The most visually stunning film I've ever seen. If the story wasn't loaded with so many overused cliches, tropes, and already-used-in-this-series plot lines, it would be a 10. At the very least, give us a new villain.

Predator: Badlands7

A solid sci-fi action film with lots of special effects eye candy. I really enjoyed the many fights with monsters of all types. It was an enjoyable film that I might even watch again, but I only gave it a 7 due to the use of many overused tropes we've seen over and over in other films, and I really wasn't digging Elle Fanning in either of her roles (casting issue).

6 points for a creative storyline. No bonus points for loading the film with big name actors or politically-charged themes.

This film is actually much better than the preview makes it look. Based on the preview, I was expecting something silly, maybe even comedic. This film is certainly not a comedy. As reported in the preview, this film does seem a lot like an early Tarantino film, so if you're a fan of his films, you know basically what to expect and will find this film entertaining.

Superman3

Some nice special effects, but a poor storyline that generates far too many eye-rolling moments. For an audience that has already seen far too many comic book hero films, this one miserably fails at standing out.

A refreshing return to the zombie genre where the conflict is between humans and zombies, as opposed to the vastly overplayed scenario where it is one human group versus another human group and the zombies are background noise.

Black Bag7

While this is a typical spy movie complete with a complicated web of relationships, hidden motives, betrayal, etc., this one is a bit more approachable than most. The plot doesn't require intense thought throughout the film in order to follow along, like some others in the genre.

If you saw the preview and thought, "I'd like to see that", then this is for you. If you saw the preview and thought, "doesn't look all that great, but maybe the film has more going on than the preview lets on", then you're going to be disappointed. A very basic, drawn out suspense film that is still fairly entertaining.

The Brutalist3
Jan 30, 2025
The film was long, but not boring. Entertaining, but not noteworthy. I kept feeling like the story was on the verge of evolving into something memorable and profound, but then it ended and that had never happened. The acting was good, but I never really connected with/understood the behavior of the main characters. I enjoyed the 1950's atmosphere, but there was nothing I found particularly creative in the execution of the film. It was just a long slog through a depressing immigrant experience. Definitely not sitting through this one again.

Megalopolis3

I was able to follow the basics of the plot, but felt like there was a much deeper story being told that I just wasn't able to decipher. Unfortunately, the film wasn't enjoyable enough for me to want to sit through it a second time to try and figure it out.

Deadpool & Wolverine6

Almost nonstop vulgar hilarity punctuated with senseless overdone violence. Very entertaining in its own way, with a storyline that is meaningful to fans of the Loki series, but perhaps confusing to those that haven't seen it.

Lots of tornados along with a plotline that had me questioning whether the script was written during the writer's strike.

Some interesting new ideas, but the "3 short stories" format led to a disjointed theater-going experience for me.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes7
May 15, 2024
A familiar and fairly predictable plot, but the fact that it was acted out by (very well animated) apes made it much more interesting than it would have been otherwise. As is, its a solid family action/adventure film.

Civil War7
Apr 19, 2024
The story of a civil war, told from the perspective of a couple of journalists trying to take the ultimate photograph of the mayhem. Although there was a consistent set of characters and an evolving plot, it felt a bit like a series of almost disconnected vignettes as they rolled along on their journey. Not an action film, but definitely violent. Not a sappy drama, but with a few tear-jerker moments. Not a horror film, but containing a few horrific moments.

Bob Marley: One Love4
Feb 29, 2024
I'm a life-long Marley fan, and loved this film for the music. However, the story felt disjointed, the dialogue is sometimes difficult to follow (captions would help), it doesn't tell much at all about the beginnings of Marley's life, and there were a few too many themes/tropes that I've seen in a dozen other 'musician-biography' films.

Overall a poorly executed film. I'm only giving it a 2 because of the somewhat original idea behind it.

Poor Things9
Jan 3, 2024
At multiple points during the watching of this film I thought to myself, "I have no idea what is going to happen next." Very creative and original, rather than another re-make of a plot we've already seen many times before (like most everything else in the theater presently). Extra bonus points for being hilarious throughout. One of the best films of 2023. Be warned that it is an R-rated film; leave the kids at home, and if you're not comfortable with adult content, stay home yourself.

Saltburn3
Dec 15, 2023
Essentially a remix of The Talented Mr Ripley, but with a more intentional protagonist and amped up homoeroticism. Once I realized I was watching a take on that classic, the plot was pretty predictable. I never really cared for any of the characters, the sets weren't anything new, and the final portion of the film where notable plot developments were actually happening seemed rushed.

Priscilla4

The costumes changing over the years of Priscilla's life was interesting, but other than that the film did not have much plot or development. I think this film appeals to those who are already familiar with the Elvis and Priscilla story. I am not, and consequently was not as entertained.

The Creator7
Oct 26, 2023
A well fleshed out futurescape with a constantly moving story and a few plot twists. Overall a good one-off sci-fi film (reminded me of Children of Men and District 9), but I struggled with the emotionally driven main character and was never able to agree with and become vested in him and his motives. Definitely worth a watch.

Dumb Money6

An entertaining story about an event I knew nothing about. The film is about as well done as one could expect given its benign topic and the filmmaker's focus on telling the story from the "everyman" perspective.

This movie was about 1.5 hours longer than it needed to be. The storyline was good, but dragged on in parts where it was unnecessary. I also struggled at times due to the way it jumped around in time.

Barbie1
Sep 5, 2023
One of the worst films I've seen in recent years. There was a valuable message in how hard it is to be a woman in American society today, but the film failed in all other respects. I almost walked out part way through, but decided to stick it out to find out what all the fuss was about. Turns out, it was just hype.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem7
Sep 5, 2023
I loved the art style, and the film was about exactly what I expected. No surprises, but the final portion of the plot was all too familiar from the dozens of super-hero movies I've seen over the past two decades, so nothing terribly creative on that front either.
