I'm always on the lookout for games that can follow in the footsteps of Fallout 1 and 2. This one comes close in terms of setting and gameplay, but unfortunately, the game lacks soul. It's not bad, technically definitely a big step up from Fallout 2, even if it's still not quite 'up to date'. But I feel something is missing. The story of the world isn't told at all, the characters are bland. There is no voice acting. What bothers me almost the most, however, is the very limited number of quests combined with the high level of difficulty. You don't feel like you can follow your own path, but have to complete the quests in a predetermined order in order to make any meaningful progress. With a little more effort, it could certainly have been a great game, but as it is, it just doesn't captivate me, it rather frustrates me most of the time. I really hope that Underrail 2: Infusion improves on the points mentioned above, then we'll have a big hit on our hands.

Meh, I didn't really find the gameplay as awesome as others described. The game is completely on rails and I just don't enjoy that type of game anymore. You're guided at every step, there's hardly any exploration except for the few rooms with collectible items, but I couldn't care less. They made sure that you find 1-3 bullets and crafting material every 50 meters or so, which just totally breaks the immersion for me.

Visually impressive, great story, memorable characters. The gameplay is fine but it's the weak point of the game, so I subtract 1 point for that. Otherwise it's a fantastic Indiana Jones experience. Please give us more like that.

Despite all the negative comments about the game here, I have to say that it's one of the few games in recent years where the worldbuilding has been done competently. The locations feel alive, the interactions are well presented. Technically it could be better, but overall I'm really positively surprised by the game. I usually uninstall 8 out of 10 games straight away because they don't captivate me. Not so here. I like it.

I don't want to join the others who are picking on the woke elements. They are there, I ignore them. No big deal. But the gameplay is a completely different thing. The game feels like it's on rails. The inventory and item management is like Assassin's Creed: undemanding, uninspired and boring. The same goes for the combat. But what annoys me the most is the technical implementation. The graphics look horrible. This Fortnite style doesn't work at all. I'm playing Alan Wake 2 at the same time, and they're worlds apart, plus: Alan Wake generates significantly less CPU load. I had to limit the FPS in the game because otherwise I had a permanent 100% CPU load with my 7900X, which pushed even my AIO to its limits. And for what? No interesting systems, stupid AI, no programmable NPC combat interaction like in DA:O, nothing. Once again a complete failure, but we are used to that from the gaming industry in the last 10 years.

The immersion in this game is zero. I can't even describe exactly what the problem is because generally the game ticks off a lot of my checkboxes, but the implementation doesn't make it any fun to play. Locations are unnecessarily fragmented and often cause a black loading screen when passing through a door, even though no new area is entered. The connections between locations are confusing. There are too few clear landmarks to identify the area you are in, everything looks kind of the same. The world feels static, the story is told exclusively in dialog. Exploration is rarely rewarded, as there is little to explore beyond the intended story paths. The combat system is fiddly and doesn't feel well-rounded. I had to quit playing after 3 hours because it felt so awkward. Quite a disappointment.

I have mixed feelings about this game. I played the first two parts of Baldur's Gate back in the day, but this game doesn't give me that Baldur's Gate feeling. Maybe it's because of the mediocre story, the poor character introduction or the obsessive adherence to old RPG mechanics. I'm not a DND player, but I am at least a passionate board gamer. Nevertheless, I can't understand why the DND system had to be implemented so precisely. It's a CRPG after all, and I play it because I don't want to roll dice. The inventory is overflowing with useless stuff, 35 longswords, longsword +1 and then maybe a legendary variant with a completely negligible attribute. It feels like it makes no difference at all. The spells are boring, the combat mechanics are uninteresting and tedious, the limited camera perspective is annoying to say the least. I admit, the way spells, environment and weapons can be combined is creative and fun, but that was already in Divinity: Original Sins 2 and it was more fun there because you weren't slowed down by the limitations of the DND system. There are often many ways to solve a situation, but I still feel like I'm on rails. I really have to force myself to keep playing because neither itemization, story nor character development give me any incentive.

