This is a good game but certainly not a masterpiece. The battles are few and far between, and the story and characters are largely uninteresting. The soundtrack is decent but unmemorable. If you have already played Final Fantasy Tactics and are hungry for more, maybe play this game.
This game's got great, likeable characters but a rather weak story. The gameplay is satisfying, but not as deep as Final Fantasy Tactics'. Nice soundtrack, but very repetitive.
A charming and moving visual novel with light gameplay elements. Recommended if you have been in the Philippines before or have an interest in the country.
I don't get all the fuss around this game. I couldn't make it past the first boss and I quit playing, feeling almost relieved. Maybe it's a bit overrated?
When this game came out in 1999 it was a technical marvel, with the most beautiful graphics ever seen in a JRPG. I was 11 years old when I first played it, and the story, characters and gameplay blew my tiny mind. It was a game of many firsts: the first FF with realistic characters, the first to feature a theme song, the first to be centered around a teenage love story, the first with a card mini-game, the first where you could deal more than 9,999 damage with a single hit, the first to be translated in languages other than English and Japanese. In many ways it paved the way for FF X and I will always remember it fondly.
The worst game in the series. Incredibly linear, with barebone gameplay systems, and with a mess of a story. Avoid at all costs unless you are into interactive movies.
I've been playing JRPGs since 1999 and let me tell you, this is a really good game. It's got a killer soundtrack, interesting characters and a simple but addicting gameplay loop. Had it come out for the SNES in the mid-90s, it would have been considered one of the greatest JRPGs of all time along with the likes of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Dragon Quest V. Today it's not as groundbreaking, but I can still wholeheartedly recommend it to fans of the genre. The only reason why I'm giving it a 7 instead of an 8 or higher is that this game has one fatal flaw: once you choose your starting character, they are locked in your party and you can't swap them out. I don't know what the developers were thinking, it is truly bad game design and it forced me to start the game over and choose a different character (if you are in doubt... pick the thief and thank me later).
A great remaster of a decent game. The story doesn't make any sense, but the characters are likeable and the music is BEAUTIFUL. The action combat is serviceable but hardly engrossing.
I would have given the original for PS2 a 7/10, but this remaster makes significant improvements to the gameplay and gets an 8/10 from me. Only the story and characters remain the same: a tad flawed. Worth playing by both fans and newcomers.
Simply the best game in the "series". Graphics, action, atmosphere, setting and difficulty are fine-tuned to perfection in this iteration of the Souls formula.
Fantastic game. The story is full of twists, the characters are believable and you learn a lot about present-day Japan. Great graphics too. The gameplay is a bit repetitive but exploring every nook and cranny of Kamurocho never gets old.
It's an incomplete game and the latter half of the game is clearly unfinished, but it's got the best and most addicting gameplay of any MGS game. A must-play for fans of the series.
One of the best games I've ever played. Amazing story and characters. Don't get fooled by the cartoonish graphics, this is a game made with adults in mind.
Story: good but not great. Characters: mostly good, especially Jill who is one of the best female characters in the series. Gameplay: pretty bad. The game is fairly linear, sidequests are boring and you are limited in what you can do in combat.
I loved the original Demon's Souls for PS3, it was the start of all Soulsborne games and it was genuinely groundbreaking at the time of its release. However it has since been surpassed by the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. This is a very faithful remake, almost to a fault, and replaying the game all these years later I must say it's not as good as I remembered it. Still a solid game though!
This game is linear and there is a lot of boring filler content that simply exists to stretch the lenght of the Midgar section from the original FF VII into a full game. Even so, a lot of content was cut from the original, including in the Shinra Building and Wall Market sections. Frankly, this game is only a must play for those people who never played the original for PS1 and want to experience the whole trilogy of remakes, since it introduces key characters and sets the story in motion; otherwise you might wanna skip straight to Rebirth, which is a better game.
