A surprisingly well put together shooting game. The game is extremely replayable, as there are more than a large number of maps and a decent number of weapons and classes to play as. The game shines the best in custom servers though, I would recommend first getting some experience in vanilla servers to get the idea of how the mechanics and classes generally handle. Custom servers are a heck of a lot of fun since most of them have tons of custom weapons, perks and have huge population caps compared to vanilla, which has a cap of 6 people. The only issues I have with the game are the sketchy hit-boxes, which are a problem when enemies react to getting shot, shooting the enemies in the head while they are flailing about from getting shot does not necessarily count as a headshot since the hitboxes are not where the actual model are when moving. The other issue they have is the derpy AI, since the Tripwire isnt all that well known for putting much effort into AI programing, you will often find enemies getting stuck, causing issues with spawning. The overall tone of the game is a weird mixed bag, on the surface it seems pretty serious with its dark atmosphere and creepy looking enemies, but the voice-acting and the situations are almost always done in a silly feeling. The voices are all super stereotypically British, often using more British slang than what normal British people use. It gives this really funky but enjoyable feeling to the game. One thing I have to complain about when it comes to the developer/publisher (Tripwire), is that they haven't been at their A+ game recently. Their best releases are the original Red Orchestra and Killing Floor. Before, they were a very consumer friendly company, the issue that has come up recently, starting with the release of Red Orchestra 2, is that they stopped releasing polished content, they stopped continually patching issues, they also started introducing "paid DLC" for Killing Floor that keeps some weapons locked unless you have purchased it, and this isnt a $1 or so cheap add-on DLC, they ask for $8 for a weapon pack... this kind of thing is against everything that Tripwire has done and claimed that they would do. Anyways, thats the end of the rant against Tripwire, the game as it is right now is more than good, its just something to keep in mind for the future actions and releases of Tripwire. Overall, I think this is a great game if you like co-op shooters. If you could just stomach the somewhat dated graphics and engine (it runs in the Unreal 2 engine). I think this is well worth the price they ask, I have gotten hundreds of hours of entertainment out of this game, and if you like co-op survival wave-based shooting games, you will likely love this.

Lumines (2007)6
Jul 29, 2013
its... a decent puzzle game with an interesting music mechanic placed in. it is not nearly as obviously a core part of the game as in Chime for example. I played the PC version, and I am severely underwhelmed by the content of the game. If I had to explain this game simply to someone, I would say, get Tetris, Chime, and Puzzle Fighter smashed together, and you get Lumines. The gameplay is simple, but hard to master, however, the largest issue is that it doesnt feel nearly as addictive as just straight up Tetris, and lacks the charm of Puzzle Fighter, and lacks the heavy emphasis on music of Chime. it feels like it tried to be something different by copying the looks of other series... and then falling flat on its face with the very "meh" feeling you get from playing the game. I can only play the game maybe 5-10 minutes before I get deathly bored with it. The only content this game really gives you that is worth your while is the puzzles. the standard challenge mode (basically an arcade mode) is pathetically dull, and the different skins and music start to grate on you after a while.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare6
Jul 25, 2013
As much as I want to like this game, the frustrating parts of it really kill the fun of the game. first off, the idea is solid, it just was half-implemented. melee combat is interesting and they did add a little bit of depth into it, but it is far from being a well done combat system at all. beware of MANY issues with the combat, the biggest being lag, they have not addressed lag well enough, as a melee game is extremely intense and you MUST have split second control over your attacks. the lag in this game makes it VERY hard to properly land hits and block. not just that but many times, when you try to swing your weapon, it takes half a second for your character to actually start swinging, the input lag is variable, it can vary from no problem to holy crap, why is my guy acting so ****? SWING THE DAMNED SWORD YOU STUPID IDIOT! I dont like how they implemented the level unlocks, it is completely UNnecessary, and it ruins the balance. there seem to be weapons that are just plain WAY better than the others, and you often see very high level players only using those. also, when it comes to parrying attacks, its a crapshot, sometimes the game lets you, other times it just decides to let the enemy's attack through, almost always ending up with you getting 1-shotted. not just that but the damage system seems a little out of whack, I remember getting 1-shotted many times while I had my TOWER shield up against the enemy, then they proceed to 1-shot me with a dagger... WHAT?!? This game is a buggy and laggy mess, I can see what they wanted to do with it, but the execution was sub-par, leaving many major issues that really kill the fun in the game. oh, one last thing, DONT TRY TO REBIND YOUR KEYS! it doesnt work... It will not rebind mouse buttons properly after the first setup, so if you choose something for your extra mouse buttons, its permanent, you cant change it.

