Dredd

Dredd works because it's an action flick with wide appeal that takes risks it doesn't need to - in its delightfully off-putting violence and daring style - and those choices pay off in a singular and exhilarating movie experience. It's savage, beautiful and loads of fun.

The impressively lean script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) is shorn of almost all superfluity beyond a few dud Schwarzeneggeresque kiss-offs, while Anthony Dod Mantle's sensational widescreen cinematography harkens back to the tension-inducing inventiveness of early John Carpenter.

The themes are also dated. There are times when Dredd 3D feels like an escapist companion piece to "The Day After." But there we go again, thinking too much. No sense in ruining such a fine piece of cheap entertainment.

This breathless science-fiction thriller isn't just gory. It practically revels in graphic violence, with several scenes shot in excruciating slow motion.

The stylish sci-fi film makes some eye-popping and unexpected choices that add up to one heck of a fun film.

Olivia Thirlby adds some humanity as the empath. And as the scarred queen of a drug cartel, Lena Headey chews the scenery, and some of her costars, with relish.

The drug that Ma-Ma trafficks in, Slo-Mo, slows its user's brain to 1% of its normal speed. Dredd unfortunately makes you feel as if you, too, have partaken.

Oublié, anéanti, le pathétique film avec Stallone ! le vrai juge Dredd, c’est "Dredd" ! Ce juge Dredd là est le meilleur film d’action depuis Robocop, le tout premier Robocop. Une ambiance similaire, un personnage raide comme la justice, draconien, un homme d’honneur. Dans ce monde un brin madmaxien (aussi), le juge fait le grand ménage par le **** éradique les cafards et autres crevures avec un aplomb qui ravit le spectateur. Et il a la classe. Il est accompagné d’une recrue aux cheveux jaunes, télépathe, qui donne un heureux contrepoids à son impavidité. Un duo particulièrement **** rythme est très soutenu, la réalisation est excellente, pas de cut & move ici, pas de montage pourri à la Bourne. Entre quelques ralentis à 300 im/s et de l’image de synthèse utilisée à très bon escient, c’est un boulot d’artisan, Verhoeven serait fier de ce réalisateur inconnu au bataillon mais très consciencieux. Aucune star à 20 millions de dollars ici, juste des acteurs et actrices au service du film, au service de leur rôle comme Karl Urban et Lena Headey. C’est sobre et très efficace. La musique électro endiablée est également fort réussie et sert l’action avec brio. Bref, je suis sur le cul ! cette licence a (enfin) retrouvé ses lettres de noblesse. Comme quoi tout arrive !

Great action-filled movie but with a sub-par plot and dialogues. Unfortunately not as great as the original.

The setting, pulp, and camp are all operating at full efficiency here, wish the action and story could of kept up a little better but I enjoyed it.

Acting was good, Urban portrayed Dredd well and Olivia was a natural with her Anderson character. What gets on my nerves is the low budget props. The cars were 80's, the mega city was like a normal 20th century metropolis and doesnt even look like America. And the plot came from a recycle bin. Dredd is like a "futuristic" (in quotes because like I mentioned before, props are dredd-full) version of The Raid (2011).

I know why the reason I was the only one at the show last night.. This movie should have never been made. I saw Judge Dredd, with Sly Stallone and like it.. DO NOT Waste your money on this one..
