Don't Worry Darling1

Stylishly shot and a wonderful Pugh were the only things to keep it barely afloat. Too many “borrowed” inspirations. Felt like Westworld meets Stepford Wives meets an old Twilight Zone episode. But never reaching close to those in story, or originality. Wilde has a long way to go and a lot to learn. For now her short “home movie” is more satisfying than this.

Great performance by Edgar Jones. Beautifully shot. Love the book and story too. Biggest issue for me was i feel could’ve been a lot better if directed by someone else. Stylish but somehow empty, and dragging. A different more deft director could’ve taken the book content and made it a brilliant movie.

starts off intriguing and different. i was enticed about halfway through. then the movie just loses its grip with me. normally like Peele’s content, style and storytelling. but what starts as promising floats away as bad. by the end i thought it was terrible on most fronts. hope his next one is better!

Much better than a typical comic book movie in that it delves into the human psyche of madness and the slow descent of Arthur. A refreshing take on the genre. A really well done movie in many ways. I wish more of these characters had a back story looking into what their mindset was as they transformed into what we know them to be today.

The movie was tense, and gorgeously shot, but with so many limitations. I see where Mendes was going with this, in the way of wanting the viewer to see art, and the tension accomplished with the one long take. The problem is the long single shot approach here, can be exhausting, and not particularly enjoyable with this narrative. Great performances by the two young boys. But again, the development of the characters was minimal. I found myself just wanting it to be over, and not caring about them much. Lastly, for a war time movie, it was actually boring. Not enough to keep the viewer engaged. I witnessed many in the theater squirming and getting restless. Not exactly the reaction I'd expect. Overall a good movie that I wanted to be great. In the end I found myself looking for a "Saving Private Ryan" or "The Thin Red Line" type of movie.