Conquest: Frontier Wars9

This game came out of nowhere and was a blast to play. At first glance, it may seem a little bland looking, but when you start playing it, it just surprises you at almost everything it does well. You can obviously tell that inspiration for this game was pulled from Starcraft, its pretty blatant with the fact that the game features 3 races, humans, a bio-based alien race, and a super high tech alien race, after that, much of the similarities end though. This is a very nice example of a space strategy game with a heavy focus on combat is like when done well. All the ships are very nicely designed, balanced, and all nicely varied, giving a good amount of tactical depth to the fighting. The feeling is somewhat like Sins of a Solar Empire (game released many years later), except its on a somewhat smaller scale, with the maps being connected with wormholes instead of warp-lanes, which makes moving units less of a pain, and much more about wormhole control than planet control. There is also supply for almost every ship, every time a ship shoots or uses an ability, it costs supply, and if you run out, the ship becomes an expensive liability in a fight, so strategy is involved when it comes to keeping your fleet supplied so they can properly fight, which will become more of an issue the bigger the guns and the more powerful the abilities become. For example, the ultimate human ship is the Dreadnaught, it is a massive flying fortress of doom that takes a ton of firepower to even faze, equipped with huge laser cannons that can blast most ships to smithereens from super long range, often with just a handful direct hits, and to make it even more of a problem, it's special ability puts its shields into overdrive, making it literally invincible while the ability is active. Sure, its a huge and powerful ship, but you will burn through your supplies in an instant if you continually have your invincibility on, making that particular ship an extremely expensive piece of flying junk since it cant shoot at all without supplies. Anyways, I digress. Overall, I would say this is a very well put together strategy game, its a shame that it is relatively unknown. I had a ton of fun with it and would recommend that, if you find a copy lying around for sale somewhere, to put down the couple bucks that they likely ask for (its also available on GoG), if you love strategy games, and love seeing ships in space duking it out, then you will likely love this game.

Sid Meier's Civilization V8
Jul 2, 2013
They decided to try to revamp the Civ series with Civ V, and in my opinion, they did a pretty decent job. If you are coming from Civ IV, there are quite a large number of changes that you need to note, the largest thing they changed was the fact that the map is hex-based and you are limited to 1 military, and 1 civilian unit per hex. This does allot to fix the anemic combat in the Civ games, and adds a large amount of actual strategy to fights, instead of moving stacks of death to steam-roll things. They also made it very hard to attack cities compared to before, since cities actually have a large amount of power, and can actually hold off a crowd of units by themselves. Anyways, if you enjoy building and managing an empire with the focus on managing the empire combined with some turn based combat, then Civ V is a great choice. If you didnt really like the Civ series before this due to the combat, try this one, its much better. The vanilla game is fun, but I would heavily recommend that you get the God & Kings expansion at the very least, as it fixes a ton of issues with the combat (all units health are measured with 100x more HP, so a modern tank cant be destroyed by bum-rushing with a mob of super low tech units), and adds a bunch of new things in the mix like espionage and religion. If you decide to get this game, get the gold edition. Prepare to lose many hours of sleep to this game once you start playing though... a standard game will last anywhere between 8-10 hours on average.

This may be the best version of Counterstrike, but by no means is it a perfect game. I personally am not a big fan of the Counterstrike series, as the game is a good example of "the rich get richer". newbies often have little chance of doing well, as many seasoned players can almost instantly headshot you as you are running on the other side of the map. my opinion of this game is, its a fun distraction if you play against bots, dont expect to do good, as long-time players are the norm online... and the community isnt very friendly either... with people continually trolling and being annoying using the voip.

