As a standalone fantasy film it's uneven. As an adaptation of The Odyssey, it's deeply frustrating. Nolan's The Odyssey has moments of promise, but they're overshadowed by poor creative decisions. The production design—especially the armor, ships, and combat—looks artificial and constantly breaks immersion, while much of the cast struggles to deliver convincing performances. The movie also makes unnecessary changes to Homer's story, including the twin Helena subplot and key alterations to Odysseus's journey, weakening what made the original tale compelling. Its worldbuilding is inconsistent, removing the gods while still relying on supernatural events tied to them, and its portrayal of Odysseus as guilty over winning the Trojan War feels like a modern reinterpretation that misses the essence of the character. In the end, despite a few strong moments, it's a disappointing adaptation that sacrifices coherence and the spirit of the source material.
