Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I enjoyed the 1st Guardians of the Galaxy but thought that this was some of the most inane garbage I've ever seen. The plot, if you could call it that, starts about 90 minutes into the movie and is barely passable, much of the humor misses the mark and the characterisation is woeful. On the plus side it is colourful and some of the sound effects are good, its big budget nonsense that you don't even need half a brain cell to watch. How do people rate this garbage so highly? There's nothing to it, special effects and nothing of any substance. I grew tired of the superhero genre after Civil War and have just returned to see what I was missing, it turns out I didn't miss anything just more of the same dumb, formulaic, Marvel-by-numbers.

I really enjoyed this movie, the Atmos audio is incredible, reference quality, and as good as Blade Runner and Mad Max, it adds so much to the movie. The 4K version is also stellar quality and has nice stylised colour throughout the film with lots of vibrant reds and blues. The film itself is fun and action packed, it reminded me **** old Schwarzenegger 80s action movie, in a good way, the story is pretty basic but carries well throughout the film and Vin Diesel plays the character effortlessly, there is some humour and plenty of bombastic action scenes which are great with the sound turned up. Its more of an action movie than your typical by-the-numbers superhero movie. The CGI and special effects are really well done, apart from the elevator scene at the end which is a bit too CGI heavy and cartoon-like, I thought it spoilt the immersion a bit looking too artificial looking but otherwise its a great action film, and I would be interested in watching a sequel.

I'd say its one of the most powerful and gripping films of all time. Its filmed documentary style and not given a hollywood war-time story or larger than life characters. I think its the down-to-earth story and low budget 'fly on the wall' style filming about how life would change that brings the horror home. Its not a horror film in the modern sense but it is very moving. This film will stay with you for years after watching.

I thought this was a well made, decent, movie. It gets especially silly towards the end but that's just standard for the superhero genre. It was entertaining and had a fairly interesting plot, a little different from the standard superhero formula. It doesn't really do anything outstanding or original but its well acted and enjoyable with some good stunt work.

Pixars standards have REALLY dropped for this movie. It has some unique and original elements but all in all its just a standard journey quest plot that has been done many times before. Its something to watch to pass the time and the ending is quite heartfelt but it doesn't come anywhere close to Up, Inside Out or any number of other Pixar movies. Its more like a Dreamworks B movie than a polished Pixar movie with a strong story and emotional content. Entertaining enough, my kids sat through it but weren't particularly interested or engaged by the characters, story or animation. Its a safe by-the-numbers family film thats missing the Pixar magic of other films.

This really is a shell of a movie, the visuals are pretty good but there is no substance, it boring, predictable and extremely cliched. The film does a really good job of recreating the manga look and feel, although it does blatantly copy a lot from Bladerunner, thats about as good as it gets though. The dialogue is clumsy, extremely cliched, and overly simplistic. The script is dumbed down and everything is spelled out in clumsy conversations. It starts off quite interesting, but by half way through the movie I completely lost interest in the characters and plot, it was like the actors phoned in their performances and the script writer just gave up trying to make a cohesive and interesting story. The action scenes were OK but the acting is wooden and unconvincing, I didn't care for the characters or the story so in the end just gave up on it.

Surely the worst of all 9 Star Wars films, even worse than the awful Last Jedi. The movie jams too much pointless plot in and is all over the place trying to undo some of the plot points in TJA. There is far too much idiocy in this film. How is Palpatine magically resurrected without explanation? Rey is just so overpowered its facepalm ridiculous, it just doesn't work, the scrawny Rey is more of a superhero than a jedi, the character is just not believable. The ending is cringeworthy and its just like The Force Awakens, redoing scenes that have been seen many times before in Star Wars for the last 40+ years.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

This film is ultimately a waste of time and a flop as far as expanding Han Solo as a character is concerned. This Han is no Harrison Ford, not by a LONG, LONG shot. All the acting except Woody Harrelsons is average at best, and I thought Alden Ehrenreich was a poor choice as a substitute Han. There were a few nice moments, and some backstory expanded upon, but the main plot of the movie was underwhelming and the film didn't really have any purpose to it except to unsuccessfully expand upon what was already known about Han. If you thought Jar Jar Binks was a bad character you've seen nothing yet! L33T is probably the most cringeworthy character ever to grace cinema screens, some of the lines are just embarrassingly bad. Even Lando's character was over-rated, I was expecting a charismatic performance based on reviews but even Lando was hollow and underwhelming, and his sexual innuendos with the robot I thought was bizarre and unsuitable to include in a family film. Its purely a cash-in and you could tell it had production issues right the way through. Its a shame the more Disney milk the franchise the more stale it becomes.

I've just seen this film on Dec 27th, I shouldn't have bothered. I shouldn't have been worried about plot spoilers and read the user reviews, the critical ones on here are correct so I won't repeat most of what has been said already, other than the film has death star sized plot holes, some of the most ridiculous plot devices, lame humour, hollow characters, pointless side plots, a complete disregard for the previous movies and Star Wars lore, and some of the most blatent political correctness I've ever seen in a movie. I won't be watching any more Disneyfied milking of this franchise if the upcoming movies are this bad.