Rising Storm5
May 31, 2013
This is one of the most messy releases I have seen for a PC game. awkwardly squishing a beta into an existing game, and you can tell that its STILL A BETA with how awkwardly Rising Storm was mashed into RO2, along with all the issues from the beta still being a problem. The game is now this weird frankenstein, with mixed fonts and missing content. I am disappointed in you Tripwire. I expected better from you guys. I thought this was supposed to be a 1.0 release, not a 0.5 release. Rising Storm is considered an "add-on" of sorts to RO2. If you own RO2, you can play all the Rising Storm maps, except you are limited to only playing as a Rifleman and can only use either the Springfield M1903, or the Arisaka Type 38. You cannot level up in any way, and no stats are saved. There are a ton of issues in the Beta version of Rising storm, and ALL of them are in the "full release". for example, there are random issues with being considered "out of bounds", and the out of bounds message will be permanent until it either kills you or you die, even if you run back in bounds. not just that, but there is a ton of text that does not show up correctly either, with all the syntax there. Tripwire, what happened to you? Please actually properly finish your projects before releasing them. Also, it seems like Tripwire is almost synonymous to buggy games and releases now. Oh, and even though they mashed RO2 and RS together, they are still considered separate games in the Steam store, which will further confuse RO2 and RS players. RO2 was a buggy mess, and they never really addressed many major bugs that really kill the enjoyment of the game. TWI promised that they would "fix" the issues with RS along with improve the game... instead we get this even MORE buggy mess that you can tell is a quickly hacked together attempt at shoving more content into the game. At least the majority of game breaking bugs were mostly ironed out in RO2 by this point, and the game is enjoyable as long as the bugs dont act up. I thought TWI was more consumer centric than this. They showed a ton of potential with RO1 and Killing Floor, but this... this is just pathetically shameless how little they seem to care about both their products and their customers with this kind of release.

Far Cry 26
May 12, 2013
Far cry is a series of games where each game has almost nothing to do with any of the others in the series. The original game was a highly linear FPS with an odd cheesy storyline that was basically a very weird version of Half-Life with absolutely terrible AI. Far Cry 2 takes place in a random "African" nation where you go around trying to find malaria pills and try to get to the bottom of some conspiracy or another. In place of the linear nature of Far Cry 1, FC2 throws you into a large world where you basically have free reign to go wherever you want, which is a welcome change. Positives: Visually great, the graphics are nice. Nice open world to explore. gunplay is pretty fun. Negatives: Guns have condition, and they have the reliability of an original M16 rifle in the deep jungle, usually, you can only put through a couple hundred rounds before most guns are basically completely useless. Respawning enemies, they respawn every couple minutes, meaning you MUST fight whenever you want to go anywhere at all. Mostly pointless story. 90% of the guns you have are left-handed In general, its a "meh" game that will keep you entertained for a while, though its not nearly as satisfying to play compared to the 3rd game in the series.

Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second5
May 9, 2013
Ive noticed there are a ton of 0s and 1s and the like for this game, and I really dont think it is deserving of a 0 or 1 by any means, and those 0s or 1s are likely from people that are expressing their anger instead of actually properly reviewing the game for what it is. What the game is, is a generic run-of-the-mill F2P Korean-style MMORPG that takes place in the Ragnarok universe. It is not an outstandingly horrible game like how many scores give it, and if you think that Ragnarok Online 2 is a 0 or 1... then you havent truly played a horrible game. Dont get me wrong, I am a big fan of the original Ragnarok Online, and I am also disappointed in what this game has become, but really, if you think this game is worse than something like Bad Rats... you have issues. anyways, on to the actual review. RO2 has been in the making for years upon years, and it basically dropped off the radar for me for quite a long time until I saw the announcement that it was going to be available on Steam. Given that I was a fan of the original game, I decided to give it a try, not knowing what to expect. the positives: Less issues on launch with the servers than most other highly anticipated MMOs The 2D art for the game is still superb the negatives: they ripped out the Ragnarok Online "feel" and replaced everything with a generic 3D F2P Korean-style MMORPG feel Game engine feels like its more than half a decade old... Very limited settings (ex: camera sensitivity is in the stratosphere with no option to change it) LOTS of bugs LOTS of lag Poor localization So in the end, the game got boring extremely fast due to the crazy grindy nature (which Koreans tend to have a fetish with), and what was left of the the charm of the Ragnarok Online universe was easy worn through, with everything looking cheap. There just isnt enough about the game that can set it apart from the massive sea of mediocre MMORPGs out there. the only thing that makes it stand out in any way was the fact that it was in the Ragnarok universe, the rest of everything is as mediocre beyond anything.

