The game looks and runs fine, adds a number of new and interesting Pokémon and a new battle gimmick in Dynamax. The game also tries to add wild regions, but these are poorly executed and could use a bit more polish. The characters and story are also quite forgettable, even by Pokémon standards. The two DLCs are actually quite solid, but it **** that you have to pay even more money to get some decent content. Overall, Pokemon Shield is a decent game that is carried by the virtue of being a part of the Pokémon world. The music, especially during dynamax battles, is the only standout feature of the game.

The game runs smoothly on a Switch 2, but most of Paldea, excluding Area Zero, looks quite unappealing. The new Pokémon, the overall story, and the characters were actually quite good, but the technical issues prevent these aspects from truly shining. The game is open-world, but wild Pokémon and gym battles don’t scale according to your Pokémon’s level. The only thing the game excels at is traversal. Koraidon makes traveling across the region enjoyable. The two DLCs for this game also seem like low-effort slop. Going open world is the correct direction for Pokémon, but they need to fix a number of foundational issues, such as visual textures and level-scaling. Pokémon also needs to stop making NPCs who stand still. Give them something to do, or have them play with their Pokémon.

The game looks great and does a phenomenal job of recreating Kanto in a modern style while retaining its essence and charm. Playing with a hilariously overpowered Pikachu and mega evolutions of the Kanto starters was entertaining, but it made the game a bit too easy. The catching system is fine, and I don't think it better or worse than the catching system in the generation 7 games. My biggest complaint is that the game is a bit too easy and that it cuts out a lot of content from Fire Red/ Leaf Green such as the safari zone and the Sevii islands. All in all, these games are a good introduction to the franchise, but they could have used a bit more care and love from Game Freak.

The premise of the game is incredibly intriguing and the game incentivizes exploring the Hisui region. The game significantly deviates from the traditional Pokémon formula, which is likely what makes it so much fun. Wild pokemon, especially Alpha pokemon can hurt you, which makes you feel like the trainer is truly a part of the world. The story is pretty barebones, but it does a good job of developing the pokemon lore. The characters are also quite well-written for a pokemon game. Most new features, such as the open-world regions and the real-time catching system, have been implemented exceptionally well. However, the battling system is a bit of a mess, but you can easily ignore strong style and agile style moves and engage in traditional turn-based combat. Battling also seems to take the backseat as the game focusses on exploration and catching pokemon. However, the battles in the later part of the game are some of the toughest battles in the entire pokemon franchise. The research tasks make you feel, for the first time ever, that you are actually contributing to filling the pokedex and the side missions add depth to the world. This is easily the best Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch. The game’s graphics are lacking, but the watercolor-inspired art style partially compensates for it. Battling and riding the noble pokemon was fun, but these could have been executed better. Overall, Legends: Arceus is a great game with only flaws in its visual presentation a slightly repetitive gameplay loop.

The game is definitely over-hated. It has a pretty good story, decent characters, and a good gameplay loop involving catching pokemon, battling in the battle zones, battling in the Z-A Royale, and obviously catching pokemon. The new battling system is pretty solid, and the focus of this game is on trainer battles. The selection of pokemon is good, although the new mega evolutions are alright at best. The game looks fine and runs well. The biggest weakness of the game is Lumiose city itself. If the city had better looking buildings and more NPCs, this game could have been the best pokemon game in the post-Nintendo DS era excluding Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. Overall solid game. You will enjoy it if you like pokemon.
