Suicide Squad5

So disappointed in this film. When I first read some of the reviews, I honestly could not wait to see it, just so I could defiantly disagree with the critics. However, 30 minutes into this abomination, I found myself agreeing with the reviewers more and more. The story is a mess, the antagonist is underwhelming, the stakes are not high enough, and the Joker has criminally little screen time. I mean, the Joker has so little screen time that I felt like I did not have a large enough sample size to gauge him against past portrayals of the character. Another thing that bugged me about this film was the director. I like David Ayer, but if you have seen any of his other films (especially End of Watch and/or Fury), you'll notice that he excels in showing brutal realism. The comics books upon which Suicide Squad is based are graphically over-the-top...they are [deliberately] far from realistic. In other words, hiring Ayer to direct SS is like hiring the late, great Johnny Cash to write a rap song--there is a good chance that things are not going to work out well. There were really two good things about this movie: Deadshot and Harley Quinn. Also, BATMAN!!! Bumped my score from 3 to 5 because of BATMAN!!!

John Wick10

Second time watching. And it's even better this time around. There is nothing in this film that you have not seen before: Just a good ol' revenge flick with a very simple premise. Heck, even the challenges that our protagonist faces mirror those of an RPG like Borderlands, with the boss fights being the toughest and John Wick having to level, in a way, in order to face these challenges. What makes the film 10/10 great is the amazing action sequences. And Keanu Reeves' screen presence. Frankly, I'm tired of films building up their protagonists as firearms masters only to have disappointingly few action sequences involving guns. In this film, you will see some incredible gunplay that is sure to exhilarate and entertain. Great film!

Thoroughly enjoyable action film. Karl Urban is fantastic as Dredd...perfectly cast. The supporting cast is also excellent; I especially enjoyed Lena Headey's performance as the Villainous Ma-Ma. Hope there is a sequel to this eventually.

A fantastic, thought-provoking film with an original story. Not a second in this film is short of thrilling, not to mention the magnificent, operatic score. To top it all off, this film has the aptest and profoundest recitation of "Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas--really gripping! I highly recommend this film.

There are some genuinely funny moments in this motion picture, but they are very sporadic. There are also some very disturbing and disgusting set-pieces here that are not at all funny; they seem like they were taken off the Family Guy chopping block. For a better comedy western [animated], I recommend Rango. Much funnier.

I watched this movie on VOD and I was really amazed, delighted, and thrilled by its brilliance. Although the whole movie happens almost entirely inside a car and consists of a series of phone calls, it is more absorbing than most of this year's blockbusters. Tom Hardy's fantastically reserved acting as well as the voice acting, especially by Andrew Scott (Jim Moriarty, Sherlock) was a revelation. I highly recommend this movie.
