I want to begin by acknowledging the film’s overall quality, especially the visual quality of certain scenes and sets, although this level is not consistent throughout the entire movie. My criticism mainly concerns everything surrounding the story of **** someone like me, an Italian who was born and raised in the Mediterranean, Greek, Mycenaean, and Spartan history has been an important part of our education since primary and middle school. We grew up reading and hearing these myths, learning about their characters, events, and many of their details. This does not mean that we are experts, but it does mean that we are generally quite familiar with the world of ancient Greece and with the way its myths and stories have traditionally been **** this reason, I felt that the film lacked detail, both in major and minor aspects. I was not expecting to see every ordinary moment of Odysseus’ life, but I did expect more attention to the Greek cities, customs, traditions, environments, and especially the characters who are important not only in the Odyssey, but in Greek mythology as a **** film is missing the sense of epic grandeur that has always defined these stories in our imagination. It lacks memorable dialogue, it lacks magic, and above all, it lacks Greece itself. Odysseus never seems genuinely surprised by anything. He realizes that his journey is moving completely beyond any normal geographical or rational logic, yet he reacts to everything with an almost unnatural emotional distance.Overall, I found the film sterile and lacking the details that could have made it truly memorable. In 2026, with the technology available today, it should have been possible to portray antiquity and the world of Greek mythology with the same grandeur that generations of readers and viewers have always imagined.
