Alien: Isolation9
Oct 9, 2014
This is in my opinion the Alien game we've been waiting for and as of now my Game of the Year. Even without the Aliens unscripted AI this game would be brilliant with its well realised world that basically sits you in Ridley's idea for this universe buts its the Alien that sets this game apart from games like Outlast or Amnesia. The issue most horror games have is predictable AI with set paths, while its still scary you can easily learn the enemies path and get into this repetition of waiting around a corner and then moving out when they've gone past, now while this does happen from time to time in Isolation with the other enemies (Androids and Humans), when you're dealing with the Alien there is no scripted path. The fact that the Alien doesn't follow a path makes it so refreshing because theres no studying its path and then exploiting it, theres just you having to make quick decisions and using your available gadgets to improvise on the fly. This is also another area games like Outlast and Amnesia have a problem with, giving you no way to defend yourself. Now while that may seem to be a good thing and be more scary, allowing you to have a fighting chance prevents the game from becoming boring and monotonous. If you've been waiting for a proper Alien game this is as close as you're gonna get, great campaign length (took me 21 hours on Hard) and wonderful atmosphere make for one of the best survival horror games.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons9
Oct 2, 2013
A game like no other. That is a statement I can say and be true with this game, having to control two characters is a breath of fresh air and provides some great unique moments. The journey this game takes you on is pretty fantastic, its lasts about 3 hours and is really well paced with no parts that will bore you. The game is mainly summed up of puzzles which will require you to use the characters at the same time in order to progress which is pretty daunting at first and takes a little time to get used to but once you do its really fun. The game is also rather pretty, with some great vista's. To be honest its hard to talk about this game without spoiling the experience, its a game you need to play yourself and for the price you should. If you liked to play something different, you should play this.

You'd think 15 minutes for each story wouldn't be enough but damn they pulled it off. Due to the episodes length, you're thrown into situations much faster then in Season One and must act quickly. You won't fall in love with the characters like you did Lee and Clem but this DLC is done great and perfectly sets up for Season 2. Already regret some of the choices I made but wouldn't have done it any other way. Also just for the price its worth picking up. I love you TellTale.

Ride to Hell: Retribution0
Jun 28, 2013
Normally when someone says "This looks and plays like a PS2 game" they are exaggerating. This game however is an exception to that, it is awful and could be mistaken for a PS2 game. It is overly shallow with a terrible combat system and awful bike physics, the game is covered in pointless padding with you riding your bike to locations with very little happening. When things do happen it doesn't make any logical sense such as tank trucks deciding to park sideways in the road for no apparent reason. This game seems like it should have released at the start of this console gen, it would have made more sense for this garbage to be launched then with other rubbish like Vampire Rain. This is the worst game to come out in the last few years and should never be bought, its not so bad its good like Deadly Premonition for example. Its just terrible and a disgrace to be released by Quick Silver when they knew full damn well how broken and awful this game is. They should have left it cancelled. I'm not even going to talk about the awkward fully clothed sex scenes and boring mass of QTE's It would be generous to give this game a 1.

If you don't bother to pay attention to the story, or search for voxaphones for extra details you will have trouble understanding the story. The game world is one of the best I have been in and most definitely rivals Rapture. The antagonists of this game for me personally aren't as like-able as Andrew Ryan was for example but I believe that is because I could agree with some of Andrew Ryan's opinions. None the less the characters are very interesting and are fleshed out with plenty of history. The gameplay is fluid and fun, I'm not sure how I feel about only 2 weapons at a time but this never detracted from my enjoyment. There are less powers then in Bioshock with only 8 in the game but they are balanced so that they all feel different and can work in harmony, using more then one power at a time to dispatch groups of enemies. The sky-rail is fun to use and can help to get out of a pinch with easy controls, though to mention people who are prone motion sickness should be cautious because the sky-lines feel very similar to a roller coaster. The controls themselves are very nice for mouse and keyboard, with a rebind-able keys and the option to turn off mouse acceleration. There is no map and the levels can get very big so getting lost can happen, this is where the navigation system comes in. Press N and an arrow will point the way which will help when you go exploring. I want to get invested into the game and story, if you want to feel something for the characters the game allows for that. I wants that but if you just want to play another fps and kill some people, it allows for that as well. Though remember if you chose the latter, don't criticise the story because it will only make you look silly because this game has a great story and won't disappoint.

