Metroidvania style indie game with bland visuals trying to go retro but lacking in personality. Exploration, powerups, and pacing, just not as much fun as other superior games in the genre. Also the music was forgettable. Only play this if you are out of other Metroidvanias to play, this is not one of the better games in the genre.

Bayonetta 28
Sep 6, 2019
Really good action game with over the top sexualized main character that may offend some or seem juvenile, but its a good game. I don't think it ever gets better than the first level where Bayonetta ends up fighting on top of a jet flying over a city where her shopping was interrupted, then fights a demon on the side of a ****. The game is good throughout, but climaxed in the first level? ;-)

Xenoblade Chronicles X9

I will point out I did not think this game was as good as Xenoblade Chronicles in that the music while good was a bit odd where XC1 was one of the best OST's ever. Also story in this game takes a back seat to exploration, where XC1 balanced the two better. But I will say the exploration is fantastic and the world is as good as any world in any game. Sidequests can be tedious, the menus can be hard to see at times, but there is sooooo much packed into this game, you can play it for hundreds of hours and still find new stuff. I wasn't crazy about the gun play mixed with melee combat at first, but it grew on me. It is an active time battle system made to look like real time. I liked getting the Skels, but it took me over 30 hours to get one! But the game's exploration really opens up when you get a Skel. Very different from XC1 or XC2, but if its just a spin-off, its a really good spin-off that some may like even more than the main series? I prefer the main series, but this is an excellent game too.

Yoshi's Woolly World9
Sep 6, 2019
This game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but might just be a perfect 2D style platformer? I mean I loved Yoshi's Island, didn't even mind the crying Mario, but this game surpasses that classic in many ways. The collect-a-thon for completionists in unlocking new levels is executed much better than Yoshi's Island. Controls are perfect, levels are imaginative where each stands out, not even sure they use the same mucic twice in any level? Music is really good, the wool art design is great, and I really can't point to any flaws for this style of game? Other than it is one of the oldest genres, so most ideas have been done before, but everything is done so well here. Very few 2D style platformers that I can honestly say I enjoyed more, its a great representation of the genre that checks every box while being a lot of fun with perfectly balanced challenge to unlock the hidden levels and beat them where the real challenge comes in.

I don't want to put spoilers if you don't already know about the combat or the choice of combat, but I felt the concept with numerous endings depending on how one plays the game was brilliant! But it is a game that is only a few hours long, has a useless inventory system, and was I the only one creeped out by the some of the characters wanting to date the main character? I know its an indie game, it has great music, a simple yet engaging story, and completely original gameplay/storytelling, but I just wished for more in this limited world? I get making the game short encourages numerous playthroughs to see different endings and play the game differently, but you may have to do everything perfect in every minute of the game or not get the ending you want.

I know some will say this game was incomplete and know the whole Kojima backstory, but I don't care. I loved the gameplay. Past MGS games were all about stealth and often were forced to do stealth or die. This game focuses on stealth too like any MGS game, but you can tackle enemies in a multitude of ways even engaging them in combat first at times. So it is a breath of fresh air in that you have a lot more freedom in how you take on enemies in this game. I loved it.

I really wanted to like this game. I was sold on the attitude, the look, and the gameplay looked interesting. But the game quickly became a repetitive slog. Its not that its terrible, just think that its another over the top zombie apocalypse style game, but throws in some almost Tony Hawk-esque hybrid gameplay that gets really old really fast. Thought the cutscenes were kind of funny though.

Ori and the Blind Forest5
Sep 6, 2019
I liked the art design, the way the game tells the story through its animations/artwork rather than long winded cutscenes, reminiscent of when games had to do storytelling like that like Super metroid back in the 90's. So it is sort of like a Metroidvania game, but I didn't care for the limited combat, arrow pointing jump mechanics, and I think the way exploration was done was more tedious than fun at times being too linear where it gives the illusion **** that is more open. I mean modern game that might be considered of the same genre with similar art design/storytelling, but nails gameplay and exploration way better, Hollow knight. So I would say ori is mediocre with some good presentation but lacking in more engaging gameplay and exploration for this type of game

Super Mario Odyssey8

Good Mario game that could be called Mario 64 Part 2. Basically it plays more like that classic N64 game than any other 3D Mario game that has come out since and is a worthy sequel. I prefer Super Mario Galaxy on rails level design to the Mario 64 go anywhere level design while exploring to find a star/moon piece/shine, whatever. Very good game overall, but the Cappie possession gameplay mechanic was not my favorite, some may like it more? Also not a fan of the Mario hat attack in like a motion control move? Either make it motion control or don't! Galaxy games implemented motion controls well where it mixed traditional Mario gameplay with limited motion controls, but this game makes one of the main offensive moves a motion control option in a game that mostly doesn't use motion controls? Why? Either do it right or just leave it out altogether. Maybe I am nitpicking, it is a good game, just nowhere near the best of the series.

Best turn based RPG I have played probably since Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the US). It has that old school RPG look and feel and pulls it off as well as possible. Music is really good, the 8 characters each have interesting individual stories, love the art design and look of the game, perfect for portable play also. If you like old school turn based RPG's that harken back to a bygone era of SNES and PS1 classics, don't miss out on this one, its fantastic!

