To start this review I would like to say that I probably spent most of the time in my childhood playing this game above all others. I had at least 1000 hours over multiple save files and multiple playthroughs. So believe me when I say that this remaster is very, VERY disappointing. The nature of a remaster means that we cannot rate the game based on game content that was part of the previous iteration of the game as that would just be redundant circlejerking (if you want the original reviews they are still on metacritic). Instead we must only rate the new/remastered content and the content that should have received a remaster. 1st off: Graphics. This has got to be some of the laziest s*** I have ever seen. The backgrounds in towns actually appear to be worse than the ps1 original. The only parts of the overworld that got an actual rework were the character/enemy models (to their credit those were actually well done). The battles are a disjointed mish mash of frame rate drops and awkward 60 fps damage pop ups that are actually quite distracting. The cutscenes are exact pulls from the ps1 version with no smoothing or even upscalling AT ALL. Finally I would like to know why the font is set to "I have the eyesight of a molerat" size for EVERYTHING. 2nd: Music. The soundtrack received absolutely NO remaster at all. Take this as you will but if im gonna buy a remaster I like to have the soundtrack reworked with an option to switch to the original. and 3rd: Gameplay. There are built in cheats for the game that are accessible through the pause menu and the config menu. I understand that this was originally set up as an iOS game and as such cheats to speed progress would be a boon to people who just want a casual time waster while commuting. They do however drain all the fun from the game for people looking for an actual gameplay experience. I urge you to play without the cheats at least once. Other than the cheat menu there are no real changes to the battle system. The analogue movement has been removed which results in clunky overworld movement but that is more of a quality of life thing and not really a hindrance to gameplay. The addition of trophies however was nice and definitely increases replay-ability. As a person who wanted this game remastered for so long, I find myself very saddened by the cheap and heartless way this game was reborn. ESPECIALLY in light of how beautifully ff12 was done. If you are new to this game I urge you to play the original ps1 version (available for the psp, psvita and ps3 on the psn for 6 dollars). If you are an old fan then you may get some enjoyment out of it but don't go into it thinking that this is gonna be anywhere near as good as the ff12 or even the ffx/x-2 remakes were. Overall I give this game a 5.

tl;dr: Its deus ex with a dishonored art flair There is nothing prey does that has not been done by other games a million times before. But after the recent crap that has come out trying to be "inovative" its a breath of fresh air. Seriously, most fans of games say "i really liked that game, I would like more of that in the sequel/spin off" to which studios answer "lol no, were gonna do this inovative thing and circle jerk over the results" Prey sticks to a very tried and true set of concepts and mechanics and the result is nowhere near a game of the year, and im sure critics wont drool on it, but as a guy who likes a decent game that has some playability to it, im reall liking it. there are some negatives however. The story is thin as hell and heavily relies on the backstory to prop it up. The enemies are bland and when you encounter them the screen goes hazy-ish (yes I understand the reason for this, its still annoying). Moat of the characters you actually interact with are uninteresting while the characters in the audiologs are the interesting ones...very odd... and the station on the whole is a little small for my tastes. all in all i give it an 8.

all game development companies should take note. THIS is what you get when you put competent staff together with a decent budget and a time frame long enough to accomplish the entire vision of the game. This game absolutely DRIPS with polish, love, attention and care even in the smallest details. AND THE MUSIC!! not since Nobuo Uematsu hit his peak in the PS1 era of the final fantasy games have I heard a score in a game so profoundly AWESOME. This game will set the benchmark for what a turn based RPG should be in todays gaming world like The Witcher 3 did for open world RPGs.

Completely and utterly the worst possible game that could have come after such a cultural phenomenon that was the original mass effect trilogy. I could have slammed the keyboard a few dozen times and still come out with a better story, better programing and better art. this is what you get when you combine hiring low talent staff with check box style marketable game content

It plays like a cod game. Its fun as hell. Nothing too new here cept the campaign now plays more like a select a mission based system. actual review is an 8 but im setting it as a 10 to offset the trolls

The negative reveiwers for this game clearly never played any of the older final fantasy games. The complaint that the game is linear and that other titles were not does not hold water at all. ff 1 through 9 were completely linear 'go to point a then b then c then d etc. only in ff 12 was it an open world kind of idea. also complaining about the art style is assinine. Square has always experimented with art styles in the past. so there is no 'this is what an ff art style looks like'. even if you didnt like it you knew what you were getting when you bought the game so there is no valid complaint to be made about the art style. kudos to square for trying something different and bringing this to our western markets fully translated even though we are clearly spoiled and entitled children who do nothing but whine.

