That the other swan song titles will have better scores is painful given that people just look at the green number and go with that as their research. Meaning, people will think TLOU is 10 points higher than this and that's simply not the truth of it. Tsushima's not perfect but it's the closest thing you'll find to it this year on the PS4. Some gameplay aspects irked me (finding stuff, following tracks, etc) and that's basically it for my negatives. I watched Seven Samurai again because of the hype this game had me feeling the whole time. It's a **** Punch game, through and through - if you liked inFamous: Festival of Blood and bought a Sly Cooper beanie once, you'll know if you already like Ghost of Tsushima so I'm biased in that I've always enjoyed all the good stuff these guys make. Watch a letsplay from Act I and if it looks cool to you, just straight up buy it.

Quantum Break

The perfect example to use when saying something is "good, not great." It's absolutely gorgeous to look at and the concept is awesome. And who better than Remedy and Sam Lake to dabble in something TV-related? However, the time-writing is so time-bland, like a sci-fi show on the USA Network with lame acting and a camera guy who gets right up on you. If they were going for cliches and Nissan advertisements, they nailed it, but a mediocre television show isn't a game. The actual guts of Quantum Break are almost more of a letdown when you consider the theme of the game is time travel. We could've gotten awesome puzzles and more daring editing with the fractured timeline stuff and perhaps new mechanics or scenes that really highlight that what you're doing is time stuff, not just a samey and uninspiring third-person shooter where your cardboard cutout protagonist sluggishly non-walks or non-runs around, bumping into time things... It's not very long either so you're left with the feeling that you just dealt with bad prime-time cable TV and ran around shooting at big dudes and all you have to show for it is a bevy of very easy achievements and a dilemma of how you can wring more from the game to justify paying anything over $40 for it. Wait for a sale or rent it if such a thing is still possible.

Hitman - Intro Pack

As a Hitman game, it's not bad. In fact, it's fun and creative, which is all we wanted after Absolution. However, I can't in good conscience recommend it as it is. the $15 intro and $50 upgrade pack confirm why they've chosen to go this route; they can and will make more money by chopping the game up into pieces and forcing a digital-only model until the disc arrives NEXT year. I don't abide by this one bit. That $15 intro pack carries with it a single mission, btw. The prologue is simply the beta tutorial. And if the one stage you get, which while lovely is still one map, is that short, the remaining cities 47 is scheduled to visit already seem like not enough for (more than) $60. It's like they said "you wanted Blood Money, well, here's half of that and we'll charge you more for it as we roll out segments." Despicable.

For the price of 2 movie tickets, you get the kind of utility associated with 3 really good movies with popcorn included. Yes, there's more gwent and awesome side quests and the map itself got larger but, like the base game, the characters and lore make it so wonderful. It's been a very long time since I've been as creeped out by a character and concerned for another. Not to mention one of the best single-map quests I've experienced since the Ocean House in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Runaway Train

The "run around from A to B while we time you" missions have always been terrible and this is no better. If anything, I resent it for being included in the first place. For no reason at all, your train requires you to run around it putting out magically self-motivated fires while the conductor keeps the train moving, just yelling at you... Syndicate's loaded with a lot of the kinds of stuff we hated about previous titles in the AC series but the game as a whole isn't that. However, if you play a mission like this, it's hard not to feel ripped off. Yeah, it was 'free' but your time investment should be reimbursed.

Destiny's fanbase is proof that hype is all you need. If EA made this, you'd all give it 0-3 ratings but it's got Bungie's name on it so it's the best thing since sliced bread? Hypocrisy. Dinklage phones all of his lines, the writing is abhorrent, the gameplay itself is a blander, slower Borderlands and there's zero replay value outside of PVP, which should've been the prime focus given the developer's previous work. You can't just give it a 10 because they spent half a billion dollars on it. That kind of money is how much it cost (in today's dollars) to build the FBI. Are you telling me Destiny is on par with that kind of investment? If so, you'll need more than "it's got loot and shooting" to justify that. "Oh no, the Vex/Hive/Cabal/Fallen are coming for the Dark Shrike Sword Boneslayer Thing, let's shoot at them." That's the whole game.

$5 for one of the greatest games of all time? Join me in feeling like a thief for having to pay so little to gain so much. When was the last time you put on a little Toejam and Earl, used icarus wings to fly over to level 0 and chill in the hot tub? Don't think that this game has aged poorly because it hasn't. The music is still top-notch and the rougelike-with-presents gameplay is still as fun as it ever was.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard

Pros: It's more Skyrim. There's some cool armor, a hot new follower, more fights to get into, incentive to level up your character some more. Cons: Falmer ruins, fetch quests, terrible story, bugs, the penultimate quest in which you have to get a bow (don't know why I'm trying to avoid spoilers for this) is the worst most-time consuming lackluster mission I've played in a video game in years, $20 for only $8.50 worth of real content. Summation: Butts.

I'm surprised the user review average is this high and the critic review average is that low. This is usually the kind of game, part of a large series or not, that divides people completely. On the one hand, it's beautiful and cinematic and the story/characters feel fantastic. On the other hand, what a dreadful gameplay experience. If you think ACIII is going to be amazing because the past titles were done well enough and you were promised something better, don't feel bad as we all bought the hype. However, Resident Evil 6 was proof that even a high-budget AAA title from a company used to making quality titles could go from releasing super good games to "ugh, what is up with the controls and why did I just glitch through that thing and oh god my system is heating up" disasters. And ACIII is no different. Not only have some of the controls been remapped but the style of combat and exploration has also been greatly retooled for the worse. Riding horses is a nightmare, the new lockpicking minigame is a hassle, you have to chase collectibles, gone is the 'low profile' control set, guns have curiously gotten LESS advanced as time has progressed, and stealth seems to be not only completely optional but totally unnecessary except for those pass-or-fail missions where getting caught means a "try again" cutscene that plays into a loading screen. I loved the first 4 AAA titles in the series and I will complete this game as well because I'm a huge fan of the AC universe. But I will tell you right now, I won't enjoy it nearly as much as I was led to believe. I'm quite a ways into it and it just feels... unfinished and lacking in structure. ACII remains the best in the series by far.

Yes, this is a "game" you can use in the video games as art debate since it's about storytelling and you're "playing" this dude's subconscious, listening to his thoughts and suggesting he eat bread or look at his hands. But it's 20 minutes long and about a loner who's obsessed with people having fun without him as he waits for some young girl who's not having it. "But is it art?" Yes. And art is boring.

The first one was great fun and while this game couldn't possibly have lived up to its expectations, it did a good job of failing on its merits. The background designs are bland and annoying, the conversation and morality choices no longer have any variety to them, the graphics glitch out from time to time, and the combat is so dumbed down that it felt like playing Dynasty Warriors: Origins instead. This was supposed to be an RPG?