Infestation: Survivor Stories (The War Z)8
Dec 21, 2012
For a £15/$15 you can't go wrong, for a game which is in its 'Foundation Release' stage it has come a good way since its release on the 15th of October and it is still being updated and will be for the foreseeable future. It most definitely has its issues and there have been some terrible mistakes when it comes to the marketing of the game but this isn't about the tactics the company use and its mistakes it made with these tactics. This review is about the game which some seem to forget, giving this game a 0 or 1 is complete BS because everyone knows it deserves more then that. The games graphics aren't going to blow you away but to be honest if thats why you play games, you shouldn't be playing games. The art style is nice and fits the zombie genre. The gun play is fairly simple and doesn't take a genius to use but if you know anything about the genre, you'll know the gun is not your best option and thats where the melee combat comes in which again is simplistic as it should be. It provides a good variety of weapons with a varying degree of damage. There is one map at the moment Colorado which provides a variety of terrain and locations with cities, towns, gas stations and Ski resorts too explore and find loot in. Most server have a max of 50 players with some allowing 100 players. There are plans for more maps with the next planned to release in June, the California map. The game is not PvE and has a focus on PvP as well as the zombie aspect, I won't lie you will die....a lot. The community is not the greatest but there are players out there who will team up with and provide more communication then the barrel of their gun. There is a marketplace which you can spend in-game currency on which is collected by killing zombies who also give EXP which is used for leveling up and having skills (This is a planned feature, the skill system has not been implemented as of this review). You can also buy GC currency with real money to buy items for convenience such as food and drink but you can not buy guns, there are a few ammo types available and cosmetic items like hats. You can also buy some melee weapons but these are common in-game. (All purchasable items can be found in-game if you do not wish to use the shop). You can have upto 5 characters with two gameplay modes, Normal and Hardcore. In Normal mode, when you die you lose all items on the player but keep the character and all its stats (Also skills once implemented), there is also a lockout timer where that player is not use-able, right now its at 1 hour but this may change at a later date. Hardcores difference is that when you die, you die. You lose your character and can not use it ever again. At the moment there are many features that are missing but are planned for the future, they will likely all be in before the end of 2013. If you want to have some fun in a zombie survival MMO for a low price (unless you wish to spend more, though it is optional) then you should give WarZ a chance, ignore the trolls and haters and look into the game yourself. Make your own decision. If you don't like it there are The Dead Linger and DayZ (Stand-alone) which may meet your zombie needs better but don't simply disregard The WarZ, give it a **** may surprise you.

Nov 25, 2012
Not much I can say but this The Walking Dead has one of the best stories ever in a game. You can't name many games that have made you cry, I can't but this is one of them and I'm happy to have played it. Yeah there isn't much gameplay but it isn't about that and if thats what you were hoping for, well sorry. Also I don't get why people keep saying this episode is rushed, NO TIME LEFT! Kinda says it all, you're running out of time. This is it, all we've been leading up to, there is no time to stop and think just do what needs to be done.

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction2
Aug 10, 2012
This game at its core is fundamentally broken. The physics engine is a complete mess and the driving mechanics are terrible. I wanted to like this but there is very little about this game that was done good. Even the loading bar is broken, yeah it has the most cars and all that but the cars don't work properly and when you crash all that happens is sparks fly off, where is the destruction. I don't care that you can break fences etc if I can't even break bits of my car like in the previous Flatout's, **** from 2005 can why can't this. Luckily I got it in the Steam sale in the Flatout Collection so I didn't waste my money but I deleted pretty soon after playing it. This game is seriously a game you must avoid.

Jun 1, 2012
Max Payne is always been one of my most favourite franchises and this sequel is the best of the picking, with slick visuals, great shootouts and SLOW MOTION. You will have a lot of fun and with absence of loading screens it brings a breath of fresh air to cinematic games. With about 12 hours single player and a ton of replayability as well as two arcade type modes you won't get bored on your own. If you do then you have multi-player which is amazingly fun and challenging. There is not regenerative health in the single player and it is hard so if you are expecting a call of duty, look elsewhere.

This is Portal plus a 1000 awesomes. Stephen Merchant is super funny as Wheatley and made me cry in laughter quite a bit. GLaDOS is as funny as ever and there are some great ideas thrown into this sequel. The story is pristine and the 7 to 8 hours you spend playing the story make up for the price. The game has replay-ability for sure and the puzzles like the first aren't to easy but not to hard either.
MUST BUY!

I could go on and on about the different mechanics and quests and items and weapons and people and jobs and all of the other stuff in the game but to be honest, it would ruin the game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 33
Mar 23, 2012
It boils down to the fact that this is just MW2 with extra ****, The game has done nothing to improve it's self and has only added extra stuff which can be exploited to further ruin the multiplayer experience. The void of dedicated severs is another reason this game is terrible, I mean if battlefield has had them for years now and Activision make billions from CoD I am pretty sure they can afford to get dedicated servers. See the reason they don't add anything good or improve anything bad is because of YOU. Yeah you the person who buys the game because all of you give them your money they have no need to make the game better because they will still get your money so the cheaper it is to make it, the more profit they make. An easy way to know this is the fact they spent less on MW3 then on MW2, if you can honestly accept the same iteration of game every year and consider it good then to be honest the gaming industry is simply going to die with the loss of creativity and good games.