When I heard this game would be done in seasons with DLC, I was a bit disappointed in that it seemed like a shameless cash grab. But after 3 seasons of fighters, gameplay tweaks, good online play, and a really in depth fighting system with excellent tutorials, I would go as far as to say this game is my favorite fighter of this console generation. I mean I would definitely recommend this game over Smash ultimate, SFV, MKX, MK11, or or the new samurai shodown. Its not the best fighter of all time, just the best of this generation.

Okami HD10
Sep 6, 2019
This game has been on PS2, Wii, PS3, Switch, PS4, XB1. It is basically the best Zelda clone there has ever been. I mean that as the highest compliment in that most Zelda games are fantastic, often getting Game of the Year consideration. Okami is lighter on challenge, its puzzles are easier, the combat is simple, it more the exploration and the journey where it matches the very best Zelda games. I mean I wouldn't quite put it up there with Ocarina of time, wind waker, or breath of the Wild, but it is good enough to be compared to some truly great zelda games tells you all you need to know. Also I liked the Japanese folklore the game has along with an interesting story, timeless art design, and great music, this game is great. The celestial brush gameplay and combat is different enough where it stands on its own, rather than zelda games that are generally melee weapons

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt10

Never even heard of the witcher before this game, had absolutely no interest in playing it, but all the hype and great reviews, I gave it a chance. I am so thoroughly impressed with this game, I might go as far to call it the best game of this decade, perhaps any decade? I mean for me, my 3 favorites of this decade are Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, and Witcher 3. Not sure what order, but I will say, witcher 3 has the best sidequests I have ever seen in any game ever made. Sidequests are like full length storylines themselves! The areas explored White orchard, Velen, and Ard Skellige are incredible environments. The lore is every bit as good as Lord of the rings, game of thrones, or Star wars. The cutscenes are brilliant, the music is really good, the gameplay is not overly complicated but fun, and the DLC is the best I have ever seen any game get. One of the few games where DLC is done right and not a cash grab rippoff. I mean the Hearts of stone and blood and Wine packs could have been witcher 4, but they treated us to a masterpiece **** that is difficult for any game to match. A masterpiece. .

One of the absolute best games I have ever played in any generation. I realize the combat might not be for everyone in a strange active time battle gameplay that is made to look like real time, but if you give that a chance and learn the combat, you are in for a RPG experience few have ever come close to matching. Also this game has perhaps the most interesting world I have ever seen with diverse environments on the backs of dead titans, possible my favorite OST in gaming history (it is THAT good!), and one helluva storyline that was paced so well in a game that could take 100+ hours to finish. The graphics are limited on the wii, but the art design and worlds are still incredible.

Open world games are a dime a dozen these days, so getting one to stand out is tough. HZD does, I really enjoy the bow and arrow combat, beautiful open world, storyline, taking control of the creatures in the game, stealth gameplay, exploration, sidequests, music, game has it all. It came out around when Zelda Breath of the Wild came out which is yet another great open world game, so some may have overlooked this great game. I think its up there with the best Playstation exclusives of all time. It is really that good.

Red Dead Redemption 27
Sep 6, 2019
Some of the best graphics I have ever seen at the time of writing this, great open world that seems alive, good storyline, so why only a 7? Well, I was a bit bored at times and many sidequests were tedious. Dutch's gang while interesting, I didn't want to to be tethered to them, which I felt like I was through a large enough portion of the game. Also its more of the same in gameplay from Red Dead Redemption, which is fine, but I was more impressed with RDR1 at the time it came out where all these things seemed more new and interesting. This is a bigger, prettier new game, but it doesn't do enough for me to be an all time great game, where the fist RDR just wowed me more at the time.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night9
Sep 6, 2019
The game did crash on me a handful of times, but it also provided a couple of dozen hours of fun Castlevania style gameplay. It might not be quite as good looking as on other platforms, but is adequate, but it is portable, so there is that. If I were to compare it to other Castlevania/Metroid style games, its nowhere near as good as venerable classics like Symphony of the Night or Super Metroid, but those games are the apex of the genre. I would say it compares favorably to any other similar game other than those two. If you like this style of game, its definitely worth getting. I know there is talk of patches, but overall a few crashes isn't all that bad for such an excellent games

Collection of Mana8
Sep 6, 2019
A bit pricey for 3 very old games, but I never played Trials of Mana as an American gamer and it is really good. The other two games, Final Fantasy Legend and Secret of Mana are good action/adventure Zelda style games, that are nostalgia trips for me. For old school gamers like me, worth it today, younger gamers, maybe wait for a price drop. Good 3 games though.

I remember the arcade game and the hype between home console versions attempting to look anywhere near as good as the arcade game. This is the definitive version **** that came out in the 90's. Yeah, it could use more tracks, but if you liked the 90's arcade racer that was cutting edge back then (as I do), its worth getting at a reasonable price. Younger gamers don't have that nostalgia and might not appreciate it stacked up against modern racing games with a lot more content and far superior visuals.

Not sure its the absolute best FE game ever, but its in the discussion. Kind of miss the character breeding in recent FE games, but the hub world in this one is interesting as sort of something out of Harry Potter. Never really got used to the Gambits, would forget I could use them, but its an interesting new mechanic. This FE game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but tweaks it, I mostly really like what they have done, but some longtime fans might say past games were somehow better or more challenging.
