Greg McLeans' "The Darkness" is bland and so predictable and it has the clichés in a horror film, but I had fun with this film despite the problems I had with the script (which McLeans co-wrote the script along with Shayne Armstrong and Shane Krause) at least they made an interesting horror film and made Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell likeable, but their the only people who I actually liked in the movie overall. Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell play a married couple, their on a vacation with their son Michael (David Mazouz) and daughter Michelle (Lucy Fry) in the Grand Canyon. While exploring into the Grand Canyon Mike fells inside the Grand Canyon and finds some weird ancient rocks. Mike takes the rocks with him as they leave the Grand Canyon and takes it home with him. Weird stuff starts to happen with the family. Despite idiotic characters and predictable scares I was still entertained and had fun with the film also Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell's performance were the only things I liked in the movie. 3 out of 4 stars
You have every right to be scared about this movie it's written by Melissa McCarthy and director Ben Falcone the team behind the atrocity "Tammy" but surprisingly "The Boss" is better than Tammy, it's outrageously funny and despite McCarthy playing the same role, she makes it work and it's fun watching her being this foul-mouthed crass narcissist. Melissa McCarthy plays Michelle Darnell a successful businesswomen who gets convicted for insider training. She is forced to move in with her employee (Kirsten Bell) and she tries to revamp her public image by helping a group of young girls in their quest to sell brownies. It's funny, chaotic and it's outrageous. 3 out of 4 stars
Bridget Jones is back! The sequel to the 2001 hit. This sequel lacks the charm that its predecessor had, but Renee Zellweger as always charming and shines as the character, and this film still has a little bit of charm but under the charmingly uncharming direction by Beeban Kidron (Amy Foster and Used People). Based on Helen Fielding's second novel in the series, the three original writers including Ms. Fielding, Richard Curtis, Andrew Davies return to write the screenplay also they got another writer on board Adam Brooks. The story takes places four weeks after the first film Bridget Jones (played once again by the adorable Renèe Zellweger) is still working as a host and is dating Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Bridget is jealous of the time that Mark spends with his co-worker Rebecca (Jacinda Barrett), Bridget thinks Mark is cheating on her, which causes their relationship to go down hill. Despite a vacation meant to smooth things over, ends their relationship. On an assignment in Thailand, she has a dalliance with her ex Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and is temporarily jailed for falsely accused for drug smuggling before Mark rescues her. Look I don't care for the predictability, I loved this movie is it perfect? No it's not perfect but it's a funny charming funny rom-com it's still cheerful and that's what I love about the Bridget Jones series, is it funny? Yes. Despite issues I found in the direction and some in the script. Zellweger saves this film, I still found this movie charming it's a good film with problems. 3.5 out of 4
One of the most cliche'd romantic comedies I've seen, but it's a great film adaptation to the source material but the screenplay written by Helen Fielding (based on her novel she works on the screenplay), Andrew Davies and Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral) is super charming and is spiking wit also is cheerful, the script and Sharon Maguire's direction work perfectly together. Renee Zellweger couldn't be more perfect to play Bridget Jones, she outshines the material. Renee Zellweger plays Bridget Jones, a 32 year old decides it's time she takes control of her life by keeping a diary. She's a heavy-drinking heavy-smoking, who works in publishing, is torn between Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) who is introduced to Bridget in a god-awful sweater. Bridget's mother (Gemma Jones) has left her husband (Jim Broadbent) for a TV huckster. Despite it's cliche's it has a intelligent screenplay and three great performances by Zellweger, Firth and Grant. 5 out of 5 stars
Bee Movie is funny, corny also cute and has a very good message about saving our planet, the star-producer-co-writer comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his team managed to make a fun goregous movie. So Seinfield plays Barry the bee who's fresh out of college finds the prospect of working with honey uninspiring. He flies for the first time and meets a human (Renee Zellweger) who's a florist, Barry is breaking the rule of his species. He learns that humans are stealing honey and eating honey for centuries, so he realizes his true calling is to obtain justice for his kind and sues humanity for theft. Seinfeld and Zellweger have nice chemistry, and I like their performances, Seinfeld is very like able here as Barry the Bee. 3.5 out of 5 stars
This franchise was useless, Insurgent the sequel to Divergent in 2015 was although interesting but the cast didn't try enough. I thought it could be enjoy able, then when the film begins it's a snooze. Allegiant is one of the most boring films of the year, it's interesting and the performances are okay this movie offers nothing except a snooze. It's the most impressive film in the series but at times it's a sci-fi snooze, but it's entertaining as hell. Tris (Shailene Woodley) escapes with Four (Theo James) to journey beyond the wall that encloses Chicago. For the first time they leave the only city and family that they ever known to find a peaceful solution. Once outside, they learn shocking new truths that render old discoveries meaningless. As the battle threatens humanity, Tris and Four quickly decide who trust to survive. 3/5 stars
The script by Nia Vardalos who also stars in this, is very funny and manages to get a few chuckles but personally I thought the humor here is cheap, it's charming not to mention has a big heart also Vardalos has good chemistry with her co-star John Corbett. Nia Vardalos stars also wrote the script, anyway she plays Toula, she's thirty and works at her family's restaurant Dancing Zorba's owned by her two Greek parents Gus (Michael Constantine) and Maria (Lainie Kazan). Her family worries that she won't be married. After she takes a job at her aunt's travel agency she falls in love with Ian Miller (John Corbett) a teacher, who's tall and handsome but not Greek, which makes her dad angry because everyone in the family is married to someone who's Greek but not Toula. 3 out of 5 stars
Eddie Redmayne is in another extraordinary film where he goes deeper than we ever seen him in, he shines along with his co-star Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina). This film has a strong message about loving yourself and how love isn't defined by sexual orientation, gender, it's about the soul and the film explains that all well. The film is set in Copenhagen in the mid 1920's, portrait painter Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) asks her husband Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) who is also a painter, but he's a landscape painter who poses in for Gerda's painting as a favor for Gerda while she's waiting for her model to arrive. He dons silk stockings and matching pumps, and he's embarrassed by it, then it slowly returns to a confusing confrontation with his feelings he repressed since childhood. Dressing for a masquerade ball, the delicate placing of his hands and crossing of his legs literally turns him on. Drawn to a double life as Einar and his shy but alluring "cousin Lili" he conceals dual personality that nearly drives him to suicide. Director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) is a true visionary, he does a beautiful job with making Lucinda Coxin's screenplay into real life. Redmayne and Vikander are the best part of this film they make this movie better they helm the film and they play their characters really well. 5 out of 5 stars
