Flaws: it's heavily combat-focused, and it gets really repetitive over the course of the 30 hour campaign; the story-telling isn't too stellar (poor pacing and not much feeling of the player advancing the plot); and the camera is really annoying, as you'd expect in most 3D DS games. The worst example of the last flaw came with one giant flying boss fight where the target continually moved, had lots of health, and really powerful attacks, which was all the more frustrating in that most magic attacks need perfect aiming, and when you attack with your Keyblade you stay in one spot, so the target's moved after the first hit. Good points: I actually got really into the story and these characters, even if they weren't the deepest or most complex out there. The only reason I persevered through the aforementioned annoying boss-fight was because I wanted to see how the story ended, and I'm glad I did. Also, while repetitive and frequently frustrating, the combat still had just enough satisfaction and fun to it to keep going. I also quite liked the panel system they implemented for switching between different weapons, magic attacks, items, and perks. The extra modes were quite interesting too, in which you can play through previous levels with one of over a dozen different characters, including other Organisation members, Donald, and Goofy. Overall, I found it good, but not great. It was interesting enough for me to see it through to the end, but you'll likely find it incredibly repetitive and more than a bit frustrating.

When I first started playing it, I hated it and found it way too frustrating. I would often fail rooms by taking leaps of faith or falling down unseen holes. But after a few hours, and a few power-ups, I started to enjoy it more and more and ended up finishing it with 100%. It was a bit repetitive and frustrating at times, but the combination of some interesting ideas and a wonderful aesthetic (both in visuals and sound) is always a winner in my book. I suggest waiting for a Steam sale to pick this up; you may be pleasantly surprised.

I only paid around $15 Australian for this, and I certainly got my money's worth. The story and humour aren't stellar, but the visuals and gameplay are the big achievements and more than make up for the other shortcomings. Quite a bit of fun, but it's unlikely to resonate with you afterwards, nor is there any replay value.

I may be biased by nostalgia, as I loved the original PC game as a kid, but I find this mostly enjoyable and I play it every now and then. The controls take a little getting used to, but it's mostly functional. A few things I liked about the original PC release are missing (multiple weapons and the lack of cheats for a start), but it's still all right.

My favourite PSP Mini title. The visuals, music and level design are all great, and you get nearly 200 levels. Sure, there's a bit of repetition, and the story isn't profound (not that it's trying to be), but it's challenging and fun and a you get a lot of value for your money.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box8

If I could give this a 7.5 I would. I love Curious Village and Unwound Future, but this was a slight disappointment. While there are some great mini-games and puzzles, the story's final twist is too silly and requires to big a suspension of disbelief. It was a real let down. It's almost made up for by the oddly charming gimmick of the final puzzle, but not quite. But worst of all are the endlessly repeated "Disappearing Act" puzzles, which I cannot forgive.

My favourite in the Layton series so far, and a relief after the disappointing Diabolical Box. The puzzles are of course good, as is the game design and visual style (as we've come to expect), but what makes this my favourite is the story. It may require a huge suspension of disbelief compared to the first game, but the ending is so striking and emotional. It more than makes up for minor story flaws.

Uneven but overall fun. There are far too many QTEs and the story isn't all that good, but the rest of the gameplay is fun and competently put together, and of course there are lots of cool weapons to mess around with.
