for thier borderline stereotyping/bigoted depictions of people and Dead Rising 2 is no exception. Unfortunately this game also suffers in many other areas as well. This is a rental at best.