Disney's "Zootopia" is smart and funny but I found this movie cutesy and it feels like we've seen it before, it feels average and mediocre, but despite that Bateman and Goodwin have some great chemistry with one another they save this entire film. The city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis place where various animals live and thrive. Ginnifer Goodwin plays Judy Hopps, she's the first rabbit to join the police force, she learns how tough it is to enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, she jumps to the opportunity to solve a mystery case. Unfortunately, that means working with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a wily fox who's a con-artist makes her job more harder. I think this movie has something to say, it has a strong political message also has things to say about drugs and all sorts of stuff. But I found it too bland. 2.8 out of 4 stars
Tim Burton's film on the worst filmmaker Ed Wood is brilliant as well as Johnny Depp's performance is energetic, charming along with a script that's funny, ambitious and damn smart. Depp couldn't be perfect for the role. This film is a masterpiece, so let's talk about this movie. Johnny Depp plays filmmaker Ed Wood who's known as the worst director, it's set in his best-known period in 50's when he made 'Glenn or Glenda' (1953), Bride of The Monster (1959) it also focuses on his transvestism and friendship with the great yet aging and unemployed star Bella Lugosi (played by Martin Landau). 5 out of 5 stars
"The Perfect Guy" is a guilty-pleasure type of movie it's a predictable film of course but thanks to it's gorgeous cast, this movie couldn't be more entertaining. Michael Ealy's as the villain is captivating, after his work on the television show The Following and Think Like A Man franchise including About Last Night, I think he has a lot more in him, then were used to seeing him in these romantic-comedies. Sanaa Lathan plays Leah Vaughn, a lobbyist, who has a successful career. She has a boyfriend Dave (played by Morris Chestnut), she breaks up with him because she wants to be married and have kids, but he's not ready. She breaks up with him, she's heartbroken until she meets the charming and handsome Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy). Their relationship goes horribly wrong, he's obsessed with her, forcing Leah to turn the tables on the man who was Mr. Right. Lathan's performance was okay, Chestnut was good and the best part of this movie was Ealy. Look I didn't really care for the characters, I felt like the story was silly, but Lathan makes it work. 4 out of 5 stars
What are you expecting watching "Couples Retreat"? It's inevitable, cliched and boring but I kinda had fun watching this movie I find it comforting and relaxing, also the characters are like able the chemistry that the actors have with one another is good. Dave (Vince Vaughn who also wrote the script) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman), Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kirsten Bell) and Joey (Jon Favreau who also wrote the script) and Lucy (Kirstin Davis) including Shane (Faizon Love) and his young girlfriend Trudy (Kali Hawk). The group use to include Shane and Jennifer but their divorced she's gone. Jason and Cynthia's marriage is in trouble, their deciding whether they want to get divorced or not as they explain in their Powerpoint presentation as they explain to their friends. The only reason they wanted their friends to go was because an order to come with them an order to get the "group rate" package, the only one they can afford. So the friends go on the trip, and they learn many things about each other that they didn't know before like Dave and Ronnie think their marriage is "something to work through." Joey and Lucy can't even stand looking at each other, so Joey thinks about cheating on her. Shane and Trudy are having trouble relating to each other to their age difference. What really bugs me about this movie is the script is written by Favreau and Vaughn also Dana Fox, two actors who are funny and talented yet this movie isn't all that funny I don't know what was happening when they were writing that script. But overall I enjoyed this movie despite it's lazy, cliched, but the dialogue that the two comedic star write is humorous and entertaining. 3.5 out of 5 stars
At least Fifty Shades Of Black is better than Haunted House 2 otherwise this is just what you expected this film to be god-awful. Who is this made for? Well if you hate Fifty Shades Of Grey that came out last year, then you might enjoy this, yeah there is no purpose for this film it's just to torture us at this point there is no audience for these types of films (expect idiots). This spoof has clever ideas, and at times it's smart, but overall it's dumb just like it's filmmakers. Marlon Wayans stars/co-writer/co-producer as Christian Black an entrepreneur. Hannah Steele (played by Kali Hawk as the Dakota Johnson role) interviews him for her roommate's school paper. No one enjoys these, Marlon Wayans is a jackass if he thinks we enjoy this crap, these filmmakers are dumb, the only reasons these films exist is because of money so dumb people can pay to see this. But it's at times it's funny and at times they make some clever jokes unlike the "Haunted House" franchise. But overall it gave me a few chuckles, and I did enjoy some of the jokes and scenes. And I did enjoy some of the scene it's spoofing. 3 out of 5 stars
Co-writer director Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat) gives moviegoers the best Christmas gift also the best movie that's probably released during the holidays. Adam Scott and Toni Collete play a married couple, they have two kids. They host her sister Linda (Allison Tolman), gun-loving brother-in-law Howard (David Koechner) and their annoying kids and the complaining Aunt Dorthy (Conchata Ferell) for the Christmas Eve party. The family bashes head creates a lot of tension, which causes Tom and Sarah's son Max (Emjay Anthony "Chef") to tear apart his Christmas letter he wrote to Santa. Which makes the family's holiday a living hell when they have a snow blizzard and Krampus kidnaps Tom and Sarah's daughter Beth (Stefania LaVie Owen) and comes to get the family. I think Michael Dougherty and his screenwriters Todd Casey and Zach Shields are trying to teach us something here that we shouldn't give up our hope on Santa or on Christmas, it's trying to scare us and show us something it tries to teach us a lesson and it doesn't just try to scare people who haven't been good this year, it does a good job and has great messages but I don't think it might delivered. But I think it did what did and I think it'll teach the movie goers something. 4.5 out of 5 stars
Billy Ray's "Secret In Their Eyes" has a predictable twist you see coming, but then there's another twist you don't see coming, look I haven't seen the original film that this is based on but it's very entertaining and good despite it's boring and I almost fell asleep while watching this it's still a solid-crime genre film with three excellent performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman and an entertaining screenplay written and directed by Billy Ray (**** Glass and Breach). In 2002, two detectives Ray (played by Chiwetel Ejifor) and Jess (played by Julia Roberts) are in a private police unit led by the DNA. They rush to a crime scene where a girl is **** and murder. When Ray looks at the dead body he realizes it's actually Jess' daughter Carolyn (Zoe Graham). The team falls apart due to grief. 13 years later, he is still on the case and he has found a lead and convinces DA to open the case. They find clues and is still unknown, and the secrets in the past unravel the chilling truth. Meanwhile Jess still griefs, and decides to take it into her own hands to find the killer. 4.3 out of 5 stars