Starfield

You know what, I've played all the Bethesda games, with the exception of Fallout 76, but that's another story. I had fun with all of them, and since Starfield has been called a "typical Bethesda game" in other reviews, I gave it a chance. I know that this is not a space exploration game, even though Bethesda portrayed it differently beforehand. Incidentally, it wouldn't even be possible to build such a game with this ancient engine, but let's not go there. Let's look at the RPG core of the game. In principle, we still have the same gameplay loop as in the previous games. This doesn't have to be bad, but it's not particularly good either, since it lacks innovation. Hardly anything has changed here, except perhaps the dialog system. I like that much better now. But now to the actual problems of the **** number one criticism is the damn engine. I had already criticized in Fallout 3 that the constant loading screens when switching between exterior and interior are absolute immersion killers. That was in 2008. Now, 15 years later, Bethesda is developing a game with the same engine that increases the number of different world cells many times over. Leave ship, loading screen. Enter house, loading screen. Leave house, loading screen. Go to east side, loading screen. Go to west side, loading screen. Enter ship, loading screen. Fast travel to the planet around the corner, loading screen. And so on. It's a real barrage of loading screens that significantly disrupt the flow of the game. While in Fallout, Skyrim etc. you could at least move around the open world for the most part, the intervals in which you move around the world have shrunk to something between 30 seconds and 2 minutes in Starfield. This is insanely annoying. Manual navigation in the star map (i.e. not via the mission list) is extremely fiddly and not fun. Hm should I do some exploration? Um... no, let's not bother with **** second point of criticism is (as always) the ridiculously bad inventory and the whole UI. I have no desire to use it. The fact that you have to hold down keys to perform the simplest actions is absolutely insane, and was only implemented to annoy PC users to death. Why can't Bethesda implement a usable UI in any game? And the last point of criticism is the writing. There is absolutely nothing that captivates me about this game. The main quest is boring and uninspired. The side quests are poorly presented. And there is absolutely no immersion at all, since it feels like not a single quest can be completed without having to use fast travel at least once. An average quest, however, requires much more than that.Overall, I can't recommend this game. I had about 15 hours of motivation, after which came the great boredom. Anyone who claims that it gets better after 12 hours must be playing this with friends (haha). It's a game that belongs in a different era. Please stop making games like this. Give the rights to Fallout to someone else and find a new engine to challenge your brain cells and get your a**es out of your comfortable Gamebryo chairs. Maybe that will help you make a great game.

ATOM RPG Trudograd

The game is okay, but nothing more. It simply has too many shortcomings to be considered a successor to Fallout 1/2. Technically, Trudograd is far ahead of the aforementioned titles, but not in terms of gameplay or atmosphere. The Soviet setting seems like a good idea, but is completely destroyed by the imposed and artificial humor. The game tries hard to be funny, but it comes across rather silly instead. I clicked through most of the dialog because it didn't appeal to me and I couldn't care less about the characters. Just like in Fallout, the game consists of a lot of individual, small maps separated by a travel system that triggers random encounters. With today's technical capabilities, something larger could have been built. The flow of the game is completely lost this way, as virtually no quest can be completed without visiting at least two maps. This means that you have to constantly travel back and forth, which quickly becomes annoying due to the increasingly frequent and difficult random encounters. Independent exploration is neither encouraged nor rewarded, and there are hardly any interesting locations. The quests are unbalanced and the combat system feels even clunkier than in Fallout 1. At some point, the game became too tiring for me and I put it down. My recommendation: Go play the Olympus 2207 total conversion mod for Fallout 2 instead if you haven't already.

Very disappointing. Graphics are ok but the engine is poorly optimized. You can clearly see that they tried hard to get raytracing into the game for no apparent reason and forgot about other more important things on the way. Like gameplay for example. Or the promised next-gen open world. As others already pointed out the world is empty and non-responsive. Witcher 3 did way better in that regard. RDR2 is closer to what I would consider next-gen open world. They didn't even try with Cyberpunk 2077. Driving physics ****, especially the motor bikes. GPS is not working properly, changes routes while you're going, switches objectives on the way for no reason, etc. Distance to quests is not shown in the journal, wtf?! Bugs everywhere, NPCs glitching through walls, bodies flying around... One of the funniest things I've ever seen are the traffic lights that switch to green when you're approaching in a car (even when they just switched to red) because implementing logic for stopping and waiting is so difficult, it's actually next-next-gen. And thank you very much for taking the time to implement a f*cking p3nis designer with pubic hair styles and bell end tattoos and what not instead of making the basic game loop work.

