Heavy Rain

I've been longing for a game that similar with LA Noire. Not the open world aspect, but the investigation, collecting evidence, solving crime and such. A friend recommended me Heavy Rain. Too bad for me, I don't own a console, Playstation 3 for this matter. As soon as this game announced to coming on PC I was excited. But today when I play it, on the first impression all I got is dissapointment. First the game was badly optimized. I have **** tons of games released at 2012 that runs very well at max on my machine. This game, not so much, and it looks uglier than most of the game I had on that period. They could've spend more time optimizing it before releasing on the PC. Second, there're too many chores to do instead of giving the players the good stuffs in front. I mean even LA Noire's first case was pretty interesting. I get it that this was sort of like "tutorial mode" in order to make the player grasp on how to navigate and control the game. But later on you still have some of these chores here and there. I feel like they're just there as a "filler" to make the game much more **** than an interactive movie. This is not a bad game despite those two major flaws. I would say this is the next evolution of point and click adventure games that were popular in the late 80's and early 90's. Or an interactive movie on which story comes first. Still I was hoping for a game that have hyper laser focus on crime solving. I wouldn't mind LA Noire 2, without the open world and driving segments. Or Heavy Rain 2, with much less chores and better pacing. I've looked at Detroit gameplay, it's a much more polished Heavy Rain, and seems it have better pacing. It give you a very interesting first case right on your face earlier on. Maybe I'll give that one a try sometimes in the future. For those who interested in this game, probably better to just skip to Detroit instead.

While everyone was hyped about Tomb Raider, I was playing Drakan religiously. It was like no other, and compared to TR, the controls are FAR better. Also the fantasy theme got me hooked up. The game definitely not perfect and riddled with bugs way back then, the bugs were so bad I couldn't finish the game back then. But there're community patches today that makes the game runs flawless on Windows 10. I got quite far now, and the game is still AMAZING. Think of it as a hack and slash game, but without the locking or dodging mechanism like those found in God of War and DMC. Also there're no skills upgrade, but you can definitely find better equipments. The dragon riding is awesome as well, and feels great. I figure dragon dogfight will be great for multiplayer/LAN party.

Good port, very scalable on PC, even on low end hardware the game is very enjoyable. The loading time is annoying for a quick rapid succession of matches though. Story mode is now follow a single storyline with multiple characters, instead of per character. Arcade mode is shallow, but fighting game is about PVP multiplayer and that's where this game shine the most. The best thing is that the cross over works VERY well; Akuma uses Street Fighter system instead of converted into Tekken's. This has been proven failed on Street Fighter X Tekken, where all the Tekken characters adopt the SF system. Not just that, Akuma is very well balanced too, it's hard to spam the hadoken within the game, you'll need to do close up combos using this character too, but nevertheless Street Fighter player will feel very at home using Akuma. Hopefully they will bring more cross over characters into this game (AFAIK Geese Howard from Fatal Fury is coming).

South Park: The Stick of Truth

The game is highly polished and everything seems to be crafted very carefully to the details. Fans of the series actually will enjoy this game very much. Obsidian did a really great job on interaction/cutscenes, very fluid and seamless. Combat is very enjoyable and if you're JRPG fans, you;ll probably feel at home with its turn-based Final Fantasy-like combat. However, as a WRPG fan, I still enjoy the combat very much. It's like seeing a longer episode of South Park, but you're actually interacting with the world. It is FAR better than the last South Park movie which has a little bit "forced" feel. This game however, delivered EXACTLY what would the fans of the series would expected. And there're tons of unpredictability within this game, and if you're some sort of achievement, perfectionist hunter, this game will keep you busy for awhile. $60 is a bit too much asking price if I may say. It''s very SHORT. Finished it within 2 days (about 20 hours or so) and there aren't much replayability after you finish the game. It's helluva fun "interactive episode" tho. Albeit short.

Pretty good, very simple, enjoyable and I love the theme and the very cute pixelated graphics. Combat is very simple but yet quite satisfying. A fresh change from the all me-too AAA war FPS. Highly recommended.

Tried this on free weekend on Steam. Not a bad game, really. But I doubt this franchise will last long, specially with import (japanese) fighting games which are way much better than this. The characters are obviously too surreal and has no "cool" factor like those in the bigger franchise such as Tekken and SF. They are adorable and sometimes disturbing too. But I admire the creativity. Character roster are too small, compare to KOF XIII (which has released on steam) If you want to go surreal with "cool factor" try Guilty Gear.