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad6
Apr 13, 2013
I love what this games tries to be, which is a good mix between realism and action, with a heavy leaning towards the realism side. The fights are usually quite intense, and most of the fighting is luck based and the rest of it is skill. The pros: you can get a good adrenaline rush from playing this game, since it heavily simulates reality, so you die extremely easily. Cons: Tripwire has NOT done a good job supporting this game. Initially, it was so buggy, that it was almost unplayable, they have patched it many times since then, and its still a mess. collision detection is unreliable, the game still takes up quite a large amount of resources to run for an Unreal 3 Engine game, forget about using AI Bots, as they are often hard to hit due to their jerky movements and animations, along with their animations and models not showing what they are really doing. I have been head-shot by AI bots many times when they are clearly looking the other direction, the bullet literally flies out of the muzzle of the gun, does a 180 the moment it leaves the barrel, and plants itself firmly in my face. They scale AI bots to your Honor Level, which means, when you first start out, they cant hit you at all almost, then when you get to at least level 50, they will headshot you from across the map with a submachine gun on the first shot 90% of the time. not only that, but the AI has some of the worst path-finding ive seen... with them bugging out on STOCK maps, all 30 AI players on your team will all get stuck in some particular spot or another, either they get stuck somewhere, or they will eventually all wander OUT-of-bounds till they are killed by being out of bounds too long... the AI isnt the only bad part. The UI is also buggy as hell, with one of the common bugs being that at the end of a match, it will continually make a clicking noise, as if you clicked on a button, and every time that happens, the map is shown, and it would kill the scoreboard if you have it up, its not game-breaking, but its annoying as hell. There are also issues with how the game runs on servers as well. map voting sometimes, ends up with a completely random map being chosen in the end, and I have seen an online campaign game get completely out of whack, bugging out and displaying everything wrong. one annoying thing I have to note is the stupid way they did tank mechanics. Its fun to drive a tank and it feels authentic and everything, but the hit detection and damage system is just stupid, as they state that it simulates real-life, but it does not in any way. they state that the angle of the armor and how the shot hit the armor affects damage and penetration, which is completely wrong. no matter what angle you hit a tank, its the same "damage". plus, throw in random damage on top of that. sometimes you barely glance a tank with a shot to the front armor, and it explodes in one shot, sometimes, you have to hit it dead center where the ammo bin is with 5-6 shots before it explodes... tank battles would be much more fun if the damage was not random like it is right now. Its cute that they added a leveling system to both the soldier classes and weapons, but I think it was something that is completely out of place, and I feel like they were pressured into putting it in due to CoD being so popular with its level and unlock system. that entire system should be tossed, since its a form of "the rich get richer" which really ruins the community, as it turns newbies away, which is a major issue since RO2 is heavily realism oriented, so it has a massively steep learning curve in the first place. the largest issue I have is the maps. many of them are historically accurate, but that does not mean that the maps are balanced in any way. not just that, but most of the "community maps" that were put into the game after a map-making contest are just plain bad. They may look pretty, but they are in no way balanced, nor fun to play. most of the community maps are wide-open sniper-fests, either heavily favoring the attackers or defenders, there are only a few maps where it feels like both sides have an equal chance at winning. in the end, its a fun game, and the idea is something I really love, they just ruined the execution of it by not releasing it in a playable bug-free state, and considering the competitive nature of games by making balanced maps. I give it a 6/10 since it is inexcusable that this game is still in such a buggy state more than a year after release, even if it is "playable". If the game worked perfectly with no bugs, and they fixed the balance issues, I would give it a 9/10.