This is by far the best game I've ever played in the 38 years I'm on this planet now. The level of detail is amazing and from a technical point of view RDR2 is the new reference for me. Full cloud simulation for example is something that I've rarely seen before and never in this quality. You cannot compare this to something like Assasins Creed Odyssey because it's simply on another level. This is how Open World should be done. I bought it for PS4 and also for PC. The PC version is even better in terms of graphics. I very highly recommend it, this is a milestone in computer gaming and an absolute must-play.

This must be the worst realtime "strategy" game I've ever played. There is no strategy needed to play it. Just select everything and attack. Campaign missions are boring and linear. AI is either non-existent or dumb as f*ck. All enemy actions feel scripted. Their tanks approach and just sit there and shoot, waiting to be destroyed by the player. If you're looking for realistic armor implementation or ballistics, look elsewhere. But the lack of realism is even worse, down to the point where Katyushas (rocket launchers) fire their rockets on a target which is directly in front of them. Are you kidding me? This is not even funny. Multiplayer is a joke, no interesting game modes, no challenging AI behavior, nothing. Do not buy this game, it's not even worth $5 in a sale.

Wasteland 3
7
User Scorenabla
Sep 2, 2020
Wasteland 3 is a good game. It copies Wasteland 2 gameplay mechanics almost 90% and increased the production value significantly. Unfortunately it's not a great game for several reasons. It has some bugs, extraordinary long loading times and a few performance issues (e.g. the Scorpitron fight in the Tellur mine was more of a slideshow, on a 1080TI with Quad Core processor...). These are issues that can be fixed in upcoming updates and I won't subtract score points for them. However, there are a few other things broken (at least in my opinion) which are not easily fixed or changed. First of all the game feels too linear. Free exploration is possible but since the game is heavily focused on combat you cannot simply explore any region you like because most (if not all) sidequests involve combat and thus have a minimum level requirement. Exploration is not rewarded. Loot seems to be partly predefined but generally randomized and the armor/weapons you find are mostly crap and never interesting. Vendors always sell the same stuff, I've never seen them restock with higher-level items, except for the HQ vendor. I find the item system lacking in every sense. The skill system was overhauled to create a steady feel of progression by spamming the player with attribute and skill point allocation on every level-up. I don't like the new system at all. You're constantly assigning points every few minutes which is very annoying, but you don't really notice the changes in combat because of its low granularity so what's the point? On the other hand, having the opportunity to assign skill points every few minutes makes it too easy to progress your character's skills. I never had the problem that e.g. my safe cracking skill was too low because I would just wait for the next combat to give me enough XP for the next level and then I'd assign the required points. That lowers the replayability significantly because you will have seen all of the content in the first run already. Interface is ok, but unfortunately it's not optimized for PC. It still works but it could be better. What I really dislike is the missing filter for the individual weapon types and subtypes. I'm constantly browsing the list trying to find the submachine guns or assault rifles. This should be fixed in a patch! Quest design is good but as I said everything is centered around combat. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever say this but why is there not a single fetch quest? Or an exploration quest without combat? It tries to stay true to its predecessor but a little bit more role-playing would have been appreciated. I don't know if I'm too stupid to understand it but I think there is nothing like a stealth system implemented in this game. There is a stealth perk somewhere in the tree but I'm not sure what it does exactly. Standing within the perception radius of any hostile creature will make them spot you after some given time, no matter what you do. This makes it impossible to get through a crowded area without triggering combat. On the other hand I think the game's simply not designed to work that way which is a real shame because it would have opened up other ways of playing it which was one of the strengths of Fallout 1/2 which some people seem to compare W3 to. In my opinion W3 does not share anything with Fallout except for the general setting. The world map is just a gimmick. It looks good but navigating ****. You can't scroll or zoom, which is extremely counterintuitive. I like the idea with the truck that can be used in combat but then again its usage is limited to exterior areas. All in all it was fun to play but it wasn't really what I expected. I expected either an improvement over Wasteland 2 in terms of gameplay mechanics or a deviation from the original towards a more role-playing centered experience. What we have here is just a Wasteland 2 in a higher production value package with a lot of X-Com mixed in, heavily optimized for todays generation of impatient casual and console gamers.

