A very solid comedy with plenty of laugh out loud moments and just enough drama. There are some very funny characters here played by good actors. I almost wish it was longer, so I could see what else they could come up with.
Alexander Payne is a very skilled director. His ability to bring ordinary, but lively characters to life in a moving and funny way is excellent. He truly makes the setting of Hawaii feel like a character all own its own.
A truly fantastic film. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are absolutely wonderful in their roles. They have great chemistry, and on top of that they are great singers. The music and drama are great.
An indisputable classic. An epic tale of the mafia that is intense, funny, entertaining, and acted fantastically. The dialogue, the music, everything is just near perfect.
A total disaster of a film. It is wildly incoherent, preachy, and just not interesting in the slightest. The characters were not likable, and it wasn't even funny.
This a well made, nicely acted movie. Blanchett & Mara are captivating on screen, and the movie is visually appealing. It is wonderfully accurate to the time period.
There is the making **** movie here, but the story just isn't that interesting. I'm bored of the story of Steve Jobs. Yes, the acting is good, but it doesn't leave much of an impression.
It is a shame that this movie is horribly long, because the characters are interesting and the story is decent. It is so self indulgent and does not warrant its ridiculous length.
The movie starts with incredible intensity, slows down a bit, and then finishes strong. Emily Blunt is fantastic and has unfortunately gone unnoticed this awards season. Impressive score also.
Undoubtedly, one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen. The cinematography was beyond spectacular. This story of survival and revenge is intense, bold, and completely original. This is great filmmaking.
As a cast, this is one of the best acted movies of the year. Everyone was fantastic and worthy of attention. The story and drama is great, and the music only elevates the film even more.
A solid movie. It was funny and engaging, while also having just the right amount of quiet moments. It flows with ease. The acting was good and the characters were likable.
Surprisingly, Ted 2 is better than the first one. The characters are more likable this time around, and it was consistently funnier. It is a pretty silly storyline, but with a movie with a talking teddy bear, that is what I expect.
The Maze Runner was decent despite it being rather incoherent. This movie is just plain boring and generic. The characters are completely forgettable. The movie had its lively moments, but as a series this is a major step down.
The film is terrific because Spielberg has crafted a film with classic filmmaking, clear storytelling, and great actors. It is one of the best movies of the year.
Star Wars is very imaginative with fascinating likable characters. The story is simple, and that is what I like about it. It doesn't try to over complicate things. It runs just a little too long with repetitive looking action sequences.
Joy is enjoyable and moves with ease under David O's direction. It isn't among his best work, but is still a nice story with yet another very strong performance by Jennifer Lawrence at the center of it.
"Room" delivers strong on all fronts from beginning to end. It is intimate and emotional. The movie is guided by two terrific performances that are among the best of the year.
It is not surprising that critics are going gaga over a movie that 1) bashes the church and 2) is about how important journalists are. The movie is fine, but that is all it is. It is absurd to think that this forgettable, anticlimactic movie is a masterpiece. Script, acting, and directing are nothing special.
This movie is filled with interesting characters played by good actors. The directing has a nice throwback style to it that is refreshing. While the movie is pleasant, it is also a little forgettable.
A few well designed and shot action scenes is the only thing that saves this tedious film. There is no real tension and I have no investment in these uninspiring characters.
This is more nonsense. Marvel keeps rehashing the same garbage. The actors are likable enough, but they can't help this overlong silly movie. People will defend anything Marvel puts out, but I won't. It was boring.
The movie is decent and pretty straightforward. The premise works well for the most part. However, there isn't really anything special about it that makes this movie stand out.
Amy Schumer is quite impressive, not only as an actress but as a screenwriter. She balances her brand of comedy with drama very well. She is supported by an excellent, funny supporting cast.
The movie is at its best when Arnold is at the center. The movie is not bad, but it becomes too confusing with all the time travel. Still, the action was good.
