Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
3
User Scorehumunguschungus

As far as I'm concerned Jason should have stayed dead and buried until 1986 when Tom McLoughlin gave us one of the best films in this roller coaster of a franchise. After four films the fifth decided to present us with a new beginning of the franchise... by doing exactly what the previous films did only with inferior results. If I recall correctly A new beginning actually has the highest body count of any film in the franchise, this is apparently because some of the higher ups felt that there should be a scare of some sort every few minutes. This results in most of the death scenes feeling incredibly rushed and put together haphazardly in the name of exploitation. Obviously the previous films were made with similar intent, but for my money they were better in nearly every aspect. With so many kills all back to back the tension of Jason being on screen is quickly diminished. It doesn't help that he is killing off some of the worst characters in slasher movie history. Thank god most of them die because I never want to see them again. Even Tommy Jarvis, who is meant to be our heroine in this film, is horribly acted and not at all convincing. The film's ending only makes these problems even worse. I suppose I shouldn't spoil it but rest assured you will be disappointed. Perhaps the biggest sin is that with a better written movie with more convincing characters such an ending could have been very effective. I would hope that no innocent man, woman, child or pet goldfish would ever watch this film with any expectations whatsoever. But what bothers me more so than the film itself is that I've hear some call it a hidden gem, a film so horrendous that it is actually entertaining. I call it trash.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

I'll be honest, this film gets a 2 simply because some of the scenes are so horrendous they can be enjoyed in a so bad its good way. That is not an endorsement of this films horrid writing by any stretch. In fact I would ask that anyone who considers themselves even a casual fan of this franchise pretend that Freddy's dead doesn't exist. Yes it is that bad. This film makes a mockery of Freddy Kruger and his fans. Here he is reduced to a strangely comic villain instead of being an evil serial killer. Would you like to see Freddy kill a teenager with the power glove? If so then this is the film for you. But I suspect that most of you will be taken aback by that revelation. For the love of god don't watch this piece of **** it will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Batman Forever

User Scorehumunguschungus

Batman forever does its best to right the wrongs of the last film (at least in the studio's eyes) but in the end it created what is the least offensive and extremely dull comic book film of the era. The more comedic tone and family oriented atmosphere is rather off putting when one considers the relative success of the previous installments. Jim Carrey has an amazing performance as Edward Nygma, and even Tommy Lee Jones has his moments, but in the end Joel Schumacher is simply not the director that Tim Burton is, regardless of the latter's mixed output.

Tim Burton's Batman may have established both Batman and the superhero genre as mainstream blockbusters, but the dark knight is the film that perfected superhero cinema. The Dark Knight is a rare example of a film that manages to stray a little from the source material but still be just as effective as the stories it is based on. The Dark Knight proves that Batman and the Joker are timeless characters that we as a society may never forget. LETS PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE!

The Disaster Artist is one of the most memorable comedies in years. Fans and those familiar with the room will find an enjoyable and rather informing tale of ultimate failure. Best of all, the disaster artist has lines that are arguably just as memeable as the original film.

Friday the 13th part III hasn't aged nearly as well as it could have without it's gimmicky 3D effects, but it still manages to be one of the most iconic films in the franchise not only because of the introduction of Jason's infamous hockey mask, but because of it's fun atmosphere. Do not take this film or any other slasher film seriously (for the most part). Although I will say that the film's reliance on cliches can often be downright annoying.

There are few films as genuinely entertaining as Stuart Gordon's lose adaptation of H.P Lovecraft's famous serial. Thankfully, Gordon makes the story his own and the film ultimately becomes more of a tribute to the tale rather than a adaptation. Re-Animator is campy, and it revels in it.

Halloween the curse of Michael Myers is so **** that the studio was forced to drastically overhaul it before its theatrical release, but that didn't help things much. Both versions of this atrocity are quite simply disrespectful to the work that John Carpenter and co. put into the original classic. Do not watch this film under any circumstances. It is dreadful.