This is one of the best space strategy games ever made. It's full of content, exploration is fun, graphics look astonishingly good for a Paradox game. I really love playing it and I think Paradox is on the right track making their recent games easier to get into (compared to a Hearts of Iron III). For someone like me who digs really complex games it's maybe a bit too simple regarding strategy and gameplay mechanics, but I think it perfectly fits the scenario. Good work Paradox! You already sold me a copy of the forthcoming Hearts of Iron IV.

People have written enough about all of Fallout 4's good and bad sides so I want to keep it short. Fallout 4 doesn't deserve 10 points nor does it deserve 0 points. It's a mediocre game with decent atmosphere but very little RPG elements. Shooting and graphics seem to be the only two things that have been improved over New Vegas. Everything else is just sub-par. The story is very boring. There's no tension, no surprises. Same is true for all of the quests. Go there, kill that (80%). Go there, fetch that (20%). That's it. Everything seems to be built around the modding and crafting features which are not bad in itself. They would have been a great addition to the game if there was any other content in it worth mentioning. There are just a few basic weapon and armor models plus hundreds of mods for them. But the modding doesn't seem to make much of a difference in practice so I didn't use it much. UI is just ridiculous as always. I don't understand why Bethesda outfits every game with the same unusable UI at release which must be improved by modders in every single iteration over and over again. Also this will be the last game I bought from you unless you move on to a modern engine with decent animations and proper FOV. Don't get me wrong, the game is playable and it is even fun (I finished the main storyline and most of the side quests), but it is nothing new. It feels like a DLC for Fallout 3 with slightly improved graphics. But I can't give more than 6 points. I don't understand the people which give less than 5 points though. If you want to see a game that clearly deserves way less than 5 points go pirate Dragon Age: Inquisition and delete it again after five minutes of gameplay.

This is easily one of the worst RPG games ever made for PC. I just had to write this review so that game developers finally wake up and stop throwing out unplayable **** made for console peasants which isn't even that great on consoles either. I think the most annoying thing in DA:I are the controls. Believe me when I say that the controls are a big steaming pile of CRAP! I don't understand how beta testers on PC could even test the game with these controls unless they used a gamepad. But I don't want no stinking gamepad!! We use mouse and keyboard for a reason and that is because gamepads ****! If I wanted to play with a gamepad I would buy myself a fricking console. I say it one more time: DO NOT FORCE CONSOLE CONTROLS ON PC PLAYERS!!!!! I will never ever buy a game again that is not explicitly designed for PC controls. Actually I had to stop playing the game after the first fight because I couldn't stand it anymore. Controlling your character feels so unnatural it makes you wanna bang your head against the wall. Inventory is a mess. Slightly better than in Fallout 4 but still... it's a list of LISTS!!! Come on, you can do better than that, can't you? And then comes looting stuff. You gotta be kidding me?! What do I need a mouse cursor for when I can click the loot only when standing directly next to it? I have to walk up to the loot by hitting W while pressing the right mouse button and moving the mouse to steer and then I have to stop exactly where the loot is while keeping it in view at the same time so that I can point my mouse cursor at it without keeping the right mouse button pressed and then press the right mouse button to... F*CK YOU!!! I can't say anything about quests and such as I stopped playing after 5 minutes in. But I just don't care. Other people have written enough about how bad quests are. The graphics are ok I think, but the hair looks really really ugly. It's so unbelievably ugly that... uh no, just read the other reviews. There's also enough rant about the hair already. One last thing I'd like to mention are the loading times. This game must have the longest loading times of all games I've come across in the last 25 years. And I played almost every single game that was ever released. You can say bad things about Fallout 4, but it loads A LOT faster. I was so disappointed with Fallout 4 that I thought I could give DA:I a chance. But it turned out that Fallout 4 is a masterpiece compared to this ridiculous attempt at creating a RPG. I'm not even sure if they actually tried to make a RPG. It doesn't have anything in common with DA:O and isn't worth wasting a single minute on it. Dear game developers: Stop making games like this. Just stop. I beg you! Try to make games with spirit, with atmosphere, with controls suited to the platform. Just like you did 10 years ago.

Computers have mouse and keyboard, and they give us a circular menu that I can't even read on a screen resolution of 1600x1200 because the text is so tiny? Not to mention the names of the NPC which are even harder to read. Come on, you can't be serious??!!