I knew this was predictable for the first few minutes of this film that's how predictable and awful this rom-com is. Dana Fox's screenplay is formulaic and not all that funny but the performances are decent, and the chemistry that Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney have with one another are appreciable. So let's describe the plot and end this review as soon as possible. Debra Messing plays Kat Ellis, she returns to parents London home for her sister's (Amy Adams) wedding. Kat's sister Amy is marrying Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield), who was Kat's ex-fiance. So she plans to get him back by hiring a male-escort (Dermot Mulroney). This story is stupid, it's predictable and it's basically the same movie. I blame the screenplay, I think the chemistry and acting was fine also the direction it's just the script was terrible. 1.5 out of 5 stars
The script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy has a bunch of western cliche's, it's predictable and this comedy gets one laugh so sad, but this film was sort of interesting. But the other hand I am glad I'm on the couch. Adam Sandler is Tommy, he was raised by Indians he is approached by his long lost father Frank Stockburn (Nick Nolte) who tells him that he needs 50, 000 or he'll get killed by his own gang. Tommy goes on a journey to find his 5 brothers (Rob Schneider, Taylor Lautner, Jorge Garcia, Terry Crews and Luke Wilson). This film is just painful, these talented people (expect Sandler) are just stuck in a lazy Adam Sandler film. But I found some moments. 2.5 out 5 stars
Writer-director Jon Favreau's "Chef" is a delightful film with great characters, heartwarming not to mention has a heart and a soul, forgot to mention is a piece of art. It's exquisite and after done watching the film it's if you haven't ate some food this will make you starved to death. Plot: Jon Favreau writes, directs and stars as Carl Casper, an acclaimed chef with a family life as decaying as his artistic freedom. Those frustrations boil over into a raucous viral-videoed public confrontation against a food critic (Oliver Platt) who panned his cooking that his boss Riva (Dustin Hoffman) ordered him to make against his own extincts. His career now ruined, his ex-wife Inez (Sofia Vergara) offers an unorthodox solution in Miami: refit an old food truck. Now him and his son Percy (Emjay Anthony) and old colleague Martin (John Leguizamo) take a working trip across America. Favreau does an amazing job in front and behind the camera, what's also spectacular is the supporting cast not to mention the best child acting performance from Emjay Anthony. Leguizamo is actually funny also does a good performance. 4 out of 5 stars
Bill Murray's performance in "Rock The Kasbah" is redeeming, look it's not perfect and doesn't need him or a cast this great, but a star like Murray makes this 1 hour and 40 minute film interesting, despite it's boring and I barely give a crap about the characters. While visiting Kabul Afghanistan Richie Lanz (Bill Murray) a washed up music manager, who just lost his client Ronnie (Zooey Deschanel). He finds luck when he discovers a Pashtun teenager Salima Khan (Leem Hubany) singing under a cave, her dreams are becoming the first female to complete on the television show "Afghan Star." With help from a savvy hooker (Kate Hudson), two war profiteers and a trigger-happy mercenary (Bruce Willis). Richie embarks on a mission to make sure his new protegee gets discovered. There are a few okay performances in this messy unwell made **** this film is wild, and Murray makes this film interesting. 3 out of 5
Is it perfect? No is it a cinematic masterpiece? No, but I love this film because it's self aware of it's absurdity and screenwriters Hans Bauer, Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. and director Luis Llosa point that out very nicely. What I also love about the film is Ice Cube's over the top performance but it's stirring and SPOILER ALERT! Your gonna enjoy this film more when your about to see Cube killing a snake , Jennifer Lopez's performance was okay, this film isn't well made yes it is mediocre but the snake effects are laughable but Llosa does a bland job but good at the same time making this film cheesy but enjoyable at the same time. Jon Voight (who looks like Christopher Walken) does a creepy but good job as the snake expert/villain. Jennifer Lopez plays Terri Flores a documentary filmmaker her and crew go deep into the Amazon Jungle to shoot this documentary about the People of The Mist-- a legendary lost Amazon tribe. Terri is directing the documentary. Ice Cube plays Danny, her cinematographer. Eric Holtz is Dr. Steven Cale a scientist. The members include Johnathan Hyde as the British narrator, Owen Wilson plays the sound man, Vincent Castellanos as the sinister pilot, and Kari Wuhrer as the production assistant. They pick a guy called Paul Sarone (John Voight) from a sinking boat. He offers to help in Terri and her crew to search for the Amazon tribe Paul, but he's actually a snake hunter looking for the big legendary anaconda snake that's a fortune. Since "Anaconda" is a action-adventure film, you can find some hilarious moments at this film, but overall cheesy fun B-movie. 4.5 out of 5 stars
Oh great we get to see Kevin Hart be annoying and unfunny again in this Ride Along franchise [sarcasm]! I didn't think the first Ride Along was funny at all, yes it gave me a few laughs but I find Kevin Hart annoying and unfunny but Ice Cube saved the mediocre action buddy-cop movie. But now we have a sequel just what this stupid mediocre action-comedy franchise needs. Let me tell you that this sequel is not good at all, the gags are unfunny (but some do work). Ben Barber (once again played by Kevin Hart) a former high school security guard who is a month out of the police academy and a week away from marrying James' sister (Tika Sumpter). He wants to be a detective like James (played again by Ice Cube), his future brother-in-law, James reluctantly takes Ben to Miami to follow up on a lead that's connected to a drug ring. The case brings them to a homicide detective (Olivia Munn) and a computer hacker (Ken Jeong) who reveals evidence that implicates a respected businessman. It's up to James and Ben to prove that charismatic executive Antonio Pope (Benjamin Bratt) is actually a violent crime lord who rules southern Florida's drug trade. Munn and Jeong shouldn't be in this movie because both of them are talented, and they can't save this film either. Director Tim Story directs once again, and the direction is once again terrible. Bratt as the villain is okay, he did an okay job. Jeong isn't funny here, he deserves better material. If your a fan of the first one, go see it! But for the rest stay away, this film isn't worth the ride. Let's not hope their not making another one of these movies. 2 out of 5
