It has some pacing problems. The first hour didn't click with me. Nothing to put a finger on but it felt choppy and a bit flat. But at some point it hooked me and really shined until the end and even the strange first part made sense. I think it's because we all know the story; it's a mandatory literature curriculum in my part of the world. It's so familiar that you can't get into the cinema without certain expectations, preconceptions. And it took some time for me to figure out ok this is different but it's great. The movie is its own interpretation of The Odyssey. Looking for historical inaccuracies (which is silly on it's own because it's an interpretation of fiction that has seen countless iterations over millenia) is fruitless. The changes to the plot, the casting and setting choices reinforce this interpretation of the story with a new underlying theme.