It's not an FPS, it's not an adventure, it's an experience, a brand new genre, probably like those in Dear Esther or somekind. I never played those kind of games BTW, but Stanley Parable got great reviews everywhere and it kinda intrigue me, so why not. At first I thought it was something like Portal, but no. Probably the closest comparison to Stanley Parable are text game adventures back in the DOS, or way back to Apple era, where you choose different choices, but now they actually visualize it with Source Engine. One very memorable game I remember was Mickey's Space Adventure. Yep, probably that's the closest comparison. It start of simple, just an ordinary, average 9-5 employee working in his room. Then you choose what to do. The story grows, and grows. It is said that there're tons of possibilities in this game, so far I only found few. And the game actually tickle your curiosity so you will guaranteed coming back for more. It's definitely not for everyone, but the story truly made me think about "choices". Specially choices I made in my real life. And also it's a warm welcome and breath of new fresh air among those popular, mainstream "me too" horror, FPS, war, etc games.

The good : At first watching the trailers, I was skeptical. But now I'm in chapter 4 and I've never had so much fun with latest FPS games like this one. Visceral, gory, beautiful and not taking itself too seriously is how to describe this game. Oldskool level designs and just plain, fast actions everywhere. Also the swordplay is very satisfying. Unlike the original Shadow Warrior on Dos, your katana plays bigger role here, and most of the time it's more fun to use than the firearms. Character progression, upgrades, etc. Giving you the sense of accomplishment when you upgrade your gear and spells. Secrets, secrets everywhere. The Bad : No multiplayer? Oh well, but what do you expect. This game is pure blast anyway. If it's ended up like Rise of the Triad reboot, which has multiplayer slapped in just to for the sake of having multiplayer mode, then it'll be such a waste too. Besides, nobody plays ROTT reboot now. So it's just minor complain. I figure it would be awesome with the sword dueling and fast paced, quake like deathmatch. Lack of optimizations in couple of areas. The framerate got dragged down in several areas. But overall the game is quite smooth. Seems that the particles are very heavy in this game's engine. So I set it to low. Didn't see much difference and the game is still a blast. Hopefully they do further optimizations for this game in form of patches. No over-the-top racist jokes like the original. No funny exaggeratted asian accent, also no nudity hentai like in the original game. Lo Wang lose some of his charms, the comments aren't as funny as the original, but somehow it's still have light racist humors. They should've kept the original Lo Wang's personality. Don't get me wrong, I'm chinese and I love the original game's humor so much I eve lol'ed lots when I play the game. Bottomline is... what are you waiting for? Do yourself a favor... get this game.

Worst SF ever. Not because of crossover between the 2 franchise, **** fact, it alienates both fans of the franchise. I for one, welcome previous crossovers such as Capcom VS SNK or XMen VS SF also Marvel VS Capcom. But this game seems to be confused which direction it want to take. It doesn't have the fast, hectic and combo-chaining gameplay like MVC series. On MVC, Capcom has freedom to create the fighting mechanic and they have gone through XMen series and Marvel superheroes series. They also succeeded better with Capcom VS SNK since both fighters have similar system, but that is not the case with Tekken, both games have totally different game mechanic and Tekken characters play like new SF characters. It won't attract tekken players, and with bunch of alien characters it won't generate much interest from SF players. It would be interesting if only they keep tekken mechanic on the tekken characters but that would cause things like imbalance and such. I guess I'll keep on polishing my SFIV skill instead of this horrible fighter. I do wish they ported MVC 3 on PC instead of this crap.

This is what the gamers said "splitting the community" at its finest. I use to be clueless on what that actually means. So people who don't have B2K can't play with those who have. And until today, I don't see much B2K servers anyway, at least in my region. Kind of redundant. I didn't buy the DLC tho, I had Limited Edition which already come with B2K. Nevertheless, I rarely play B2K maps, Kharg, Metro, Seine Crossing and Firestorm are way much better than B2K maps. But expect these kind of practices from devs/publishers such as DICE, EA, Activision and Infinity Ward/Treyarch to all their future games. Encouraging the Devs doing these kind of practice isn't good idea in the first place. Tripwire interactive with their Killing Floor is the best of how DLCs should be handled. Sell non game changing DLCs and just give in the critical-game changing elements for free. But yet, I don't think EA and Activision really cared much about community since they've raked billions and people would buy their games anyway, whether it's original, fresh idea or just another iteration or expansion pack (MW3) sold as a full blown game.

SP? Yeah it's great game, very brutal and violent. Like Darksiders, but it focuses on firearms and slashing through hoards of orks. The game is very generous in terms of blood too. MP? Pretty good. You'll get unlocks along with your rank ups. If you plyaed CoD or BF3, I'm sure you'll see the big picture. BUT... there's one annoying "known problem" on the pc version. The sound's fcked up regularly, crackling and delayed or echoed. Everything else seems to be allright, but the sound, is really broken. You'll want to play this kind of game with very high volume so you can actually feel the rage and the brutality of the battle, but with that sound problem... not.

It's simple. And "simple" barely translate into "bad". The game really struck me with its simplicity, a bare-bone arcade racer, that is fun, enjoyable, and feels really fast. If you're bored with the latest iterations of NFS, or looking for something that would remind you to games such as screamer and Ridge Racer, or the older (and much more awesome) NFS series Ignite will surely please you. But if you're looking for games within the class of Dirt and Grid, ignite ain't for ya.