What I laughed at In Dirty Grandpa was the wackiness ensues in this dumb entertaining fantasy, it's not perfect and through out it's a painful, offensive and uncomfortable dirty film that a times it is a torturous to even watch, also it's painfully predictable. Robert De-Niro makes another career-ruining decision, but Zac Efron is really good at these R-rated comedies (even if there crappy like Awkward Moment and this one), but it's outrageously funny with DeNiro's insolent one-liners, Efron attempts the straight man in a comedy, we have ourselves a strange outrageously funny comedy. Zac Efron plays Jason, he's a lawyer who ditched his dreams of photography, to take a job at his father's (Dermot Mulroney) law firm, who's about to marry his **** shrew fiance (Julianne Hough). Robert DeNiro plays Grandpa ****, after his wife's funeral Jason agrees to take **** to his home in Florida. They pare up in Daytona Beach, all Grandpa **** wants to do is have sex with women, because his dying wife's wish was he can get back out there again. Jason bumps into Shadia (Zoey Deutch) who's a photographer who used to be Jason's former photography class partner, **** meets Lenore (played by Audrey Plaza) who's a college student also slut who is obsessed with having sex with ol' grandpa. And their gay best friend Bradley (Jeffery Bower-Chapman) whom **** seems to make fun of him because of his sexuality, are all heading to Daytona Beach, Florida, for spring break. DeNiro and Efron have good chemistry also DeNiro and Plaza have some funny decent chemistry as well, despite a crappy script by John M. Phillips also a crazy direction by director Dan Mazer, I laughed. 3 out of 5 stars
This film adaptation feels like "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief" the Twilight Saga also "The Hunger Games" "The Host" "Beautiful Creatures" so it's just a crappy rip off of other successful YA film adaptations, which makes this film successful which this will start a teen franchise. I wanted to have fun time watching this film, I was expecting a fun guilty pleasure movie, but this film **** the fun out like a vampire **** out the blood out of a human. So it misses it the opportunities, instead it feels like a familiarity of things we have seen before in successful and well-made films. In New York City, we meet an ordinary teenage girl Clary Fray (Lilly Collins) learns she is descended from a line of Shadow Hunters half angel warriors who protect humanity from evil forces. After her mother (Lena Headey) disappears, Clary joins forces with a group of Shadow Hunters and enters the Downworld, an alternate realm filled with demons, vampires and a host of other creatures. Clary and her companions must find and protect an ancient cup that holds the key to her mother's future. Collins's performance was annoying, whiny and just not good at all so is her love interest in the film Jamie Campbell Bower. At least the film didn't bore me to death it actually was interesting. I did not read the book series by Cassandra Clare, but I'm judging this as a film there's a TV show based on Clare's novels just hope it's not bad like this film. 1. 5 out of 5 stars.
Despite a cliched storyline a string of cliches, I actually liked this film pretty much for me I was emotionally involved in this story no matter how weak and formulaic the script is by Juliette Towhidi, and first-time director Christian Ditter's direction is charming also the chemistry between it's two stars Lily Colins (Abduction) and Sam Claflin (Hunger Games: Catching Fire). So let me explain this predictable plot, so Alex (Claflin) and Rosie (Collins) were best friends since they were five years old, Alex tells Rosie his weird twisted dreams. They couldn't be more perfect for one another or could they? You have to be an idiot if you don't know the answer. Love is their worst enemy, so is making good choices they have when their teenagers they have feelings for one another but they won't admit it. At their prom night, Alex and Rosie have a passionate kiss, Rosie is too drunk to remember that kiss, but at the same time she loses her virginity to her classmate Greg (Christian Cooke) resulting in an unexpected pregnancy. Such new coincides with Alex's move to Boston medicine. As Alex and Rosie go in different paths, an inevitably romance is on the rocks. I found the lead characters dumb, the two lead characters have an annoying chemistry with one another, which the results are an unwell made rom-com with amazing production standpoint and appealing chemistry with Lilly Collins and Sam Claflin, but with a better script. But I still enjoyed it and somewhere I have strange connections with it. 3 out of 5 stars
"Focus" is unpredictable with a few twist and turns you barely see coming, the writing-directing team behind "Crazy, Stupid, Love" "I Love You Phillip Morris" and "Bad Santa" manages to make a exciting, funny thriller with two stars that have sensual chemistry in this "old school film." After starring in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street, newcomer Margot Robbie continues her streak of brilliance and indeed does she make a great performance so does her co-star Will Smith who have dynamite chemistry with one another. Will Smith plays Nicky a con-artist (just like in Hitch) takes Jess (the stunning Margot Robbie) under his wing, shows her the tricks of the trade, they both have a love interest with one another, when Jess gets uncomfortably close, Nicky ends their relationship. Three years later, Nicky is in Buenos Aires, working on a dangerous scheme when Jess unexpectedly shows up she is now a skilled professional femme fatal, making Nick's plans messed up. She throws Nicky for a loop of time at a time when he cannot afford to be off his game. Yes this film has it's problems lacking a sharp-script, but Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's script is filled with intriguing set-pieces, every single character is so appealing. One of the best funniest things in the film is Adrian Martinez who play Nicky's friend also associate who has some funny one liners. Not to mention Gerald McRaney is fantastic also is equally good. It's one of the best films that is both a rom-com/thriller. 4.5 out of 5 stars
The film makes fun of rom-com cliche's yet the film is an entire cliche yeah I am self aware of that their gonna be together and I know how silly the formula is tiresome, but Timberlake and Kunis's chemistry works so does the R-rated humor. Jamie (played by Mila Kunis) is a executive recruiter, who entices Dylan (Justin Timberlake) an art director from Los Angeles, to take a job at the New York office at GQ magazine. They both are tired of dating and don't want to date, they are both intimacy issues, so when they find out what they have in common so they become fast friends. Dylan and Jamie decide to quit for true love and focus on having fun, so they become friends with benefits (title). Co-writer director Will Gluck (Easy A) makes Timberlake and Kunis sexy also makes the formulaic hot body romantic comedy fun to watch. At times watching this film made me moan, it was so painfully predictable. But hey I enjoyed it. 3 out of 5 stars
Michael Dowse's film uses the romance formula pretty well, the script by Elan Mastai (Alone In The Dark) isn't formulaic but it's very painfully predictable and eye-rolling but the script does do is make this a funny sweet rom-com with normal human behavior, it's real stars are Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan who have charming and witty chemistry and save this rom-com from being a horribly made one. Daniel Radcliffe plays Wallace who dropped out of med school and isn't good with relationships, til he meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan), at a party where she sees him playing with magnets on a refrigerator. So after walking with Chantry at her adobe, she lets Wallace know that she has a boyfriend (Rafe Spall) why don't be friends? Wallace doesn't like the idea. Then Chantry convinces him to be friends with her, and then he signs on for the friendship thing it's an assuming tale of 'When Harry Met Sally'. Maybe an average rom-com is OK (if it's made well) and "What If" is made well smart film, the two stars have a sparkling chemistry with one and another. 4.00 out of 5 stars