The film is visually stunning and has some great ideas, with better actors and a cohesive plot it could have been fantastic. Unfortunately most of the movie is cringeworthy, firstly you are expected to believe a couple of wimpy high-school kids are super tough intergalactic heroes. Quite why they have teens piloting the spaceships, and a whole galaxy depending on them, when a whole host of better suited people are around them is never explained. Then you are also expected to believe that the lead actor is some sort of lothario, and that his partner is besotted with him, but they both are completely wooden and there is no chemistry between them. The story then muddles around for a bit without purpose and Rhianna pops up for a cameo appearance to plug a song in a sequence that should have been left on the cutting room floor. The final act has no surprises and you can see what is coming from a mile off, it ends with a bizarre conclusion, and the fakest most unconvincing love scene I've ever seen in a film. Cara Delevingne rolls her eyes and acts bratish a lot and Dane DeHaan very unconvincingly plays the tough guy. Such a shame as I thought the concept had a lot of potential.

Firstly the negatives - its not a popcorn movie. If you see that as a positive rather than a negative, then its likely you will really enjoy this masterpiece of a sequel. You really need to have seen the first film, if you enjoyed the first then this film should be a treat. The story, cinematography, acting, and sound are as good as you could hope for and this is the best follow up to any film I've seen. Blade Runner is one of my favorite films, this has just been added to my list. I wont spoil the story but you wont see many better sequels than this.

This is one of the most unexpectedly brilliant films I've seen in a very long time. Its low budget, set in one location, but don't let that put you off, the characterisation and interplay is just awesome and the small location just adds to the drama, I wont give the plot away as that would spoil it (not that there's much of a plot), but it is very well thought out and hilarious in places. The best dark comedy film I've ever seen.

Its massively over-rated by the critics. That said it is a very good movie, just not the masterpiece of cinema that it is purported to be by some. The story is epic and is well scripted and very moving, it makes you really appreciate how lucky we are to live in this day and age and how differently people had it a short while ago. The action sequences are taut and enjoyable, the story is believable throughout and the characterisation is very good, there aren't any over the top superhero type characters, just ordinary people being thrown into extraordinary circumstances. It does however have something missing that makes it miss the mark, it didn't live up to expectations for me, maybe I was expecting a Forest Gump or some unique quality to set it apart from the multitude of other war movies. In years to come I don't think this will be seen as a classic. The sound was also horrible in some places, I say sound rather than music as it is just horrible wailing noises over and over and over, its done to increase the tension but it didn't work for me, by the end of the movie it had become very overused and a distraction more than anything else. Great film, everyone should watch it to appreciate how lucky we are, but not a Classic IMHO.

People were walking out of the showing I was in and at times I felt like joining them. The film starts out well and it has a few novel ideas but its mostly just packed out with so many special effects they end up being not special at all, car crash after car crash, explosion after explosion, after a while it all just gets boring. Most of the film is facepalm worthy, but the hacking sequences take the absurdity of the franchise to new lows. The plot is dumb as dumb can be and you can see the "twists" coming from a mile away. Hollywood think their audience is so thick they even spell out the plot in the simplest terms via dialogue, and flashback cutscenes, when its blatantly obvious already whats going on. The actors do a good job with the lack of script they were given and characters with the depth of a piece of paper. Switch your brain off, feel your IQ dropping by the minute its so dumb, and a few hours pass by. Apart from one original, fun, sequence near the end its all been done better before.

I was really hoping Marvel/Disney was going to do something fresh and original for this movie, but no, its just the same old origin story we've seen countless times before. This kind of movie is getting really stale, I don't read comic books but like good movies and this is only an average movie. Kaecilius is yet another underpowered, bland, villain that poses no real threat, so there is no suspense or tension, its just another by the numbers forgettable superhero film.

There are a couple of laugh-out-loud funny moments (two to be exact), but its not enough to rescue this movie. Its a sequel in the most literal sense, if you've seen the first there are no surprises at all. Even if you haven't seen the first film there aren't any real surprises, the plot is shallow and obvious all the way from start to end. Its nauseously politically correct, and for a comedy that doesn't work at all. Its overly preachy and not very funny, not a good formula for a comedy. It also has all the usual college tropes, and is very unimaginative, just a quick cash-in on the success of the first film.

Compared to the excellent Winter Soldier, this is dull as dishwater. It starts out with a boring fight scene, then nothing happens for about 20 minutes as the superheros all sit round talking nonsense, then another boring fight scene, followed by a boring car chase. If you're not emotionally invested in these comic book characters and just want to watch an engaging film, this isn't one to watch. I was utterly bored by half way and gave up watching. Its all been done before, and its been done better. These superhero movies are a conveyor line of mediocrity and I'm done with the whole genre now, there's too many that are essentially all the same thing, people in spandex fist-fighting in CGI filled-sequences. They're all becoming mindless garbage designed to get the comic book fans into the cinemas during the first week no matter how bad these films are.