If I was to take this as a stand alone game then it would be awesome. But its not. It has a reputation to uphold and it dosn't hold it very well. If you are a fan of fallout 3 and NV then you will find that fallout 4 leaves much to be desired. The interactions are watered down, the perk system has moved away from numerical RPG ish stats, the map is tiny, the locations are all really bland and the dungeons are short. My biggest complaint though is that this game is built on the skyrim engine and thus it feels like a ps3 title. Positives however include some of the the AWESOME graphics (props to the persons that did the water, its **** The colors are nice, no more grey wasteland. The smallish map is packed with locations to see. The settlement building system is cool (if unpolished) and the weapons customization system is EPIC...still a little unpolished though. overall what I say dosnt matter though as it is a fallout game and its made by bethesda. They litteraly make nothing but game of the year award winners lol

She could literaly boot his ass six ways from sunday but he still treats her like a china doll he must protect and it gets really annoying. If your rolling your eyes and thinking 'another femenist complaint in a game?' I encourage you to play some scenes where drake is with sully or sam. then play when he is with elena. The difference in behavior is soooooo white knight. overall though i loved the game as a whole

I already did a reveiw for the ps3 title so in this review im just gonna list the improvements and failings of the vitas version. Negative: Framerate drops are a huge issue. its important to note tho that the drops never feel like they are going to freeze the game but they are still very noticeable especialy in quanterv and during battles. Possitive: there have been an few tweaks to the translation here and there and it reads smoother thanks to it, you get an extra costume for all 4 main characters right off the bat which, personaly, i think look better than their original costumes by miles (especialy for earthes since he used to look like the assasin droid HK-47 from knights of the old republic and now he looks like a dark samurai gundam) overall the simpleness of the game makes it feel better on the vita than it did on the ps3 where it felt kinda low budget. also since the vita is lacking for games of this depth in story its a welcome addition to its library.

I was very disappointed in this game, Which is sad cause i loved rebirth 1. Its flaws stem from its recycling of rebirth 1's content (i felt like i bought a half assed version of rebirth 1) and the short, bland story. Negatives: The ENTIRE soundtrack was a MESS! Nearly EVERY song was some form of a sloppy remix of a BGM or theme song from rebirth 1 (the exception being rom and rams theme which was made of catchy awesomeness). Almost all the enemy fodder was also recycled. The main cast (the CPU candidates) are all very whiny preteen girls without an ounce of confidence between them (excluding ram, who actually had confidence). The story was RIDICULOUSLY short for the $50 I payed for it (the world was also incredibly small and dungeons, very few). The main bad guys (the 4 felons and the "deity of sin") had no fleshing out to their characters. they existed solely to easily be beat by the main cast. one of them was even a pedo monster... it was.... weird... The stellas dungeon was also a broken mess what with the randomness of the enemys that appear and can kill you no matter what your gear. last but not least, anyone who payed attention to the whole story in rebirth 2 would realize they actually screwed up the back story from rebirth 1. Positives: The art is well done (cute where it needs to be and cool where it counts). As mentioned Rom and Rams theme is AWESOME. Compa got slightly smarter (heh). Neptune is still funny (but she appears too late to save the over all lack of confidence.) Overall NOT a recommended game (unless your bored and can find it cheap used)

However im glad i picked this game up. im kinda hooked on it at the moment so ill keep this breif. possitives: excellent graphics, likeable characters, choice of protagonist (traditional wussy boy who finds himself on the journey or a bad ass busty god woman who is made of win), good music, excelent shop leveling system.good fast travel system, and enviroments are varied. negatives: sometimes the facial expressions seem a little... off, could use a little bit more backstory to the world and each of the characters. Extremely inferior to the first 2 games, which were for the ps2. The first 2 had an engaging storyline, did not try to muddy the backstory to add a preceived depth to the world and did not have an oversaturation of pervy dialogue which i dont usually mind but in this game it becomes tiresome. The stripping of the heroines is also a feature which gets tiresome. if it was once in a while as like a reward mechanic then i could see it being an enjoyable thing, but every single little battle is a bit much (unless your a 14 year old boy whom has never seen a naked woman). i also wish they left the graphics as sprites as they had for the first 2 games, they were very charming and this game suffered for the poorly rendered and implimented 3d models they went with. possitives: the cosmosphere is more entertaining this time around as its not just a static path, the heroines are likeable and very distinct, the hymnnos music is as always very interesting, and an alpha male for a main character is HUGELY WELCOME. negatives: slow confusing storyline, feels like a rushed game, too much reliance on pervy mechanics. overall i only recomend this game to anyone who played the first 2 and wanted to the the conclusion to the trilogy.