Not all that funny a few laughs but co-writer director Sean Anders (Horrible Bosses 2) manages to put charm and wackiness into this comedy and makes the collaboration with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg priceless, where the chemistry with each other is nice. The problem I had with this film is it's a mediocre comedy with bland performances, but it's a good comedy. Will Ferrell plays Brad Taggart a radio executive, who has a big heart and wants to be the best step-father ever to his wife's (Linda Cardellini) two children (Scarlett Estevez and Owen Vaccaro). When her bad boy ex-husband Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) comes back to town, Brad feels insecure about him being there, Dusty wants to get back together with Sarah, so him and Brad have a competition on who wins the family. Dusty demonstrates his flair for athletics, home repair and bad boy charisma. So Brad finds himself in a tough situation to battle one-up his rival and win his family. Despite wasting talented comedy stars Will Ferrell and Mark Whalberg, they make bland performances, but they make this movie rock, still an enjoyable film despite it's a mediocre PG-13 comedy. 3 out 5 stars
Boyle's film is gripping and Aaron Sorkin's screenplay is flourishing, not to mention the film's score by Daniel Pemberton has tension. The talented Michael Fassbender owns the rule of Steve Jobs also makes a beyond brilliant performance so does Kate Winzlet, Jeff Daniels and Seth Rogen. The film takes place in three acts, Jobs is back stage preparing for three launch products: the Macintosh in 1984, the Next Computer in 1988, and the iMac in 1998, and in the iMac in 1998, after Jobs had been fired from Apple and then brought back in utter vindication to the company he co founded. People who make a dent in the universe usually do serious damage to their relationships. Through the years, Jobs battles his ex-girlfriend (Katherine Waterston) denying the paternity test of their daughter Lisa, with his longtime partner Steve Wozniak (Seth Rogen) his programmer (Michael Stuhlbarg), and with the professional manager he brought in to run the company, Pepsi's John Sculley (Jeff Daniels). He agonizes over the double rejection of being put into adoption and then being brought back by the first people who tried to adopt him. Sorkin's screenplay is smart and Boyle has exhilarating style. It's one of the best films of the year including one of the best performances so far. Grade A+
"Miss You Already" is wonderfully made film from director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Thirteen) I didn't care what I was going in for because without Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette's sparkling chemistry this film wouldn't work at all. Drew Barrymore and Toni Collete play best friends since childhood, they oppose life challenges. Milly (Collete) a mother of two, who's happy until her breast cancer diagnosis. American-born, British raised Jess (Barrymore) and her husband (Paddy Considine) have been dealing with infertility issues. The film is definitely a chick flick but director Catherine Hardwicke surprisingly directs this very properly and makes the script by Morwenna Banks be shiny also let Barrymore and Collette shine. This film is directed wonderfully despite the director's other films, two stunning performances by our two leads Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette. Grade A-
This isn't writer-director David O. Russell's best film, but this is not terrible despite it's bland, but Russell's style is vigorous and Jennifer Lawrence's performance is peppy, together their craftsmanship is splendiferous. Originally Annie Mumolo ("Bridesmaids") wrote the screenplay in 2013, so Russell signed on to direct also he selected to write the script, he didn't re-write the script, he wrote his own screenplay and Mumolo got the story credit and produced the film, for Russell got the soul screenwriting credit. Here's a fact for ya!: Kirsten Wiig almost starred in the film as "Joy" but Lawrence took her place. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Joy Mangano she is the only sensible person in the family, so she's been running around the household most of her life. Things are now complicated, her father Rudy (Robert De Niro) moves backs in to her house after his second marriage has failed, her mom Terry (Virginia Madsen) who is obsessed over soap-operas and watches TV non stop. Joy's ex husband Tony (Edgar Ramirez) lives in the basement pursuing his favorite dream about being a musician, Joy's sister (Dascha Polanco) who undermines everything she does. Joy's grandma Mimi (Diane Ladd) who's the only one who has confidence in her. Joy has an inspiration for a mop getting it on the market, so she captures the attention of Neil (Bradley Cooper), who runs a brand shopping network called QVC. Tony and her childhood friend Peggy (Elizabeth Rohm) believe in her. Dad's new girlfriend (Isabella Rossellini) invents in her mop, no one thinks she'll achieve any success. Lawrence is wonderful not only she has the star-making is great but so do the chemistry that she, Cooper, De Niro and O.Russell have together, this is the "Silver-Lining Playbook" team's third collaboration together, they all love each other on set you could also tell by Lawrence saying about director David O.Russell "I want us to be buried next to each other, I really do." O.Russell's script is bland, but I am wowed by Russell's style also Linus Sandgren's cinematography not to mention Lawrence's star-making and charisma. I also thought that the film shouldn't win best picture, but it's really a good film. Grade A
I appreciate what Etan Cohen's Get Hard has to do and has to offer, I loved Get Hard! It's not the best R-rated comedy but I loved that it's roars it's R rating, and is laugh out loud funny at times, and the chemistry that Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart is easy going. James King (Will Ferrell) is a rich and is a financial analyst he has a huge mansion in Bel Air, lives with a soon to be married beautiful fiancé Allissa (Allison Brie) and is promoted by Allissa's father Martin (Craig T. Nelson). Kevin Hart plays Darnell he is a hardworking car wash operator, lives in Crenshaw with his supporting wife Rita (Edwina Findley ****) also smart daughter Makalya (Ariana Neal). Darnell wants to get Makayla and Rita out of the neighborhood and school hoping his daughter will go to another school. James is convicted and fraud sentenced to 10 years in San Quetitin. So he wants Darnell, the guy who washes his car, to help him survive in prison Darnell didn't go to prison, James just thinks he did because of his skin color. James is flat out racist, I honestly didn't care if he goes to prison or not that's how unlikeable he is. The cheap script by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder), Ian Roberts (Martin & Orloff) and Jay Martal gives us a few laughs here and there but honestly they know better than this mediocrity so does Ferrell and Hart but they make this mediocrity funny at times. The talented Allison Brie and Craig T. Nelson are miss cast they put nothing good here to the table playing charactures. 3.0/4 stars
"Ride Along" manages to get a few laughs from me, but the main character played by the wild eccentric talented comic Kevin Hart is so annoying, yes I know he's supposed to be that way but it's so annoying and painful watching him for one-hour and forty minutes. Kevin Hart plays Ben Barber a security guard, who has tried to convince James (Ice Cube) that he is worthy of marrying James' sister Angela (Tika Sumpter). Ben is invited to the police academy, James decides to test his mettle by inviting him along on the shift designed to scare the trainee. Director Tim Story (Barber Shop, Think Like A Man and Fantastic Four) provides Hart and Cube some funny comedic landscape and Story does succeed by making it making it funny, but overall Hart and Cube would do better if they had a different director and had a better director instead Hart and Cube are trying to shine and make the script work also outshine the bad direction by Story. Laurence Fishbourne is good as the villain, also John Leguizamo is miss-cast.