I found myself thinking WOW this is a masterpiece many times during this movie, it grabs you right from the very start and the story progresses nicely with some really good humour. The plot is fairly straightforward and is not overly complex, its kept simple for the U audience but the film I think is appealing to all ages, particularly adults. The animation and cinematography is absolutely sumptuous, it reminded me of Mad Max Fury Road in the way that it cleverly uses rich colour in its visual design. The acting is well done and sound effects and music are all top notch. I would watch this film again for sure. The only thing that slightly lets it down (and what all the negative ratings are critisizing) is its straightforward hero story, but I think some are forgetting it is a U movie, and anything more complex may have reduced its audience to older children. As its a U it gets a full 10 from me.

I enjoyed the first two films and was expecting to like this too, but the franchise seems to have gone off the rails for some reason. The plot seemed a bit dumbed down from the previous movies but even so was pretty nonsensical. I was able to suspend my disbelief for the first two films but this one just seemed a bit more silly and the action sequences were pretty contrived and lacked any real threat to the characters, although one of the characters at the start of the movie got shot by a bullet that could apparently change direction at will, seeing as she was standing away from the edge of a really large wall and got shot by someone at the bottom. It just went downhill from that point onwards. Just about worth watching if you have watched the previous two films, but otherwise its a pretty lame film in its own right.

I thought the character development and interaction between the new characters, and the interaction with the established characters was excellent, there were plenty of nods and references to the previous films which I loved seeing, and the CGI was magnificent. I think the movie was an excellent bridge from the original trilogy to the development of Finn, Kylo Ren and Rey and I cant wait to see what comes next. I'm surprised at the number of hater comments for this film, it was pure spectacle and just what a Star Wars film should be.

Whoever wrote the screenplay for this film is a genius. The story is engaging and charming and the animation, as always with Pixar films, is pushing the boundaries of computer animation. I often rate movies 10 because they're really good, this is getting a 10 because it is AMAZING. I'd say its the best, most epic, car chase in the history of cinema. It has an interesting, unique, plot but the plot is really just there to drive the action and WOW what an action movie it is. Its one of the best I've ever seen, from start to end the pacing is spot on, it builds and builds to an epic climax, then gives you a minute to get your breath back and then off it goes again. Tom Hardy suits the character of Max brilliantly, he doesn't have a lot to say, but its not really that kind of movie with long exposition and dialogue, for the first part of the movie he has a clamp around his face so his mannerisms and actions say more than his words. Charlize Theron plays a really strong character as Furiosa and pulls it off perfectly, the two characters work really well together and some of the other characters are surprisingly good. It looks like a Max Max film should, the sets, costumes, special effects and stunts fit the Mad Max world perfectly and it all fits together to make it an absolute blast to watch. Dont miss this! I'll be going back to watch it a second time in a 4DX theater.

It seems the author got a good story started but there are so many absurdities, plot holes and nonsensical actions in the last 30 minutes that it just ruins the plot and everything that came before it. All the legitimate questions as to the implausibility of Amys story asked by Detective Boney were all just brushed aside, probably so they could cash in with a sequel. With a less daft ending it would have been a much better film in my opinion.

This is without doubt one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Bad cardboard acting, cliche characters, awful soundtrack, lame 80's cinematography and a ridiculous and morally bankrupt premise. This film is absolutely atrocious.

This was my favorite film of the year so far. No CGI, no high-octane action, just a great plot that is superbly acted by every single one of the cast. The story isn't fast paced, but it develops well and keeps your attention from start to finish. The cinematography is just perfect and really adds to the film, the lead actor has a very commanding screen presence and you really get drawn into his world and the story that develops around his character. This film shows a completely different character for a spy compared to Ian Flemings James Bond, but one equally as enjoyable to watch on a big screen. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and would watch it again on blu-ray.

I thought this movie was a complete waste of time. It was nowhere near as entertaining as the first two Expendables that I really enjoyed. The plot was extremely weak, chock full of cliches and was completely predictable. I know that's kind of the point with these films, but this one doesn't pull it off well. You always know whats coming next with this film, it doesn't have any surprises or interesting scenes. The actors are far too good for the plot. It was also a bad idea reducing the rating to PG-13, I had a bunch of inconsiderate kids in front of me that couldn't stop texting every 5 minutes. In trying to expand the market for this film the producers have just made it **** more. I doubt I'll be watching 4, if it ever gets made.

This film didn't really live up to the critics reviews for me. Its a great concept and parts of the film are interesting but it just went on, and on, and on. You can draw parallels with your own experiences in places, but for the most part is a pretty uneventful story apart from a few key scenes. For me the concept would have worked much better if it followed an actual family, and recorded their moments rather than being a series of set pieces played by actors, some of which you can relate to in your own life and those of your children and your parents. Its a great concept and an interesting film, but I thought it didn't really live up to the wide acclaim the film has been given.

I had pretty high expectations for this film, and they were met, I really enjoyed this film from start to finish. Its a believable, down-to-earth, and heartwarming feel-good movie, but it isn't at all cheesy or overly sentimental. The acting is superb, the pacing and length just right and it has some really funny moments. The characters are all very endearing and all very well scripted and acted. The cinematography is superb and the food looks sumptuous. I don't have anything bad to say about this movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely watch it a second time.
