Beautiful game that is both trance inducing and deceptively challenging. It's fun to play and easy to understand with a unique but never flushed out story backbone about a romeo and juliet love that isn't supposed to be. The ending of each level is a strange change of pace from the journey but has a lesser effect than intended. About 2 hours of main gameplay with extra modes greatly increasing the longevity if needed. A beautiful, fun game with great music and lack of any real story. Reminds me of fl0w or flower in the good and bad ways. If you enjoyed those, you'll enjoy this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game for about 4 hours of constant defeat. It's like if Mario Brothers was a game designed to kill you over and over right before you reach the flag. Don't get me wrong, the game plays smoothly and has a good retro aesthetic but unless you are the kind of person who is fine getting 9/10 of the way through a level only to be spiked up the butt time and time again just to best your friends or earn a bronze trophy...this game probably isn't for you. However, if you played supermeatboy so much you could speedrun it without thinking twice, you will adore this game. I had to quit because I felt like I was going insane, but some people will love it. If you love going insane, pick it up. If not, don't.

The graphics are decidedly next gen. Way better than gta5 which looked amazing, and sure it's sometimes not the e3 graphics from 2012 but other moments are breathtaking. I love the story and environment and I think it's for a more mature audience than gta5. Textures and lighting are crisp and unique and beautifully rendered. The gameplay is fun and the amount of content easily surpasses any other open world came I can think of. The stealth sections are smart and engaging and the minigames are well executed as well. I don't understand what people are saying about the driving either. The acceleration is a bit fast, but if anything it feels more realistic which is never a bad thing. I don't get what people were expecting. This is another blockbuster ubisoft title well deserved of the hype. Pick it up! There's nothing this good on the next gen/current gen market yet.

I was worried going into this game at 20$ for 6 hours, but my fears were unfounded. Yes, it's 6 hours if you rush through without playing the optional test courses or exploring the city or your ability tree in detail, but there's also a new game plus playthrough and I found the main game with all extras to be about 9 hours with 17 in total for a new game plus included. What a beautiful and original game it was too. A suave jazz vibe with great voice acting through my dualshock speaker as the lightbar lit to each word... it was an awesome experience I recommend to any one looking for a change of pace in their gaming landscape for a week or two. The music and voice acting is top notch and production values are sky high. Sleek is the one word I would use to describe the whole package. If you enjoyed Bation you will like this game, but this game is a little deeper and asks more from you in the best ways. What I can say most of all, is that it will stick with you. I only wish there were a real life poll for our forecast.

It's not perfect by any means, but in a drought of rpgs on ps4 I am really enjoying this game. I started on the 2nd hardest difficulty and I think it's made it much more enjoyable and long lasting. It is incredibly difficult on this setting, almost dark souls difficulty. I've died more than I can count but most of the time it's my fault and not the AI or design of the game. I'm on hour 23 right now having done all side quests and am about to face the final boss. The story is cliche but it's enjoyable none the less. I've managed to stay human even though I've made a lot of immoral decisions at other points in the game. It's deeper than people are making it out to be with a mass effect like dialogue/morality system. The character customization is in the middle of the road. Upon creating your character there are only 4 or 5 choices for male/female along with some hairstyles. The gear is fun, allowing you to switch helmuts, gloves, breast-plate, etc. although in the end there are only maybe 7 of each with about 30 total weapon choices. You can collect materials to add both visual and statistical bonuses to them which is fun. The visuals have a cool slightly cell-shaded look that resembles some of borderlands town textures with an eos4 vibe. I will play through this game again on the hardest difficulty and so that I can see the demon side of things, so I will have probably spent 50 hours with the game when it's all said and done. Well worth it in my opinion, especially right now in the current drought of games on ps4.

Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn10
Apr 17, 2014
This is my first mmo game as I have been a console gamer for many years (unless you want to count Defiance, but... let's not.) and I am blown away by the awesomeness of this game. As a long time Final Fantasy fan (VII and **** was my fave) I was really looking forward to this. Expectations destroyed! I played the Beta phase A and I hated it... I couldn't read anything because the text was so tiny I felt like I was going blind trying to read it and I only played it for like 3 hours. I am so glad I gave it another shot! I play alot of games... I mean alot... and part of that reason is I get bored easy so I play a little of this game and a little of that game and move on, but this game has captured me. The text size is fixed and once I got the hang of all of the systems and the new controls (to me, a console gamer) and understood not to run around in circles trying to shoot an arrow (who knew) and finally got some badass gear, I fell in love with this game. It was about hour 5 of gameplay but every hour after has been so freaking sweet. I've generally had a bad attitude about mmos because it seems like you're constantly having to talk to people and interact with non npcs and it just seemed like a bother, but this game lets you play alone most of the time and when you are required to group for a dungeon or raid it does it for you! You get mounts, pets and other awesome customization items. I don't even want to think about how many hours it would take me to level 50 all the jobs... but I'm sure gonna try. This game even made me think about cancelling ps plus and just by the sub for this... and I might... At first I was worried that I wouldn't be able to cancel after my first 30 days ( when I was sure I would be done with it) but they don't even charge you unless you sign up! I bought trials fusion this week too but haven't even touched it. That's saying something. If you like RPGs, customization, playing alone or with friends, awesome graphics, grinding, a good story, switching from weapon to weapon, magic, crafting, xp, final fantasy or if you were scared to get into an mmo... this is the game for you. It is almost perfect. I can't think of any negatives. This game will consume you. Get it.

This is my favorite playstation plus game (and indie game) for my PS4 so far. I grew up with the sega and 32X and played my friends nintendo systems and I am sick of hearing people compare this to games of that generation. If it did come out back then gamers minds would've exploded in awesomeness and loot. This game isn't Contra. This games is closer to Borderlands than Contra. I think people play and can't get over the steep but extremely brief learning curve and judge it like they remember the outdated games of the past where death meant restarting the game completely. Say you do die on the same level 15 times... you collect the components from the enemies you defeat/ treasures you find and using a very simple and intuitive crafting system you can make armor, weapons (including all of the parts and ammo) and knifes to completely destroy that level you were having such a hard time with. You can also buy one time use items such as med packs and C4 to help you through the stage. You can hunt animals and use their meat to cook foods for buffs on missions and with each rank you earn you learn new weapon blueprints, etc. You can also use components to create lasting buffs such as increase speed or weapon damage. The learning curve continues to rise throughout the 25+ hour campaign with expert pacing and the replay value is almost endless. The story is really the only lacking part but I did enjoy it none the less. The game is an awesome retrospect into games of the past like you remember them, but a side by side comparison will look insane. Get this game for free with plus or buy it for 20. Either is worth it.

Finally a true next gen gaming experience. The graphics are beautiful and the frame rate is silky smooth. I even enjoyed the use of the dualshock4 motion control and touchpad uses. This game is full of side missions and fun stuff to keep you busy. I really enjoyed the story and thought it was a nice parallel of our times. Alot of the bad professional reviews claim that they wanted more in next gen than graphics and stuff but no of them give explanations of what more they were looking for? Easily the funnest and best looking game on PS4 right now. It got me excited again for the future of next gen. Seattle is amazingly realized and every little inch of the city has fun sights to see. Do yourself a favor and pick it up, you won't regret it.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes8

The graphical fidelity and line of sight draw distance is probably the best I've seen on the PS4 so far. It feels a little less MGS and a little more Splinter Cell though. We all know the game is short but it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that has looked up this game before purchasing it though. There is a fair amount of time you can spend with this game doing missions on Hard, collecting everything (XOF patches and cassette tapes) and completing specific challenges such as "Spot every enemy in the shortest amount of time" which does add some hours of replay. There is a funny Easter Egg which I won't spoil at the end of one of the side missions if you get an "S" ranking and it is classic Kojima. The thing I missed the most from MGS4 was the active camo, or any camo for that matter. It's just a rubber suit? Hopefully the Phantom Pain will address this and give us more than a cutscene at the beginning and one at the end. The only reason I'm not giving this game a 9 or 10 is not because of the length of the game... I knew it was short before I purchased it, but the price for the length. 30$ is 15$ too much. There are a few noticable clippings in the game such as when you're carrying somebody over your shoulders your arm tends to reach through their body and even though it's an "open world" it is very clear how the devs want you to play through the game... with a stun gun and on your belly. I enjoyed the game and you will to, but just know you're getting 15$ ripped off.