Ricki and The Flash is dark, touching and realistic, the film's plot is predictable but writer Diablo Cody makes it unique and outshine it's predictable premise. Even though Meryl Streep isn't in an Oscar-winning film, even though in the past she has been in a lot of successful films, it's alright and she is wondrous. Streep plays Ricki, she has been in a roller coaster, a one-time wife also mother of two, she left her family behind to do the thing she loves the most Rock n' roll **** in California. Now the singer and guitarist must come home in Indiana to reconnect with her ex-husband (Kevin Kline) help her trouble suicidal daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer) because her husband Max (Gabriel Ebert) left her. Also reconnect with her two sons Joshua (Sebastian Stan) who is engaged and younger son Adam. Rick Springfield plays Rick's boyfriend and he is totally an undeveloped character and wasted a talented person, also Audra McDonald's character has no developed at all. Diablo Cody and director Jonathan Demme (Silence Of The Lambs) make this a unique and interesting also thought-provoking, without these two talented people this entire film would have been a cliche'd terribly made mess. Demme's musical numbers are amazing also has wonderful storytelling and him and Cody share a great package. 3/4
Home Sweet Hell is dark the script written by Carlo Allen (The Cable Guy) Ted Elrick (writer of the "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" episodes) Tom Lavagino, they are woman haters, this film hates woman and everyone in general. This movie is more mean spirited than "Bachelorette". Katherine Heigl really must wanted a pay check, because something feels off in her performance so does Patrick Wilson. I'm not going to discuss the plot because this movie is one of the most terrible films of the year. Grade D-
It's not an Oscar winner, the film does what it wants to do entertain the older generation I can appreciate that. Academy Award-winner Robert Redford plays Author Bill Bryson he wants to hike the Appalachian Trail "You are not doing this alone!" Says his wife Katherine (Emma Thompson), so he calls everyone he knows to hike with him and they all say no. He gets the call from his high school friend Stephen Katz (Nick Nolte, it was supposed to be Paul Newman originally but Nolte steals the show) to join him on the 2,200 trail. Along the trail they meet interesting people they meet Mary Ellen (Kristen Shaal) an annoying not very wise we'll put it quite loony, whom Bryson and Katz ditch so they won't have to deal with her for their sake. Bryson meets a beautiful hotel manager played decently by Mary Steenburgen. Katz meets an overweight but beautiful woman (in Katz's mind) at a washing dryer store he tries to have sex with her until her overweight husband in a red pick up truck comes and gets him. Screenwriters Bill Holderman and Rick Kerb don't care about the fans of the source material, they just think we'll love it anyways and we just have to accept the mistakes. First of all, The real Bill Bryson hiked the trail when he was in his 40's. His real wife's name is not Catherine it's Cynthia. Reford is too old (no offense). Despite all of that its a good adaptation. Director Ken Kwapis (He's Just Not That Into You) captures breathetaking scenery. It has the soul of Bryson's memoir, it has the laugh out loud humor and Reford has his charisma and Nolte gives us plenty of laughs playing an old beaten down man. If your a fan of the book like me, you'll enjoy it and have some complaints. It's not for the old generation it tries to have a spot in the Labor Day special and it succeeds. Grade B+
Let's get this thought out I haven't seen the remake starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. This remake is filled with **** dialogue and lousy performances, but director/cinematographer Ericson Core (Fast & The Furious) does a stunning job making the film look breathe taking. The script by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall remake and Salt) is silly, you can't take seriously and is laughable. Luke Bracey ("The Best Of Me") takes the role of Johnny Utah, SPOILER ALERT!: his friend Jeff (Max Theriot) dies after performing a stunt at a steep ridge peak line. Seven years later, Utah joins the FBI, doesn't want to be a extreme sports athlete anymore. So he infiltrates with a team of extreme sports athletes led by the leader Bhodi (Edgar Ramirez Deliver Us From Evil). These athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes. Utah is in deep undercover, his life is in danger, he starts to prove they are architects with a string of crimes. Core is great when it comes to filming big wave surfing, wing suit flying, sheer face snow boarding, free break rock climbing, high speed motorcycle scenes but with storytelling is the weakest and laziest element. Bracey is just awful and totally miss-cast, even if you cast some other actor it'll still be awful, but if you seen his work in Nicholas Sparks' "The Best Of Me" you'll know what I'm talking about. Ramirez is good as the villain role and has charisma and despite what he has to deal with. These actors are trying but the direction is terrible and the script is mediocre and doesn't give the actors any purpose. This film isn't campy enough, it takes itself way too seriously. The film is so boring more boring than Dracula Untold. I tried staying awake when I watch this film, how could a thriller be so boring? You don't care about the characters at all, the quality is okay. Good news is you will forget it expect die hard fans of the original film. You could tell in the stunt scenes that none of these actors are performing them. Grade C
Spoof serial killers Friedberg and Seltzer tackle a stupid mediocre teenage girl-loving vampire franchise, yeah it's stupid and of the dumbest films ever made, but the Twilight saga is stupid and writer/directors Friedberg and Seltzer are roasting Twilght's melodrama also roasting the whole glittery sexy vampire werewolf image. Newcomer Jenna Proske does a great impression of Kristen Stewart spoofs Kristen Stewart's stubbornness over dramatics with comedy. Matt Lanter (Disaster Movie) does a terribly good job as Edward and spoofing on Robert Pattinson's too serious performance. The great comedian Ken Jeong makes the worst performance in his career. Jenna Proske plays Becca (a replacement name for Bella) an anger-ridden teen who is torn between the vampire Edward (Matt Lanter) and a werewolf (Chris Riggi). Even Twilight is better than this comedic mess, but we needed a film to make fun of Twilight so we got one. This film **** just like the title. I feel terrible for saying this but this the only Friedberg Seltzer movie that made me chuckle thats saying something. 2/5 stars
Friedberg and Seltzer take on the warrior action genre and basically gives us a dumb spoof with a few laughs but that's just it. This film looks like it was made by rock hard teen fans of the "300" film they once again tackle a popular franchise and make fun of it because they are jealous because they can't make good films. Xerxes (Ken Davaitan) the evil god king of Persia, sends his massive army to Sparta King Leonidas (Sean Maguire as Gerard Butler) rise up and defend for their homeland. There a few jokes about Britney Spears shaving her head, Paris Hilton's arrest, but it could be more funnier if Friedberg and Seltzer were trying. Maguire does a good mediocre impression of Gerard Butler, Carmen Electra the model who also was Date Movie, is making a career of Friedberg and Seltzer's spoofs. This is one of the worst films ever, but I didn't hate it as much as Date Movie or Disaster movie or Epic Movie, yes it's stupid but lets make tear these films apart. 2/4 stars
