Pokemon Legends: Arceus3
Apr 23, 2026
I have played many Pokémon games across Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Switch. After more than 12 hours with this game, I dropped it on the final map for the following reasons:
- The open world feels empty, the graphics are poor, and there is very little to interact with.
- Side missions are repetitive and lack variety.
- Main missions consist entirely of going from point A to point B, talking to NPCs, battling, then repeating the same loop.
- Puzzles are extremely dull and uninspired.
- Animations are severely lacking — cutscenes sometimes fade to black and rely on audio alone instead of showing anything on screen.
- Button layout is highly unintuitive. Why is the map buried behind the mission screen? Why does throwing a Poké Ball in combat require switching to the bag and pressing R2? Why do you switch mounts using left/right buttons? Why can't you throw a Poké Ball or release a Pokémon while mounted? Why is there no multi-select when releasing Pokémon — you have to do it one by one manually.
- Bug: when transitioning from water to land while mounted, the mount freezes and cannot move — you have to unmount and remount to fix it.
- Wild Pokémon AI is terrible. Why do they detect you even when you are standing behind a rock in close proximity?
- The story is poor, unoriginal, and often illogical. Summary: Yes, this is Game Freak's first attempt at an open world game — but they failed to execute it properly on almost every front. It feels like a disjointed mess where nothing is done well. I have lost faith in the Legends sub-series. While Sword & Shield was not a great game either, at least it was not this frustrating to play.
