Good mechanics in shooting, but the game gets samey rather quick. Same enemies and assets over and over. The further in the game, the more it turns into a wave shooter instead of a story driven FPS. Developers are eager to call something on the floor that is a little bit tucked away, a "secret found". Item and weapon progression is in fact duplicated. 2 branches which in all but visual are the same. One in the standard bullets version, the other electrical/beam weapons. Both do almost exactly the same until an upgrade changes the basic working principle ****. For example there's a grenade launcher (bullets) and a mortar (electrical). Both have the same effect: one an explosion that affects multiple enemies and assets and the other an electrical ball which does the same only visually different (branching lightning). A shotgun and a blaster (branching lightning straight out of the gun). You get the idea. The story itself is weird and makes unexpected jumps which cut out important pieces. I stopped playing after level 5.

I've already spent waaayyy too much time in this game, so in high contrast. I'll keep this short. The grind in this game is beyond aggrevating. it's obnoxious. This is a game for masochists. I want to like it as it is surely enjoyable at first and it would stay so if the grinding would be at acceptable levels. Spoiler: it isn"t. GK desperately needs an overhaul and quality of life cheats. On PC there are extensive trainer programs - which are a necessity = but on console you're buggered.... Stay clear

The lack of decent aiming mechanics is on itself already enough to stop playing this game. And that is truly unfortunate, because I would really like to like this game. I find the visuals to be great. They are just like some comic books I read when younger. This game needs the following: a dedicated melee button, distinction between between taking new cover and just vaulting over the one you're at. Better registration when you want to ignite the lamps. But above all the aiming needs to be fixed. The twin stick mechanic that is used is implemeted just as it would be in a bullet hell action shooter. That does not work in this game. It needs a lock on and more forgiving aim. As it is now, the game does not give you the tools to defeat the baddies in a fluid manner.

A 10 to counter the 0-bombs. Once the 0-bombs dissapear, I'll take this review and 10 score down to it's correct score of 8. I am adamant that 0-bombing games for other reasons than the quality of the game itself should be halted. The only way I can contribute to that is by doing the same thing but at the other side of the scale. metacritic's score system is dumb as well. Many, many games stay without score because they don't reach the necessary 4 reviews. This makes quick valueing **** impossible. Changes that need to be made:- -Show the score from the get-go! -Make a written review mandatory for scores from 9 and up and certainly from 3 and down! Unless changes in the scoring system are made, sites like Metacritic will become untrustworthy and useless. One could certainly argue that that moment has already happened On the game itself: why do almost all recent games ship with an open world? What's wrong with a more linear game? Uncharted was one. It was good. Doom was one. It was great. I read here people **** on the simple or absent story and at the same time shouting themselves hoarse that the action is narrativly interupted. Sigh... game reviews, by critics or users -hey everybody's a critic for the last 6 years already- have lost all merit. Rage 2 getting 70-ish and block pixel games or walking simulators getting 90-ish just because they're "stylish"?? Doling out zero's because the kiddies bear a grudge? Or because it's all the rage (haha) to do so? Yeah, lost all merit.

If you'd look up "grindfest" in, well, anything, you should see Everspace written allover. Because that's what it is. A tedious and enervating grind. From start to finish. Not that you will reach the finish. Ever. At first I thought it was me who was just bad at this game. But after dying numerous times, I'm certain it's the game that is broken. Now the idea of the game is that you should die plenty and often and that whatever little progress you made is carried over to your next spaceship. But that progress is negligible and you never get anywhere near a decent build. And the actions you take/perform are always the same. So those characteristics combined make it a very tedious grindfest that does not get you anywhere. Gameplay is a little more elaborate than what I've written here, but not much. The game is pretty, but in a sparse way. I wanted to like this game so much, but I cannot recommend this to anyone.

The mechanics are very easy to understand and never is the puzzle put before you in any way abstract. All puzzles are of the logic -this then that- type without much, or any, out of the box thinking. As a result the puzzles are on the easy side of things. Only twice I had absolutely no clue as to which approach was needed. Luckily such moments can be skipped and the next puzzle is then presented. I have no idea how often this can be done, as I only needed it twice in the entire game. It can of course be used to skip a momentarily insurmountable hurdle so to come back to that puzzle at a later time. All completed and skipped puzzles are accessible from the menu, but not the ones further in game. In all the puzzles are extremely straightforward and entail at max two logic steps in sequence or simultaneous to solve. The greatest merit in this game lies in that exact fact: no obscure or abstract steps are present and even young children can tackle the game. For clever people, there is not much challenge. Graphics wise it is is just above 16-bit grade and the only interactive component is the puzzle box itself.

Allthough SN is a gripping experience (I've been playing preview since February 2018) the enormous amount of bugs and performance issues take the whole game down. Immersion is constantly and completely broken due to those 2. Still I keep on playing. I want this game to be good so much. But alas the developer chose to put their time into DLC (and the broken PS4 port) instead of fixing the problems. Without the issues, I would gladly score it 8.5.

Awful camera and camera control, non tweakable. Strange button layout without the possibility to change it. Aiming starts at ground level and is slow.... These are some of the game's design choices which make you want to stop playing. You just can't tailor the gameplay to even near to what you'd like. It all makes the adventuring a chore instead of fun. Nice visuals and fisticuffs (just like Batman) though.

It's a grind. Plain and simple, a grind. Not a game, not a survival exercise. But a tedious, mind-numbing and overall baffling grind. From the get-go you are faced with a lack of inventory space. Resources are needed for shields, suits, engines etc. And everything gets depleted real quick. All items need different resources to be recharged. Couple this with an inventory that is too small already from the first minutes of the game and you understand what your mission is. Instead of No man's sky, it should have been named 'Everybody's Grind'.

Amusing and microscopically intriguing. But no way is this worth it's asking price. Girls will like this game a bit more. I would say it's worth paying 2 euro. And only if you like slow going games. I cannot understand why this got high marks from critics. Maybe because they fantasised about lesbian love?
