Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander
10
User ScoreLhetre
Aug 9, 2017
FYI The content promised is coming tomorrow, August the 8th 2017, under the form of a new version of the game - Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition, free of charge for people already owning this game version. They mostly reworked the UI and reduced the grind, both very much needed improvements. If you like glorious pixel art, turn based combat with buffs and debuffs, some resource gathering and research in a definitely Sci-Fi setting, this game is for you.

Amazing game, so much todo, so much to explore, so much to build. Possibly better than Terraria - advice may vary. PS Look at the date of the reviews, the game has deeply changed as of version 1.7, June 2017, and is still being updated with content.

Bad PC game, no possible strategy because of the limited towers, limited evolution, lack of improvements, lack of variation, slow pace. This is a time waster good for a tablet, of no interest on PC.

An improved version of Gemcraft Labyrinth, tougher, same variety of monsters and lore, smooth interface, atmospheric music and sounds, beating a map is quite a satisfaction and arises the need to come back to beat it at a higher difficulty level. If you like TD, this is one game you need to play.

Grinding and repetitive game play, plenty of mechanics destined to slow down the pace - units recover one health point per turn, you may build one building all over your empire per turn, cost of new units is preposterous, maintenance cost doesn't allow you to have units healing while you fight with fresh units. No glitches but slowdowns at every single mouse click. Do you want to suffer ? This game is made for you.

User reviews here are quite correct on many points, however the developers have improved the game steadily taking out many micromanagement hassle and making a better UI, which means a lot in a 4x game that can last hundreds of turns. As of January 2015 Horizon is on equal footing with MoO2. The random progression of the research (not everybody likes it), the quests and the perks discovered while exploring new planets offer some replayability. I'll give it a solid 7/10 but the passion showed by the developers in improving the game deserves an 8. Seasoned space strategy players will probably be disappointed, but don't be fooled, this a complete 4x game experience.

This was an Ok game when it came out, but it is no longer compatible with Windows Vista / 7 / 8 : - tank tracks do not move - city walls flicker - Tiger tanks have no turret - Shermans jump up and down and overturn while you drive All of this happens on the Steam version.

A little better graphics than its predecessor but even shorter missions and more awkward combat system. Again you'll spend your time waiting for a mission to load or reading the lengthy explanations. The computer voice that should help you in finding your next target speaks only during combat, you will never be able to understand what happens, begin concentrated on the fight while the voice is covered by the explosions.

Nothing more than a demo for the latest nVidia chipset of these days. Very short missions - go there, kill this - you spent more time waiting for the menus to appear than playing. Combat is pointlessly awkward - enemies are flat, you can't hit them from the side. Cartoony character tell you the story, again you will spend more time reading texts than playing. Visuals WERE stunning, that's it.

This game is quite interesting as a train simulation, however a decade old memory leak that has never been resolved will prevent you from playing. This has been well known from wXP and it is still true under w7/8. JoWood forums were full of complaints about the bug, Shame to the developer who left the game in this sorry state. You have been warned.

The game is riddled with mini-games. One of them, hacking computers, is actually impossible if you play with a mouse and keyboard. Thousands of complaints on the internet haven't been enough to change this mini-game which was created for consoles. Don't buy this game if you haven't a controller. You've been warned.

Nice graphics, good ideas for the units, end of positive points. Interface is clunky, you have to guess things out. Descriptions of the cards don't give you enough information. Animations during the combat phases slow down an already extremely slow game - the AI takes forever to move one card. Goals are impossible to reach because each map is timed and the AI cheats on everything - they can slay five of your units with the weakest of theirs. Maps are thought as bottlenecks : only one strategy, only one direction to go. A frustrating experience I'd recommend only to my worst enemies.

Deus Ex: Invisible War
4
User ScoreLhetre
Apr 5, 2014
Not as rich as the first Deus Ex, it still offers some variety as you have offers from the three factions struggling for power. Weapons are underwhelming, but the main defects come from the bad console port : small levels, clunky combat, ridiculous inventory, uninteresting and useless biomods. DEIW keeps some interest thanks to its good sci-fi story, albeit shallow compared to the preceding game. The game is unstable on modern systems (Windows 7, 8) you may never be able to finish it.

Hard Truck: Apocalypse

User ScoreLhetre

Entertaining game where you drive a truck, follow a series of missions through different environments, fight other trucks, and trade your way to buy a more powerful truck. Dogfight is quite well done, pirates will storm you if you pass through their territory. Missions are varied and some are even humorous. You repair you truck in towns, where you will also be able to find new and improved parts, accept missions, and do the indispensable trade. This game has enormous potential, the main idea is solid gold, but it lacks some polish, mostly form the broken translation which spoils the immersion. All in all this is not a perfect game, but it has in store some surprises and the story is quite coherent. You'll definitely enjoy it. Under Windows 7 the game need some tinkering to work.

A sci-fi turn based game - everything I love. A few complementary unit, bases and resources to conquer. Big problem is the nonexistent AI and the unbalanced campaign. One map is a show stopper, you can't beat it without cheats. Could have been a nice time waster, it's just a poorly developed game.

Combat is the best aspect of this game, a few carefully balanced units that after many battles become extremely strong. Unit tree development is also well thought out. However you need so many battles to make your units strong enough, that you can play with only one army - you won't have the time to train another one. Once and if your army is defeated, you're good to restart the campaign.. Cities are ok, maps are confusing and poorly drawn, even for a 2003 game. Campaign is only a pretext. Maybe MP has an interest, but I'm not into it.

This is a collectible cards game a la Magic the Gathering identical to its predecessor but for a new campaign. Graphics and animations are gorgeous. The different races have unique identity and capacities, allowing for different strategies for each of them. The combat system is solid and quite fun. However the campaign is a complete let down and has no re-playability value. You earn new cards and experice through combat, but the mobs become very hard almost immediately. Mobs do not spawn back, so earning the necessary experience to advance in the (non existent) plot is quite hard. A game worth playing once - to discover its mechanisms and for its beauty. I advise you to buy it on steam for a couple $$.

A nice turn based game with good graphics and apt title. If you want to defeat your enemies you have to destroy the very land you are standing on. The strategic side, while revolving around only one unit and three buildings, depends heavily on the map your are playing. The AI is decent. I would have appreciated a way to accelerate the animations. All in all a solid game for a low budget.