Alan Wake10
Mar 23, 2012
To start off Alan Wake is one of the best games I have ever played, yeah the camera angles are annoying and yes you run through the same forest over and over but the fact is, you play Alan Wake for the story and it sure does deliver. The gun play is pretty solid with a decent range of weapons for someone who has never fired a gun, the flares and flash bangs are cool additions. The enemies were not the best with only a few types but they were I believe well balanced providing some tense encounters. The story is probably the best story in any game I have played which is over 230 on the Xbox 360 (not including the N64, Sega MegaDrive, SNES, Gameboy, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, PC and the PSP) so I think I have a pretty decent history with game stories and Alan Wake's narration and the manuscripts were really well done. Making the game like a book was a great idea and was executed perfectly with some great twists and cliff-hangers. The ending at first was a disappointing but when I thought about it, the ending made sense and was rather good at sprouting questions in the brain. This is a game that everyone that likes a good story should play but if you're for action, you have come to the wrong place.
A most definite 10/10. GOTY 2010

I was hoping for an arcade Battlefield 3 and well, I didn't get it.
The visuals I will let slide due to the fact it's an arcade game and cannot compete with retail games but when they said it had destructible environments I was hoping for a bit more then I got. The guns 's do look pretty good but the shooting is a whole other story. Don't get me started on the bad matchmaking, the game needed a lot more development time and to be honest a better developer. The game could have been a good FPS but poor controls and the simple fact it brought nothing new to the table stop it from even leaving the starting line.

Battlefield 39
Oct 30, 2011
This game is Phenomenal with the best multiplayer on the market. It is a major improvement on Bad company 2 and will keep me playing for years. The visuals are stunning and you can't help stopping in a middle **** to stare at the scenery. The gameplay is top notch and feels fresh compared to other shooters, with the destruction and variety of vehicles there will always be something new happening. Not to mention the ton of unlocks which WILL keep you playing for months trying to unlock everyone. Battlefield 3 has the best audio ever in a game and will scare you multiple time when a rocket whizzes past your head or a wall is blown up while you next to it, the sound will never get old and will keep you focused. The Multiplayer is obviously where Battlefield 3 game time is spent and DICE have made sure the time is a LONG time with 9 maps and 5 playable modes there is a map and a mode for you. Conquest being the classic and favourite it sure is the most hectic with jets and helicopters flying by which will be taken out within minutes by a stinger, T90-A's and Humvee's rolling down the hill which will be taken out by a javelin. No vehicle is overpowered and there is always a way to succeed. That is what Battlefield as a series is about, CHOICE. There is always another way to do something, for example if you come across a M1 Abram you could run hoping it won't pummel you with it's weaponry or you could take it out with an RPG-7 or you could take it out with an AT-mine or you could take it out with a Javelin. That is only a few ways for just that situation, there is never just one way and every way will be your little Battlefield moment. The Singleplayer in my opinion is very good and is the best war game story but because it is not the reason to buy Battlefield 3 I won't go into it much but say there are some pretty epic moments. On to the bad part there are a few glitches but they are minor to the ones in the beta, which most are gone. There are a few server issues at the moment though they will most likely be sorted out soon. This is definitely the game to get this year, it will certainly keep you glued to your T.V. for quite a while. Make sure to have some tissues on standby.

Oct 25, 2011
This is a great game and is one of the most fun FPS I have played. The story is not so good and the ending is where this game hit its low but the rest of the game is a blast from plowing through the wasteland in you buggy to decapitating bandits with the wingstick this game like an FPS should. The shotgun id's trademark weapon is as good as ever blowing mutants back to hell will always put a smile on your face. The main problem with this game is replay value, I truly had no reason to play again after completion but while it lasted, it sure was fun.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution9
Oct 25, 2011
This is a great game and one of the best this year. The action when it occurs is good and never too in your face but that was never my preferred way of playing this game. I liked to go stealth with the occasional gunfight and this is what the game is all about Choice. There is not one path which you must take, there are multiple paths with different advantages which makes this game shine compared to most FPS. The RPG elements work really well and deciding which augment to choose next can be tricky. Though amazingly I actually loved the story which is one of the best I know, the only problem with game is the bosses which are a little generic and not as innovating as everything else. This is a must buy for all SP lovers

Dead Island8
Oct 25, 2011
I like my zombie games from time to time and IMO this is my favourite one yet. So to start with the visuals which aren't that great, they look best in the first act with the beaches but they look rather ugly elsewhere. I noticed that the draw distance is not very good either and seeing a beach ball spawn in front of a zombie was a tad weird. The story is also not very good with some awful accents and a genuinely boring plot with no suspense, same goes with the mission and side quest which should all be renamed to fetch the item because that is all it is. When I played it took me about 31 hours to finish which is a bit longer then most but I do like to explore and kill zombies. Now onto the gameplay which is where Dead Island shines, there is nothing better then whacking a zombie in the head with a baseball bat and seeing his head implode in SLOW MOTION, the melee weapons all feel nice and kill zombies in great ways and that is before there modded. Firearms fall short and are not as great to use and don't give the same good feeling a machete will. The RPG elements are also done well with the skill trees all making sense and I always found my self wondering which skill to go for next. Now the modding is actually a lot better then I thought it would be with some pretty good weapons to make which pack a hell of a punch such as the sledgehammer with the Tesla mod which literally sends zombies flying. The Co-op side of things work rather well and you wouldn't really think you had left single-player, I only experienced a problem once and even that was minor.
In conclusion this is definitely a game you should take a look at and with about 50 hours on the clock for me, it sure is worth the cash.
