This film comes close to being a four or even five-star film, but what keeps it from achieving that status is the Simon Oakland psychiatrist character. His oration is not only a complete waste of time, but it insults the intelligence of the rest of the film, preventing it from achieving true greatness. If only his character and his scene had been cut.

If director James Cameron had concentrated on his thesis -- that the sailing of the Titanic basically marked the transition from 19th Century ideas of classism to 20th Century notions of egalitarianism -- and had ignored the boring love story, this could have been a far more impactful feature.

The plot is incomprehensible and the screenplay ludicrous, but what makes this film special is its mechanics -- the jaw-dropping special and visual effects, the cinematography and director Nolan's adept pacing that makes a two-hour, 30 minute film seems less than half that long.

The perfect allegory for what it's like living in a suburban subdivision during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bening and Walters are superb in an otherwide depressing account of the last two years in the life of Academy Award-winning actress Gloria Grahame. The film glosses over the more unsavory aspects of Grahame's life, particularly her marriage to her stepson whom she first went to bed with when he was 13 and she was still married to his father as well as one of my favorite bits of Grahame trivia -- she held the record for the briefest amount of screen time for any Oscar-winning role until Beatrice Straight broke it almost a quarter of a century later. There's not a lot here to compel someone to seek out this film.

An expertly crafted, atmospheric, noir-type thriller which is aided tremendously by an economic running time.

The scenes featuring Christopher Plummer as J. Paul Getty are compelling -- he is easily the best thing about this film. The scenes without him are a crashing bore.

Writer-director Aaron Sorkin and actors Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner prove that dialogue, especially as well-written and delivered as it is here, can propel a film forward just as easily as plot and more enjoyably than special effects.

Too long -- the movie wears out its welcome around the 90-minute mark. Some of the set pieces don't work and why are Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum even in this movie? Julianne Moore, however, is a delightful psychopath.