Combat Arms2
Jul 10, 2012
I got into this game a while back as a poor PC gamer, before it came to Steam. At first, I thought it was decent since I had little experience with FPS games at the time, however, over time, I realized more and more how horrendously put together the game really was. I dont know what is is, but as far as I have noticed, Korean game developers just cant seem to get FPS games right, and I have seen a flood of mediocre to poor F2P FPS games from Korean developers. They can never get the feeling of shooting a gun quite right, which does not surprise me due to a variety of factors, both cultural and situational. Pros: Its free, there is an active community(theres a catch to this though... keep reading) Cons: Its Pay 2 Win (the very definition of P2W FPS), Horrendous ping(it doesnt even show ping at all, not surprising since Korean developers are not experienced at making FPS games in general), and the community is generally horrible (its one of the worst game communities I have ever seen), if you have played any decent FPS game (CoD, BF, TF2, L4D, BLR, etc) this will test your sanity. It may appeal to you due to the F2P factor of the game, but please, for your sanity's sake, dont play this game. Every time you think you are decently well off with an acceptable gun and a handful of gear, some child will join the server decked out with a premium character with a one-man-army's worth of equipment because he whined to his parents to buy him Nexon cards, run circles around all the poor people that havent payed real money since the premium characters were horrendously broken, chuck explosives everywhere, and wipe the floor with everyone that is sane enough not to pay $20 for a set of in-game items that only last a week. that further shows that the weapon balancing is non-existent, the higher level and more expensive weapons are just plain better. The presentation of the game seems alright at first, but the game shows its low production value with jerky animations and dated graphics. not only is the gameplay dated, but there lacks some very important things to make an FPS good, like being able to tell what everybody's ping is, and dedicated servers. I swear, even with the best games, I can guesstimate the lag of the movement to about 150+ ping, and on an average server, its 200+, as I run around a corner, and all of a sudden I die when I am not in line of sight of any enemy at all due to the lag. That being said, the community is the most horrendous part of all in this game... a large portion of the community consists of the stereotypical "spoiled devil-children", be prepared to listen to the shrieks of a spoiled 10 year old who's parents have basically "let the computer/XBox be the babysitter". not only that, but many of the players are not used to people that are used to playing much better FPS games. given that I have gotten my FPS skills from the 800+ hours of BF2142, I have learned to pay attention to the environment, and play with headphones. after taking a break from the game for half a year and getting back to it about 2 years ago, in the first game I entered, I was accused of hacking. It was an urban map, so it was CQC, meaning, paying close attention to your surroundings is vital. some child accused me of "chamming", which at the time, I had no idea what that was since I think people who hack in competitive games should be punched in the teeth (I dont keep up with hacks/exploits). apparently someone else explained to me that "chamming" was a wall-hack, which allows you to see where the other players are. I just listened for footsteps and looked at the mini-map, and I was called a hacker because I got the jump on someone by paying attention... and this happened in half the games I played. yea... the community is a steaming pile of cow dung. I left the game to keep my sanity. I will refuse to play this game even if Nexon paid me to do it (unless they want an honest review, in that case, ill happily expose it for the steaming pile of P2W dung that it is). If you read through all of this, I thank you, as hopefully you have been warned of the horrors of this game and will steer as clear of it as possible. The only thing I fear now is, now that Combat Arms has been moved to Steam, it is likely that the Combat Arms community is going to migrate over to Steam... "Brace yourselves... the onslaught of spoiled devil-children is coming..." There are infinitely better F2P FPS games out there, save your sanity and avoid Combat Arms like the plague.