Jurassic World might not be a rule bending blockbuster, but it is still thoroughly entertaining. A great visual treat with a very likable cast. It is hard not to enjoy the movie.
A spectacular conclusion to this amazing series. Francis Lawrence handles every detail with care and truly understands and respects the fans of these books. Emotional, action packed, thoughtful, grim, and real.
Nebraska gets everything right, and it comes together to make a funny tender film. A simple movie of simple folks. From the cinematography, acting, and the decision to make it black and white made it one of the best films of the year.
Weird on every level, but that is what made it truely what it was. This remake is far better than the first crappy one. Depp was great and was such a lively character. Burton thought this one out well. Collapse
This is pure entertainment. It was captivating and mysterious. It was fun and adventurous. The acting by the young cast was fantastic and the directing style and script reminded me of what great movies can really achieve.
A wonderfully entertaining movie. A very funny script with so many diverse characters. They all come together and shine in their performances. Just flat out enjoyable.
A very entertaining movie that is consistently hilarious and sometimes a beautiful spectacle. Really enjoyed all the cast, and is just a great film in which you never knew what was coming next.
A visually stunning film that is elevated by its enchanting score and story that can be enjoyed by all ages. It was a different kind of Disney movie that still stands up after all these years.
This psychological thriller has talented actors playing layered, complex characters. The script relied on actual tension without gratuitous violence, which was quite unique.
This is a terrible movie from start to finish. When Kevin James is the president of America, you know there is something wrong. It is boring, and the visuals are a mess for the eyes.
Inside out is the most creative and original movie I have seen this year. It was refreshing to see a movie that was this imaginative, but also had elements that can be enjoyed by all ages.
It is one of the better made comedies I have seen lately. The movie is long, but with funny actors bringing their A game, it never fails to keep you entertained.
The movie has an entertaining concept and lively characters, but it tends to be on the preachy side. The last half hour gets muddled in confusing space lingo, and I lost some interest.
Cinderella hits all the marks. It has big production, a lively score, and likable characters that make this an enjoyable movie for all ages. It was pretty much exactly as I expected.
One of the most overrated movies ever. On a technical level it is impressive, however, the story and characters are so thin. The action is great for about 10 minutes and then it becomes uninteresting. The movie had its moments, but in the end I can't possibly understand why everyone seems to love it.
Strangerland had potential with its interesting setting and good actors. However, the movie is completely unsatisfying because nothing gets resolved. In fact, I'm pretty sure nothing happens at all.
The movie is like one long action sequence that is incredibly boring. I have zero investment in the characters and the movie has far too many visual elements which makes everything look phony. It is as bad as anything Michael Bay has put out.
There are stretches of painfully boring silence, but the movie really starts picking up in the second half. It was good to see Arnold in something different, however, this movie belongs to Abigail Breslin. Not your typical mindless zombie film.
I fail to see what is so horrible about the film. If anything, It completely surpassed my expectations. I found it lighthearted and entertaining, which is what the movie was going for.
A well made movie that has some great atmosphere. The movie is about artificial intelligence, but I actually found the humans just as interesting. It is visually wonderful and has strong performances.
The talented cast and the great setting of Hawaii are wasted on a story that is neither dramatic nor funny. Above all, it just isn't interesting. The script was a mess.
Very stupid, disjointed movie. The screenplay was all over the place, but it was consistently bad. It is a reasonably good premise that never lives up to its potential.
How could such talented people in front of and behind the camera be responsible for such an underwhelming film? It boggles me that this is the same director of Lord of the Rings. There is no story, expect for a bunch of video game action scenes that are bad.
An extremely pretentious film. There are stupid showy monologues accompanied by the most annoying score I have ever heard. Some might say it is an artistic masterpiece, but I say it is a manic mess, especially for a best picture movie.
Mark Wahlberg was good, even though his character was rambling most of the time. In fact, the entire movie seemed to be rambling about nonsense most of the time. However, there was tension and it did have some entertaining scenes.