Need for Speed: Rivals7

Beautiful, fun and familiar. I love the world and seamless multiplayer but I never really ran into them on the roads much. I've always loved NSF but I miss the stories of the earlier games. Give me some deeper narrative and make me care more about the driver and world. Not like the run but more like under grounds and the original hot pursuits. The later part of the game grinds if you choose to upgrade your cars rather than buy the newest ones. It's a blast to play but just know its all been done before.

Call of Duty: Ghosts7
Nov 23, 2013
Ghosts is a little disappointing to me. The graphics are clean but fall really short compared to most other ps4 games. The pacing of the campaign crawled more than it ran and it feels like they went through a checklist of previous environments to build it with the exception of the masterfully crafted space sections. The ending did leave me wanting the sequel which is always a good thing. The gunplay is tight as ever and the tweaking of the weapons finally makes every choice equal. The patches feel like a big step down from the customization of black ops but the outfits and helmets are a step in the right direction. It's just a shame they all look similar and there was never a carrot at the end of a string for me to chase. Squads is laughable and makes me wonder what they were thinking. I'd much rather have one character that truly feels like my creation. Don't get me wrong, ill spend countless hours on ghosts but I hope they try harder in the future. The bread is getting stale, at least put some jelly on it for me.

Battlefield 49
Nov 23, 2013
As a long time call of duty gamer and owner of ghosts on ps4, This entry has changed my favorite military shooter choice. There are moments during big matches that occur that no scripted moment could achieve. Imagine putting c4 on a helicopter and taking it to an objective... Jumping out of the helicopter and equipping an rpg as you take out a packed enemy jeep on your way down to a nearby rooftop. The helicopter lands next to an enemy tank and you blow the c4 therefore taking out the tank and nearby building you were on. You fall through the rubble and land behind an enemy sniper as you knife him in the back. Feeling lelke a king among men you turn around just in time to see an enemy jet barreling towards you as it takes you out in a glorious blaze of glory. Stuff like that is rare, but it happens and when it does it reminds me why I'm a gamer. The campaign is short and a little unbelievable but still worth playing for the environments. My only wish was it had some more character customization in multiplayer like uniforms and helmets and whatnot but that's a small complaint for a game that packs so much value.

Killzone: Shadow Fall9
Nov 23, 2013
When I show off what the ps4 can do, I put this in before battlefield or rivals. The campaign is a science fiction dream and I had to focus not to die in combat as I was in awe of the environments. The story is lacking and the enemies aren't varied enough but the gunplay is tight and the owl is a great way to use the touchpad in shooters. The multiplayer is fun and different but any lack of ranking or customization besides unlocks brought down the time I would've spent with it. The atmosphere and feel of the world is what makes it a must buy for me and shows promise of a bright future for ps4.

Knack8
Nov 23, 2013
The triumph of beating some of the levels on the hard difficulty is matched only with the awesome details of the beautiful environments. Knack's footprints leave holes in mud for the water to seep through as you jump over an arrow trap and dodge an aggressive sword attack from a wonderfully animated goblin... Moments like these make the game shine. None of the characters are Pixar quality in their depth, but the moment to moment gameplay is a blast. The only way to play is on hard, but kids or non core gamers should play on easy as this game is fairly difficult to master. Don't listen to the pro reviews, pick up this game. It's a great break in between the shooters.