a great game, given that its a Fallout game, and its made by Bethesda, who is responsible for the Elder Scrolls, you would expect a winning combination, and they delivered with this one. there are a couple gripes about this game i have, 1 is the somewhat clunky menu system, 2 is the somewhat dodgy physics at times and awkward gameplay mechanics, and 3 is the sheer number of bugs and glitches in the game. I can kind of understand the bugs and glitches since the game is just so freaking massive, but they really should have tried to fix those kinds of things in the Oblivion engine. Ive noticed people complain about the story and some complain about how pointless the game is... apparently they dont understand what this game is and cant get a clue as to what the heck is going on. the entire premise is that you, who has never been outside of a nuclear shelter in their life, all of a sudden is forced outside into the wastelands. at that point, you are free to do what you want, whether its going for the main story, which is the pursuit of your missing father, or exploring the wastes for useful stuff. the last thing i want to complain about is the GfWL, M$ needs to stop trying to get into PC gaming again, their days of glory are over, its not the days of "Rise of Nations" anymore. M$ needs to stop getting into things if they are going to half-ass their work. however, with all those things aside, Fallout 3 really is a great game that has a pretty good story to back it up too, if only the mechanics were more like New Vegas, where they threw out any semblance **** story...

CoH is not for everyone, but overall, its an amazing experience. the sheer level of realism is impressive, and the complexity is quite deep, but not so deep that it gets in the way of the gameplay. however that being said, the complexity of the game would turn off many people. to truely be able to be good at this game, you need to be very good at micromanaging, which im not particularly very good at. the level of complexity actually gets to the point where you have to actually tell every tank exactly which way to face, since their armor varies depending on which side they get shot... its not a perfect game by any means, but it sure is a great one.

Battlefield: Bad Company 25

I had been severely disappointed in BFBC, so I was hoping that DICE had finally got their game together to make something amazing again, and again I was disappointed. I have noticed that most of the big fans of the original line of BF games (BF1942, BFV, BF2, BF2142) have been very disappointed in the mediocrity that DICE has been spitting out recently, seriously DICE, you used to win "Game of the Year" awards back in the day as if they were a dime a dozen, we all expected at least something good. enough about that, on to the actual game. Its mediocrity at its most mediocre. its still puny groups of people fighting on maps where visibility is near nothing due to all the dust/snow thats flying all over the place. not only that, but I find a hacker at the rate of 1/3 of all the games i play in, people who somehow manage to headshot a bunch of players PERFECTLY in rapid succession from the other side of the stupid map without missing a single shot. and about the visibility, DICE decided to focus on their game engine more than the gameplay... again... I can understand how destructible environments is nice, but the hyperbolic destructive power of all explosives in the game is just nuts, along with the ridiculous amounts of dust that explosives create. having a 40mm grenade blast a hole in a concrete wall 6 feet wide makes no sense, it seems like all the structures in this game are made of Styrofoam filled with compressed dust inside... adding to the list of things i want to complain about is the lack of a comm-rose, combined with the fact that you can only call out a single enemy every 10 or so seconds, which doesnt help when you have spotted a group trying to flank you, you cant even make it clear that you want ammo, or a medic, or even say thanks, that combined with no prone position makes it immensely frustrating to try to scout enemy locations... the last major thing i want to complain about is the regenerating health... I dont get it, WHY does EVERY FPS game HAVE to have regenerating health? even in Multiplayer? how does running away and **** on your thumb for 3 seconds equate to growing your legs back all of a sudden? it kills the point of being a medic, and encourages heroism, where the very good players run into a enemy stronghold, picks off a couple guys, then runs off for 3 seconds and repeats, and theres no way of killing that player even when they took 30 bullets to the chest over the span of 20 seconds, the idea of working with your team is almost non-existent in BFBC2. Though with all that said, the game is moderately enjoyable, and the thing I am most impressed by is the fact that its closer to being an actual BATTLEFIELD game when compared to BFBC. At this point, I have lost all hope in DICE, and I think its only a matter of time before they turn out like the old amazing game producers like RAREWARE(Goldeneye007,Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie) and WESTWOOD(Command & Conquer), both were swallowed into the maw of EA, never to produce another great game. I am not expecting great things from BF3 at this point, from what Ive heard and seen of the game, its still going to be a far cry from the greatness of the old BF games, since apparently, FPS games are all about entertaining 10 year old kids with ADD these days with all the flashy graphics and explosions and none of the depth and strategy they used to contain.

