Too many unnecessary VFX, a super cheap arcade mode boss, and a legendary series turned into a gacha-esque game with loads of features and characters locked behind pay walls.

A very solid entry in the hack and slash arena. Gorgeous character design, tense combat, and a great story to boot. Soulstice also features a really cool dual-character mechanic with a fairly robust skill tree for one of the characters with no respec penalties, which is pretty nice when it comes to combat experimentation. Fans of the genre will not want to pass this up!

This game is so clearly unbalanced, repitious, and flat-out boring, yet these fanboys still think it constitutes a near-perfect score. It needs a lot of patches and updates before it even comes close to receiving a score in the green.

Sadly, there are just too many flaws to enjoy the game in it's current state: God-awful bloom, horrible unbalanced difficulty curves, an in-game currency system that forces monotonous replay to unlock new craft, and terrible checkpoints.

Extremely overrated game! Enjoyed playing with the character customization tools more than I did actually playing this miserable game that really wants to be DMC and Souls, but just cannot find a comfortable in-between. Gets insanely boring fast. Hard pass.

Hitbox is insanely too big and there's ZERO hitbox detection. Players are pretty much pinned to the lower 1/3 of the screen due to the fact that enemies will randomly spawn on the top 2/3 of the **** a vertically scrolling shmup on a device with a horizontally wide screen. The Hanako stage feels very unbalanced compared to the other stages, and the final Mee-Sun stage is an absolute joke with this all factored in. The finger or stylus tracking in "One Finger Mode" constantly gets off centered and there is zero calibration. Also, there are also NO continues in ANY of the game modes (including Arcade Mode) and players only have ONE LIFE, so if the player dies at any point in the game they have to go through the entire game all over again; all 8 stages, each with 6 waves. The game isn't incredibly long, but with 8 stages it is too long for this type of game without continues or lives. It gets boring, FAST. I can only recommend playing this for the obvious fan service aspects, and even then I'm sure there are plenty of other options out there...just maybe not on the Switch. HARD, HARD PASS.

Boring and hyper redundant. Feels like a mobile game or demo rather than a full on game. I feel terrible for the poor souls who got **** into buying a physical edition. Really not much more to say.

Carrion

User ScoreElementalSoldie
Jul 27, 2020
In regards to gameplay depth and variety, Carrion is far more simplistic and shallow than I was hoping for. There's a lot of aimless wandering around due to the lack of any sort of map system. I understand that you're this grotesque creature that shouldn't necessarily be holding a paper map in it's meaty folds, but to me this is a missed opportunity to come up with a really innovative way to display some sort of map system based off of "marking your territory" with creature ooze or slime and being able to pick up your own scent or pheromones...essentially creating the map as you go. You're going to be fighting the same human and robot enemies time and time again. The same goes for the puzzles. Gain some creature mass to use an ability, drop some creature mass to use another. Pull a lever, chomp on human snacks, sneak around [or don't]. Rinse, wash, repeat. I like the horror theme, and the fluid control that can come with blasting through areas after they've been cleared out, but that's usually because you're trying to figure out where the heck you need to go and just want to move on. If there were perhaps some intense moments that required speed and fancy foot work to navigate through a labyrinth with flames, acid, or some other hazard, maybe that could have broken up the monotony and added to the tension. However, most of the tension comes from facing elite troops with flamethrowers or sentry robots with machine guns. There's also a really cool animated trailer, but it doesn't appear to be in the game - another missed opportunity to round out the game and provide the user with a little more meaty goodness. I can only recommend this if you're a fan of gore and horror films like John Carpenter's The Thing, Deep Rising, Alien, etc. EDIT: Went back to play a few more hours - thinking I might have overlooked some really cool key component, but unfortunately not. It was just more of the same. :(

YellowLight's review pretty much summed up my issues with this game. It's pretty, but it's just a tiresome errand runner set in a pretty, but very empty world. Oh, and the VO **** for everyone. Feels extremely amateur.

The switch has become a dumping ground for ports. This is just another port with a few very small small bells and whistles. If you don't own it and enjoy challenging shmups pick it up, if you already own it then it's not really worth the double dip.

Finally getting around to writing up a quick review for this game because it is surprisingly fun! I purchased the game from GameStop the week before Christmas as something that my family and their kids might be able to enjoy, and I'm super happy I did because it was a total hit! It was really nice to see my parents playing with their grandkids. I don't think I've ever seen any other game where they were all engaged like this. There's a lot of variety in the games too. I do wish there was some sort of meta game because once we unlocked all 30 games that was pretty much it. No end game. While I paid $40, it's now only $30, and for 30 games it's totally worth it! Definitely worth picking up for short gaming sessions or if you have non-gaming family or friends that you'd like to introduce to gaming.

Completely uninspired artwork featuring most of the same rinse, wash, repeat gimmicks from the first game (similar to the yearly installments of the Assassin's Creed series). The game's style almost feels like it's mocking and laughing at the hip, trendy, holier-than-though populous of SF. I guess it appeals for the young "I-hate-my-parents" kids out there who want to rebel. Definitely selling.

Really came out of the gates swinging and almost four years later, you can still find a fair amount of people playing online. I still haven't made the jump to playing Halo 4 just yet because Reach MP still keeps me busy...that and admittedly, I still haven't completed the single player campaign. ;)