I'm so tired and bored trashing on spoof serial killers Friedberg and Seltzer, because they made so many god-awful parodies, apparently they don't have the IQ of 10 because they keep making unfunny terribly made spoofs just to torture us smart people. These two filmmakers don't even have an audience (well expect half witted people). The only reason why I am giving this a low score is just because it was at least not boring, it had a few funny moments. Four troubled adult orphans (Kal Penn, Adam Campbell who also starred in Date Movie, Faune Chambers and Jayma Mays) from four separate movies are in this spoof blockbuster, each of them get a golden ticket from the Wily Wonka Factory, their trip doesn't go as well as planned so their kidnapped. Lucy (Mays) discovers a closet that has a mythic realm called Narnia. So the four orphans enter this realm which they must escape, a which called "White **** is hunting for them. The cast is talented they have been in good films but they must been there for the pay checks. Crispin Glover who was great in Back In The Future, this film is the worst in his career. Grade D-
This film isn't quite not that bad (yes the script by Katherine Fugate, Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein is formulaic the cast is waiting in line for their paychecks),but it has a idealized look at love, and the message is dopey but you appreciate it. It's Valentine's day! In Las Angeles and there is a bunch of love stories here a babysitter (Emma Roberts) tries to lose her virginity to a guy who she really likes, while her grandparents (Hector Elizondo and Shirley MacLaine) are struggling with their marriage. The grandparents grandson Edison (Bryce Robinson) wants to buy flowers for his special valentine. A sports reporter (Jamie Fox) gets to cover the Valentine's day story. A football star (Eric Dane) tries to contemplates his future. A female military captain (Julia Roberts nice seeing her back in a Gary Marshall movie) befriends a fellow passenger (Bradley Cooper). And there's a special "I hate Valentine's Day" party. Country singer Taylor Swift shows us her comedic talents, which I thought wasn't funny, and not a good actress. There are a lot of twist and turns here in the big finale ones you did not expect or thought it more clearly. Also nothing is funny in this movie expect SPOILER ALERT! When Garner beats the living hell of a pinata. A few good performances and a few dumb stories here. 3/4 stars
Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn star in this unfunny Hollywood rom-com, they try to make this work but they can't because the script is flat, desperately unfunny, lame, obscene lazy rom-com. An unmarried couple Brad (Vince Vaughn) and Kate (Reese Witherspoon plan a Christmas vacation at Fiji, because they don't want to spend the holidays with their crazy families so they are forced to spend their Christmas with their families at once. We don't get any character development, don't know about the characters there just there, don't know anything about their jobs or them as a character. But it's charming. Vaughn tries too hard to be funny, he can be funny but with a clever script this one ain't it, Witherspoon in this film is **** shrew. 2.75/4 stars
This film is not awful or it's so awful rip your eyes type of film, it's a disappointment and just not funny as it wants to be. What shocking is it is co-written by Melissa McCarthy who was in two funny comedies "Bridesmaid" and "The Heat," clearly she has comic smarts and talented, but her and her husband Ben Falcone wrote the script telling us that even funny people sometimes can't be funny. It's not funny, but it's heartwarming at times that's only credit I'm going to give this film. Melissa McCarthy is Tammy (the film's title) she is down on her luck, she is fired from her job from a burger-joint, her husband cheated on her, so she leaves and goes on a trip with her alcoholic grandmother (Susan Sarandon). Falcone is some good films such as "Bridesmaids" or "Enough Said" but as a director is it just lazy. 2/4 stars
This isn't a chick flick, it is about self-discovery, even though that Roberts (which is an odd casting chose) who looks nothing the real Elizabeth Gilbert, Roberts performance is incandescent and does a great job as the character. Co-writer director Ryan Murphy (Running With Scissors) makes this film adaptation artsy and bright also makes the food look like ecstasy, Murphy and his screenwriter Jennifer Salt (Tempo) make this spiritual, relaxed. Writer Elizabeth Gilbert (played Julia Roberts) has reached a life crisis, without her husband Steven (Billy Grudup) realizing it they arrived in different and diverging places in their lives, Liz wants out of their marriage. While Liz and Steven are going their divorce papers, she meets an actor David Piccolo (James Franco) who meet while he's performing a stage play. After meeting him, her biggest problem she realizes is herself, earlier when a Balinese medicine man Ketut (Hadi Subiyanto who is amazing) gave her foretellings. So she maps out her journey. So Liz goes on an adventure to self-discovery first it's Italy where she she learns how to love food again the way she use to love it, then India to learn how to meditate and get some spiritual peace in her life, she meets Richard (Richard Jenkins) they start a friendship. The last part in her self discovery journey is Bolly, where she meets again Ketut to thank him, also give more insights in her life. As she was planning her geographic plan, she meets Felipe (Javier Bardem) they run into each other, they are both divorced they have a few things in common. Things don't go quite as planned. She gets lost by the end of her stay. Despite the Hollywood cliche's and the Hollywood film making, at times this feels like a different movie. Only in this movie in the middle, Jenkins gives his best Oscar performance despite his little screen time. The pacing is great at times a little bit rushed, it's predictable but who cares that's what Gilbert made out to make in her novel at times it's original. The character development is socko, Murphy and Salt successfully put character development in Jenkin's character despite his screen time and so does Bardem who is phenomenal. Grade A
It's so predictable what were you expecting? It's made by the makers of "Valentine's Day" and director Gary Marshall (Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride) also screenwriter Katherine Fugate (writer of Valentine's Day) not to mention some of the cast members are in this, Marshall does a great job with making the film magical and glossy. It has some touching moments a few heartwarming scenes that's the only thing Fugate does right. It's New year's eve (the film's title)! In New York one night to promise love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and more. The mother daughter story: Kim (Sarah Jessica Parker) is a single mother she thinks her teenage daughter Hailey (Abigail Breslin) is a child, Hailey wants to do is go out with a boy named Seth (Jake T. Austin "Wizards Of Waverly Place") so she can kiss him at midnight. Hilary Swank plays Claire, who's in charge of the city's big tradition, the ball drop in Times Square something goes wrong so they get the grand Kominsky (Hector Elizondo who also starred in Valentine's Day) to fix it. The Ex's meet again story: Katherine Heigl plays Laura a chef who is cooking for a New Year's Eve party for a record company, she runs into her ex Jensen (John Bon Jovi) who's a rock star performing at that the party. The New Year's resolutions list story: Ingrid (played by the great Michelle Pfeiffer) after almost having a near-death experience, quits her job at a record company, asks Paul (Zac Efron) a messenger to help her achieve her New Year's resolutions list. At a hospital, Stan (the great Robert De Niro) who is in the final stages of cancer, who only wants to see the ball drop, his nurse Aimee (Halle Berry) is staying with him, who is making sure he is okay. Giving birth on New Year's Eve story: Tess (Jessica Biel who also starred in Valentine's Day, what is this a Valentine's Day reunion?) and Griffin (the funny and talented Seth Meyers) a couple who are expecting, want to be the first after New Year because of the available cash price; but they have a competition when another couple (Til Schweiger and Sarah Paulson) who wants the money and is about to give birth. Stuck in a elevator story: Randy (Ashton Kutcher) not a fan of the big holiday because something happened is on an elevator with Jensen's back up singers Elise (Glee's Lea Michelle) are stuck on an elevator. Sam (Josh Duhamel) who is out of town, he is trying to get to New York, to find the love of his life he meet last New Years. I liked this movie the acting was good despite wasted, it has a few great stories. Grade B-