I was shocked and disgusted with the game i was presented with, though i was already somewhat expecting a mediocre game due to the fact that it was a console FPS, I didnt expect it to be this bad when compared to its bigger brothers. The weapons were all bad, you could not use the sights on a third of the weapons, plus the multiplayer fights were pathetically small, with only a handful of people being able to duke it out at one time. not only that, but the controls were very clunky. the Singleplayer campaign is a joke, its short and has no real meaning since BF is a series all about satisfying multiplayer experiences. I guess the main reason why BFBC was such a disappointment was because the dev team for the original BF series quit DICE right after finishing BF2142, before DICE started on BFBC. BFBC is a faint shadow of what the BF series is, you can see a couple things in it that remind you of the great old games. its an insult to the Battlefield series that this game even has the Battlefield name on it.

Battlefield 214210

Its interesting to see so many people vote this game so horribly. I have logged hundreds of hours of BF2142 and can say that it is THE BEST MULTIPLAYER FPS game I have EVER played (given that it works, i will explain later). I have plenty of friends that played 2142 and they all loved it, and I occasionally meet someone that had played the game, and it is almost always that we get in a long passionate conversation about the game and all the fun times we had in it. I would say that anyone that got the game to work correctly, and took the time to get fully accustomed to it, is very likely going to love the game. The amazing thing about the game in my opinion is that they took BF2, and fixed pretty much everything that was bad or annoying about it, and put it in a completely different setting, with a different feel to it. the balance in this game is surprisingly very good, as every class or vehicle has very well thought out strengths and weaknesses, along with actual directional hit detection that works. not only is the balancing good, but i like how they simplified the class system and just made everything more streamlined and efficient. instead of 8 classes, they combined them into 4 while giving you the option to customize your kits for your situation. I loved that, since in BF2, it seemed like all the classes had IMMENSELY powerful strong points, and everything else was a weakness. basically, now you have a chance of winning in almost any situation, though the chances all depend on skill and luck, instead of like in BF2, where you excel in certain situations, and every other situation, you will be overwhelmed and slaughtered. Now, onto the bad parts of the game. the main problem I find with the game is EA. This was the last game that the original BF team worked on in DICE, and in my opinion, the pinnacle of their work. in case if you didnt know, the original dev team for BF quit DICE and joined Infinity Ward, meaning that CoD4 was actually BF3. but enough about that, EA ruined BF2142 since they decided to go about giving absolutely horrendous support for it, as the game program was immensely finicky, it loved to not run correctly, many times for no apparent reason at all. plus, the updates were few and far between, meaning that bugs and glitches stayed in the game for quite a while before they were fixed. At first, 2142 was not that great due to the horrid way EA ignored the game, then it got better for a couple years. however, they decided to stop with all support for the game and stop updates quite soon for this game, when hundreds, maybe thousands of people were on at once, still fervently playing this game, at least when i know the community was still VERY active. as to the advertising, its actually not a big deal, all that happens is that, depending on what server you play on, they can change the graphic displayed on billboards in game, I dont get why so many people are worked up about it, and why so many people would give a "0" to a perfectly great game just because they dont like any kind of advertising at all. So, to sum it all up, BF2142 is the Best multiplayer FPS game I have ever played, when it works. the game itself was pure platinum, but EA had to get around to ruining it. If you want to play this game, you cant anymore. the community is almost non-existent now since EA decided to abandon it quite a while ago, if you had played this game a good couple years ago, it would have been something amazing, but its time has passed. Its one of those under-rated gems ****, pretty much ignored since BF2 was still super popular at the time.

