The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim9

Skyrim is a weird game because there is a lot to dislike but you can't help but love the game. It hasn't aged beautifully gameplay wise and certain play styles are certainly much more efficient that others and you can feel yourself being drawn towards easier methods of play. But the positive vastly out weight the negatives I'm a complete lore fanatic and I credit this game for making me so. The soundtrack is genuinely phenomenal, so good that I would honestly consider dropping my rating by one or maybe two points because it plays such a monumental role in crafting the atmosphere, which is what I consider to be Skyrim's biggest selling point. Sometimes I'll boot up Skyrim but then not really want to play and consider choosing something else but as soon as I hear that menu music, I'm compelled to open a save. The game also has one of, if the greatest modding scenes ever, capable of making an already expansive game even more replayable. A lot of my criticism come from mainly Bethesda and what they've been up to, with multiple re-releases, paid mods and the significant wait for a sequel.

An absolute phenomenon. Baldur's Gate 3 is the greatest game in its genre and up there for one of the greatest games of all time. I was hopeful for possible DLC or a sequel from Larian but they unfortunately announced that they will be moving on from the IP and it is very bittersweet but I cannot complain too much as they have provided us with a truly unique experience that you'll want to revisit numerous times. I foresee myself revisiting Faerûn a lot, as I have done repeatedly since this games release.

Without question one of the greatest games I've ever played, with a world that truly feels alive. Brilliant characters, brilliant setting, phenomenal soundtrack. Has one of, if not the best set of side quests in any RPG ever (but that's not to say that the main quest is bad, it really isn't) and the DLCs do not disappoint in the slightest. Play this game.

Ultimately this game features many of the same issues present in other BGS titles, however, I have been pleasantly surprised by Starfield. The biggest issues for me are the sheer amount of loading screens and the game getting off to a bit of a slow start but positives include better gun gameplay when compared to Fallout 4 & 76, The sidequests I've played thus far feel much more fleshed out compared to previous Bethesda titles, the pick locking and persuasion systems have been improved drastically and whilst I'm not denying that others may have had issues with the game's performance on PC, Starfield has run well for me and I've come across a small number of bugs but nothing even remotely close to game-breaking. But there are clips online which show people having problems getting this game to run well so I don't want you to necessarily take my word for it, I'm just providing you with my experience. I've been very much enjoying the shipbuilding and whilst it is quite janky and can be refined, designing and customising ships is a blast and I'm glad the game allows you to design ships as wacky as you want. The actual ship combat is okay but I've never really been into flying games so I don't feel as though I can give an honest assessment of how good it is. I've not played around with the outpost system too much but I've seen some reviews question the point of building outposts, which is kind of baffling to me considering outposts allow you to passively harvest resources so they do have a usage but even so it's a fun inclusion being able to have a sprawling network of bases across the universe and station followers and let's player get creative, trying to build the most extravagant base. Plus it is nice to have somewhere to decorate with loot and items you've collected in your playthrough. At the end of the day, it's cool, it doesn't need to have a point (even though it does). What grabbed me the most was the world-building, the lore, the characters, and the story. I'm still of the mindset that Bethesda will never be able to top the worldbuilding in the Elder Scrolls but I'm loving it so far in Starfield.
