Before We Go

The chemistry makes the movie’s pleasures easy to surrender to, albeit fleetingly.

Unfortunately, there’s a more potent power present here: dullness.

Evans and Eve are always charming, but Brooke’s real-world problems ring false in a story held together by chintzy fatalism and the logic of a first draft.

The setup is so familiar that frustration sets in before the title has barely faded from view.

When the script isn't working, Evans turns towards the soundtrack and leans on indie rock when he can (and when the low-budget picture can afford it) to attempt to do some of the emotional lifting.

There's so little urgency, cleverness or romantic comedy zing to this effort from four credited screenwriters (including Oscar winner Ron Bass) that the whole effort seems to run solely on the smiles of its photogenic leads.

Nice movie I enjoyed it the storyline was the best so far big ups to the cast

One night adventure with a stranger! In his 15 year old acting career it was the Chris Evan's first direction. Many actors had tried that and only a few had succeeded, but some of them just preferred a low cost, simple project to avoid a major disaster. He also produced it and acted alongside the British actress Alice Eve. The film was a one night event based theme which begins when a young woman misses her train, and later forced to spend the night with a stranger after her purse got stolen. During lots of time left for the next train, theirs little adventure begins as they embark around the city. This is really a solid film. Well written screenplay and performed with a beautiful night adventure in the city that never sleeps. The problem with me was, I had seen many similar flicks, so this one looked okay, in a good way, but not that awesome. Still a fine film and definitely highly recommend others who like drama-romance. The plus point was the actors, the chemistry was brilliant. The story was very good, yet like I said it was so simple. It was not just two who meet and develop a friendship or a relationship, but they both reveal their story behind their visit to the city. At first it was a casual disclose, but the true reason comes out when they begin to trust each other and feel comfortable. So each of their tale has a small twist in the same night to overcome that was troubling them for some time. The film makes the impression that they two are made for each other, but only the final scene reveals how their destiny ends when the dawn breaks out. Not so clever, but an enjoyable little gem, maybe a perfect film for the date night. 6.5/10

Chris Evans was really not the type of actor that I expected to move on to directing but he does do a great job behind the camera. This film does not have a big budget and this film could almost still work without any other characters but the two lead so the film feels very independent. Chris Evans also knows the romantic comedy genre fairly well as he has starred in several before and after becoming Captain America. Evans and Alice Eve both give excellent performances in this movie. They are both very likeable and their chemistry is strong. Their relationship is believable. Sadly the script is the downside of Before We Go. I didn’t find the movie overly clichéd but there are a few scenes in here that really don’t belong and I didn’t really love the ending because it was difficult to see where the couple stood when the morning came. Before We Go is still a pretty good directorial debut from Chris Evans and I would be fine with seeing another film he directs

I applaud that Chris Evans tried as a director, but the script is practically null and does not leave anything worthy of attention, I already have the splendid trilogy of Linklater, why would I like to see something similar and of lower quality?

Yes, there is chemistry between the stars: Chris Evans & Alice Eve, but that's it. There is no originality here, not in the dialog, story, photography, sets, etc. If you've seen BEFORE SUNRISE, don't waste your time. Though set in NYC, this leaves out the city's many interesting places and vibrancy. Two characters that are drawn to one another, but don't want to commit to an act. I still wonder why Chris Evans, who could do just about any script he wanted to, was drawn to making this for his directorial debut. At least Ryan Gosling risked something in LOST RIVER.