Battlefield 29
Aug 24, 2011
One of the classics of FPS games. Given that the Battlefield series has won "Game of the Year" awards from many different sources. I would describe the game as an amazing idea that has been implemented quite well, though there are some major problems with the game however. one is the very erratic accuracy of weapons in the game, and another is hit detection due to lag, and the final problem is the horribly put together menu and the engine in general. the menu system is just not put together well and the engine tends to both be finicky and somewhat buggy, for example, every time you start up the game, your resolution will be forced to a certain setting, which messes up window sizes on your desktop, but thats just a minor detail, just a pet peeve of mine i guess. Though with the menu system, the main problem Ive gotten irked at is the fact that the ESC button brings up the main menu from battle, which is a pain since if you accidentally open it up, you will have to wait a good 5-10 seconds to be able to close it and get back to the game... i never understood why they made it like that. As to the actual gameplay, its very addictive and very fun, especially when you get a team that is both at least moderately skilled, and can pay attention to the flow of battle. Teamwork wins games. The thing about BF games, especially 2 and 2142, is that they take a long time to get accustomed to. I picked up this game after not playing it for a good 5 years or so, and I was so rusty that my skills were almost non-existent. I would say to new players: "This game takes a lot of getting used to, I would say it takes at least 10-20 hours of playing to get the basics down, and its a continual process of learning how to deal with different situations and using your gear effectively. Its not about being a hero, its about working as a team to beat the enemy. If you try to play BF like CoD, you will be severely disappointed in your performance, as we seasoned players will pick you off easily since you stand out so much." By far BF2 is better than CoD when it comes to the sheer addictiveness and fun of the multiplayer, theres just this level of awesome when 64 players clash with military hardware.

Sanctum (2011)8

Sanctum was a bit of a surprise to me, I didnt expect something as good as this when i first got it. given that it does get old somewhat quickly, overall, its a very enjoyable game. it just is disappointing how easily it becomes boring since its a game thats designed to be multiplayer and played over and over.

Its a nice little game with a very interesting style of presentation. though technically the graphics in game are very minimalistic, it does make sense why they have it as such. if only they had more of a real storyline, it would have been something **** game, the game overall feels like it was left half finished to me. overall, pretty fun, but then it gets old pretty quickly.

A great game, especially for the price. Some may say its a ripoff of Minecraft, but I would have to disagree, I own both games and have spent hundreds of hours in both. Think of it as a 2D version of minecraft that had much less emphasis on building things, and much more emphasis on adventure and combat. if you liked Minecraft, you will very likely love Terraria as well. The only real bad thing is when you have collected pretty much everything... because at that point, it doesnt really feel like you have all too much left to do in the game.

a fun game to say the least, it may be a little short, but it will keep you entertained through the entire thing. i like how this game makes you think, and that sometimes you will make some kind of elaborate plan to pass the level. its a nice little indie game that pretty much anyone can play and get the hang of easily.

Hammerfight2

Given that the game was included in the humble indie bundle, I expected a half decent game. however i was sorely disappointed. it may be an original idea, and is different from pretty much anything else out there, but it does not mean that it actually pulls it off well. the controls are the main point that really turned me off, Its nice that you use the mouse to move around, but given that I failed the very first level (non-tutorial level) at the very least 10 times, it says something. thankfully I have a mouse where i can change the DPI, so i set my DPI to 500 for the calibration, then played the game at 3200DPI. at that point, I could actually play and move around. it seems like the game was made for people that use their ENTIRE desk as the mousepad, so if you want to play and be able to actually be able to WIN easily, clear off your entire desk, and start with your mouse in the middle, at the maximum DPI you can possibly set it as, then you can actually PLAY the game. the controls are not the only problem, the visuals are also a problem. There are levels where its somewhat hard to tell where the walls are, and if you smack into a wall, you take damage and get stunned, not only that, but sometimes theres just so much going on in the screen that you can barely make out where your character is, ive lost track of where my flying machine was after getting hit and dragged into a mess more than a couple times. The game is buggy, the controls are just horribly done wrong, and the difficulty makes ATLUS games cry in shame. Its an interesting idea that is executed very poorly. I guess they never got anyone to really test the game and give feedback. If I had the option of separately buying this game from the HIB3, I would not even consider paying for it.