People think do they they have to make this movie? Well if you want to know where these fun relate able comical characters are? Then here you go. All of our funny relate able comical, witty, merry characters in the first American Pie film are all back in the high school reunion. Let me just say briefly, that is certainly better than American Wedding. In the ensuing years, Jim (played again by Jason Biggs) is married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), though Kevin (Thomas Ian Nichols) has left Vicky (Tara Reid). Oz (Chris Klien) has grown apart from Heather (Mena Survai). Finch as always has the hots for Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge) and Stifler (Sean William Scott) is himself who works at a company. And Jim's Dad (Eugene Levy) is getting over his wife who has died. Sean William Scott plays a jockey **** very well handled, everyone here plays their characters very well, they managed to stay the same even though their old. Writer-directors Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay) take a crack at the franchise and made it all fun again, it has it problems such as at it times it can be funny I wished it could of had more character development and wanted to see more out of these love able character. Grade A-
It's not bad but it's a disappointment, I wanted to love this movie because the previews were funny, so I was hopping it was good, but then the jokes didn't work, and at times it was boring and then comes a mess. A play by the book cop Cooper (Reese Witherspoon), has to get Sofia Vergara's character to Dallas to testify against a drug lord named Cortez. Every thing goes wrong! A bunch of people in masks shoot a detective and Danielle's husband, Cooper and Danielle are framed, the police are chasing them and the bad guys. The film's trailer spoils the jokes making them less clever when you watch it on the big screen, I was just waiting for them to say the one liners from the trailer (really that's how these studios are going to market their comedies?). After almost winning an Oscar for the strongest and beautiful film "Wild" Resse Witherspoon is in this stale boring film "Hot Pursuit" I guess she wanted to come back into the comedy genre again? Her character is sort of like able, but her accent is rusty. There is chemistry between the leads, this film tries to be like the raunchy wickedly clever buddy cop flick 'The Heat' (Starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa MCcarthy). Sofia Vergara's character is annoying but really is clever. The jokes actually were funny but in the beginning they were tiresome and flat. The gags don't work and since this film is written television writers: David Feeney (New Girl) and John Quaintance this film is sort of meant for TV. I don't get how the writer of "New Girl" (which from it's reception says the show is good) wrote this script. Director Anne Flecther often gives us some funny slapstick scenes put overall her also producers of the film Witherspoon and Vergara give us Brobdingnagian mess. 2/4 stars
Predictable and lazy, the script by Robbie Fox (In The Army Now) is shiftless, basically what Fox is cramming this crap in and expecting people will love the cliche's, but the actors make this crappy script work they bring so much charisma into it, overall it's a heartwarming fun little tale about teamwork and family. Director Gabriele Muccino the director of Pursuit of Happyness which won an Oscar, is directing this mess and the directing is terrible; and what's the point of casting these talented people in this movie when they have nothing to do in this movie? I have no idea. The good times as a soccer play are over for George Dryer (played by Gerard Butler) is struggling financially and life, also struggling to reconcile with his ex-wife Stacey (Jessica Biel) and his young son (Noah Lomax). Lewis' soccer team isn't doing to well, so when they need a coach George steps up. Not only do the kids love him, the Milfs love him too. Butler stars in another dreadful film, but he does a good though, despite a cheap script and terrible direction, it's heartwarming. 2.5 out of 4 stars
Yes we've seen this before and were getting it again it’s cliche’d, but director Jessie Nelson and writer Steven Rogers turn into a honest look at families and relationships. I can see why people hate this movie, it’s corny, dopey and they want something new, yet at the same time we need one of these movies. But it’s so hard to hate the Coopers, what were you expecting really? The film is a wacky big hearted eccentric blithe with gripping characters that you just love them so much and give them a big hug. Even though the cast is wasted here, they do a good job playing their characters. Charlotte Cooper (played by Diane Keaton who looks like a ghost in this movie) and Sam Cooper (John Goodman) are a long time married couple who been married for 40 years, who hold their Christmas Eve family dinner but not told them they were about to separate. Alan Arkin plays the grandpa, he is ticked off because his favorite waitress (Amanda Seyfried) at Pamela’s Cafe is leaving. Marisa Tomei is Charlotte's younger sister, despising her because her parents loved Charolette more because her life crap and Charlotte’s life was perfect and happy, she tries to get her something expensive, so she gets arrested for shoplifting, and chats with a stern officer (played by Anthony Mackie). Olivia Wilde and Ed Helms are Charlotte and Sam’s grown up kids. Helms plays Hank, he is out of work and trying to be a single parent and get through the divorce with his ex-wife Angie (Alex Borstein). Olivia Wilde plays Eleanor, she feels she’s unloved and hates when people kiss in public or show affection. So she meets an solider (Jake Lacy) at an airport on leave, whom both actors have bona fide chemistry with one another, also is amazing. June Squibb plays the aunt, who saves the film. SPOILER ALERT! Steve Martin is the voice of the dog Rags, who is narrates the story also has a couple secrets of his own. 3/4 stars
It has the vein of Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise even though it's copying off of it, were distracted by Chris Evan's glossy and stunning direction. It's unrealistic, you don't buy some of the characters but the script oddly makes it work. A woman (Alice Eve) misses a 1:30 train from New York and street musician (Chris Evans) spend the night trying to help her make it back home before her husband does. They learn through out about one another and eventually find a romance between them. Corny but irresistible. Grade B-