Finaly the atelier games have found perfection. let me explain for those of you who now want my blood. The atelier games originally were designed to be clean, simple and light rpg games. meaning they are not weighed down with too much story, too much lore, too many characters, too many bosses etc ad nausium. Unfortunately in the last 5 games (rorona, totori, meruru, ayesha and esha & logy) they artificially tried to push in some difficulty with the time mechanic to appease a select few hard core Japanese gamers who wanted something hard. To any of you who are in the know (or are capable of reading between the lines) you could see that this move hurt the series overall. I am NOT saying that the aforementioned games are bad. I did enjoy them. and i would have loved to enjoy them for longer than the forces 20 hours of play i had. shallie fixes that. I can play for as looooong as i want and advance the story as leisurely as i want to. this is how rpg's should be. Possitives: graphics are good, 360 camera is a nice addition, music is realy nice, i love the character shalotte as i always found the series could use a punky/mildly alt heroine to balance the mostly girly ones, the search and gather system is awesome (think manakhemia inspired battles with sleek visuals) and the usable items replenish when you return to town (not too necessary a feature without a time limit to restrict synthesis but hey, ill take it) Negatives: the areas you visit seem a little bland (never did like desert scapes too much), the quests seem a little repatative and the layout of the quest menu is a bit of a step back from the ease of the one in ayesha. overall i recomend this to alllll rpg fans

Kudos to the arc and toybox companies for coming up with the first original concept for a game in a looooooong time. The game itself is essentially a board game slammed together with a tactical rpg and married with a virtual novel. It works really well! Positives: The characters for the VN portions are actively animated using an art style that is very visually pleasing, The games dialogue is very well translated and does not suffer from the "engrish" problem in so many new JRPG north American releases, the atmosphere of the game matches perfectly with the story line, and they got Uematsu-san to do the music for the game (for those of you who don't know this means its gold), the characters are well emoted and can be really silly and/or otaku which i find quite well done considering the possible derailment of such a title with these antics Negatives: alot of the game mechanics you will need to learn from trial and error as the games built in guide explains NOTHING clearly (I ended up licking a character I was speaking to accidentally...yeah), The battles you will never get particularly good at as many aspects of it revolve around luck (this can also be a positive as it also means they never get really boring), and the game has absolutely NO back story to the main character and his entrance into the core group is forced at best. overall i recomend this game to those who are tired of playing the same tropey crap and would like an interesting experience (buy it on playstation network tho as its nearly 20 dollars cheaper than retail[canada])

I grew up playing zelda games of all makes and models. I love this series, and this game is no exception. I had beaten FULLY the n64 version of majoras mask twice so needless to say i was pretty efficient at it. when i started playing this game however, for what i thought was gonna be another leasurely playthrough, i was suprised at how much of the game they "tweaked". I will make this clear, I am ELATED that they did this! now i have the same game with all new suprises! for veterans, some of the main changes ive noticed (no spoilers): Clock town has been reorganised slightly, owl statues now allow for saving WITHOUT canceling the game or rewinding time, some in game dialogue has been added and existing dialogue has been altered slightly ("fleshed out"). Some songs you get slightly earlier, the bombers notebook is given to you so you dont have to play the "new" hide and seek twice, the bombers note book got a MAJOR overhaul and now supports in depth menus and an alarm feature to remind you of events, THERE IS AN EPIC FISHING MINI GAME THAT IS REMNICENT OF THE ONE IN TWILIGHT PRINCESS (sans boat) my only complaint? the clock on screen no longer looks pretty (heh) over all recomendation: if you own a 3ds you need this game.

Passionately. especially in games like this which are soo rich in content that i would love nothing more than to spend hours and hours synthing everything and scouring every map. That being said the time limit is less restricting on your second playthrough just out of sheer knowlage of the system. an awesome game otherwise, the graphics are great, the characters are for the most part fleshed out, there are the standard tropes but the game manages not to fall all over them, and the comedy throughout the game will keep everything rather light and refreshing.

Im sure this game would have been 1000 times better had i actually watched the anime before playing the game. That being said this is an EPIC title for any vita owner. The world is HUGE, the characters are many, the graphics are top notch and the combat system keeps you engaged (especially if you don't like your '0' button as your gonna beat it like it owes you money). There is also a small dating sim element that feels for organic than the traditional 'scale walls of text to get the girl'. Your also not confined to being with Asuna, tho the story assumes you are and makes you feel a little greasy if your going for another girl. On the negative side however, this game suffers from a translation that would make Ar Tonelico 2 look like it came off the desk of a university professor. Avid JRPG gamers such as myself might read this and ask 'how bad can it possibly be? Ive played many poorly translated games and they don't really bother me'. trust me, you will understand. Other than the occasional frame rate drop while there are many NPC's on the screen or landing yourself in an area WAAAAAAYYYYY out of your level range (and thanks to cannon this happens fairly often) there is little else to complain about with this title. over all wicked game deserving of being in your library.

This game was a solid 'Monster Hunter' type game but I found there was almost a need in the later levels to be playing co-op, lest you receive a beat down. There also needed to be more diversity to the maps themselves as there are only about 5 or so different ones. They are all quite big, however. All things considered (with its relatively low price and longish campaign) I would definitely recommend this game to any vita user looking for a good value.