This would have been my favorite game ever. Shortly after release the game started freezing on me and thousands of other players as you can see in the gearbox forums essentially locking us completely out of the game. With no apology or patch, this is unnaceptable. I paid 60$ for a game I can't play. That's why it gets a zero instead of a 10. I'll never buy another gearbox game due to their lack of fixes and pure greed. Randy Pitchford deletes tweets when they talk about the freeze and ignores the issue. It doesn't matter how good the game is if you can't play it. Shameful.

good grief. What an amazingly awesome and truly epic finale to a series that I've loved since the first. If you play through this game without playing the first 2 first, you're doing yourself a disfavor. You didn't read or watch the return of the king before watching the hobbit, did you? or watch harry potter 20 or whatever the last one was before reading or watching the first 19 or how ever many there were first did you? And play it the rpg way the way it was meant to be played. They fixed everything that was slightly wrong with the first two. So much more weapon and power upgrade capabilities. So much more armor customization. So much more story. XP for looking over a balcony? no. XP for helping disputes? Yes. Is it that much more awesome? yes. Everything is polished to a current gen premium shine. sound is brutal and varied and exciting and the best of the series and the sci-fi genre as a whole. I didn't enjoy the demo all that much and seriously didn't think it could recapture that amazement and discovery the first game did what seems like such a long time ago, but it does so much more. the negative reviews aren't from hard core gamers. period. if you know games, or mass effect, or science fiction, or fun, or life, you can't play this game and give it an honest bad review. that would be like saying the mona lisa has too much paint on it. or the zonda isn't fast enough. or the south pole isn't snowy enough. if you own a system that can play this game, do it. if you don't enjoy this game, you're a krogan.

SSX10
Feb 29, 2012
I haven't been this addicted to a game in a long time. I never thought a snowboarding game could be be better than Amped 3, but man am I glad to be wrong. I didn't care too much for the older ssx games; they just weren't polished enough on the control side of things and didn't have enough customization or replay value. SSX brings all that and so much more. The campaign mode has you traversing trick and race modes on your way to conquer 9 different "deadly descents" which each require you too wear and learn how to use pieces of equipment to survive. I wasn't sure about how I felt about them the first couple of trips down, but now competing to get the best scores or times against not only my friends list, but the whole world is amazing. It adds a new layer of depth to an already complex game. You level up your characters and earn credits through just about everything you do. A level 4 character with good level 4 equipment might score a 4million run and a level 10 character with the best equipment might score an 80million run, so the competition is exciting and rewarding. I prefer this set-up to finding lobbies and competing against a few strangers who might have better stats than you anytime. There are plenty of varieties to the courses and difficulty ranges from letting go of the controller to get down the mountain all the way up to wtf times 11. The music is good but uploading your own tracks doesn't hurt after continuous hours of play. This game has great environmental graphics and character movement is hypnotic to watch with glowing stuff flying all over the screen. Loading times are thankfully very brief and if you do mess up it's likely player fault thanks to excellent tight controls. I'm looking forward to my next session and I can't wait to see the dlc for this game. Pick it up you like snowboarding, tony hawk games, competition games, racing games, easy games, hard games, there's something here for almost everyone. I couldn't give this game more thumbs up if I were someone with alot of thumbs. that sounded better in my head. see you in the sky. oh yeh, geotags are cool too.

I hated the demo, thought it was lame with no focus. Now that I've finished the game, I'm so glad I was so so wrong. If you like the game Black on original xbox and ps2, you'll love this game. It reminds me of what got me into games in the first place. I didn't need some multi-teir story and twists; I just needed some awesome guns, graphics, and plenty of destruction and killing of formidable foes. The graphics are pretty varied with some third world settings and some sci-fi futuristic environments. Character models are good, but repeated in every enemy in a certain area which feels dated. Destruction feels as good as ever with sparks, splinters and fire exploding from everywhere you fire a bullet at. With so much destruction at your fingertips it would've been nice if there were more choices for environmental kills and if every enemy didn't need 100 bullets in them to put down. I do need to say that this is a very hard game on everything but the easy difficulty level and even then it shouldn't be taken lightly. Sound is good, but there are a few times when over syncing and unbalancing became an issue. I'm deeply saddened that this dev team is out of the picture, because a polished sequel could've been truly something spectacular. As it stands, this is a must rent and a definite bargain bin buy. This game is much better than people give it credit for.

Syndicate (2012)10
Feb 21, 2012
Syndicate is a fast-paced, methodical, futuristic shooter with enough depth and brilliant co-op gameplay to break out of the norm and be something really special. More action than story focused, subtle tweaks to the way you approach combat make for some really amazing one-off set piece water cooler moments. There's alot of depth in the co-op that the casual player might not pick up on at first, but the challenges will keep focused players busy for quite a while. The graphics are nice and very similar to the team's previous riddick games but with more variety and bloom effects. The gunplay is familiar but different enough to get you excited to find the next weapon or upgrade your favorites in multiplayer. Great animations and pretty solid physics. Sound is what you'd expect from a futuristic corporation conspiracy kind of game. Story is , well, what it sounds like. I came into syndicate not expecting much and leaving with a desire for more. It's also great that games like this are coming out in months other than just before Christmas. I recommend this game to anyone looking for a comfortable fps and if you liked deus ex, there's a ton to love here.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning9
Feb 10, 2012
KoA is almost in a genre of it's own. It is more of a single player mmorpg than a true rpg, but I love it nonetheless. It's extremely hard to describe the scale of the adventure if you really get into the sidequests and various relic-like looting the game offers. It's in my opinion easily twice as large as Skyrim and as an enormous fan of Skyrim I don't take that saying lightly. Here's what I mean: In my playthrough so far, I've put in 40 hours, completed 3 main quest segments, completed 1 faction/guild storyline, 90 side missions, reached level 33 and I haven't even gotten to explore 1/4 of the world map yet. The combat is simple, fun and beautiful in action. The story is what you'd expect from a new fantasy rpg world with slight variations on elves, trolls, gnomes, faeries, etc. and it's great but only missing the feeling of any real change in the world through choice like you feel in mass effect or other western rpgs. The only thing worrying to me is the supposed 40 level cap. I feel like I could easily put another 100 hours in but I'm worried once I hit the cap, I'll lose interest. That is the only reason I'm not giving this amazing game a perfect 10. Graphics: 10
Gameplay: 10
Sound:10
Length:10
Story:8
Loot:9
Leveling:????
Hopefully we'll get some DLC soon with a raised level cap and new abilities and some armor and weapon loot variations. Summary: I love this game and recommend every fan of fantasy/rpg/action to buy this game. It's nearly perfect and could be pushed over the edge with the much needed DLC.

This game is amazing! I didn't want to like it. All I heard from the directors were, " It isn't an RPG, It isn't an RPG." And the only thing not RPG about it is you don't level up your character directly. You accept quests, level up your armor, level up your guns, level up your equipment ( which may be the best and funnest equipment of any game yet) You usually decide what you do and don't want to quest, and it also has an amazing racing game built into the "not RPG" shooter. If this had the role playing label on the box, I wouldn't disagree. The graphics are over saturated, but still impossible not to marvel over. Like the Red Real movies over Blue Ray, this game is insanely beautiful. The gunplay is tight and responsive, and the wingstick may be the best thing to happen to an FPS since iron sights. Every button is where it should be on the default setting. The AI is unique, smart, and responsive, especially on the higher difficulties. The enemy actually frightened me by sneaking up on me a couple times in the opening "tutorial" levels. As much as I didn't want to like this game, it is a gem. If you like awesome graphics, compelling sound, tight gameplay, shooters, RPGs, Racers, than this game is for you. If you like Mario Cart or Madden, look elsewhere. Thank you Id, for being badass again. I can only hope more devs use Id Tech for their games before we have to buy a new system. The current gen is finally coming into its own, and Rage is that definitive proof.

Dead Island9
Sep 8, 2011
If Condemned married Oblivion and went to a beautiful tropical island for their honeymoon, Dead Island would be the result. And that's a very good thing. The graphics are top notch and the few times I experienced pop up in textures wasn't enough to distract me from the zombie babe about to eat my face off. Most of the main characters have a lame back-story and cut scenes are short and have a huge (press b to skip) in them which take away some of the immersion, but I could care less when a game is this awesome to play. Control wise, everything feels like it should ( I recommend turning on the analog control scheme ) and is smooth and responsive. Weapons are varied and fun, and have just enough RPG like management to keep them interesting and exciting. I jumped quite a few times and also was blown away by the sheer scale and length of this game. It's not borderlands long, but it easily rivals and trumps most other horror/survival games. Clocking in at around 30-50 hours depending on how many side quests and goofing off you do. As a true gamer, this game can't be missed. Dead Island 2 please.
