I am not review bombing, I honestly believe this game is a terrible disappointment. The Playstation early launch was botched and the game has been laggy to the point of unpleasantness since, despite my Internet being adequate to stream games from GFN and xCloud. The game isn't much fun, the story is juvenile in scope and presentation, the UI is PC-centric and not very good (harken the redundant need to press a button to get from the splash screen to the main menu and it gets worse from there). If you strip away the hype and the fear of missing out, there really isn't much left of the game. And with Blizzard giving exclusive cosmetics to people that gift Twitch subs, there's even more than the usual amount of astroturfing. In the meantime, I just can't find any compelling reason to actually sit down and play the game. It is not very good.

This is the best Far Cry game to date. Better, even, than FC2 was relative to its era. The story isn't as rich as in some of the other titles, but the gameplay is FAR better. Far Cry as a series has definitely been on an upward trajectory while its major rival, Just Cause, is going the other direction. Great game and finally brings the franchise to the upper echelon of open world titles.

This game feels like the work of junior employees that have an overabundance of ambition without the restraint of common sense. The game eschews convention in favor of style, and as a result things like navigating are much more difficult than they should be. Swipe up constantly to get a poorly rendered wisp that is supposed to substitute for the waypoints and minimaps everyone else has accepted as the standard for decades. It's a terrible misstep and ongoing frustration. Another frustration is that the cutscenes--all cutscenes--are unskippable. I don't need to watch my guy strip down to get into a tub 50,000 times. There's a bit to like here, but it's a shame that there's so much wrong. Unforgivable things that can only be explained by a game having been created by people that don't actually play games.

Loved this game on PC (as well as the original release it improved on), but the PS4 version is lacking. I played on a Pro and it still felt sluggish and choppy. It feels like some of the other PS3 remasters on the platform, where they have ported the PS3 version with all its oddities instead of using the more sensible PC port. Whatever the reason, the game performs inexcusably poor for a title that looks as old as it does. As a result, driving and combat both feel far worse than they do on any other platform. I cannot recommend the title as it is.

This is a very bad game. It's like Blood & Truth without the attractive graphics, realistic weapons, fully-voiced characters, or stunning set pieces. The breadth of difficulty options is unreasonably limited. The cover system doesn't work well, the weapons aren't accurate, and it just isn't a compelling title. Even as the cheapest paid experience available for the PSVR, it isn't worth the money. Look up public achievement stats for the game and see that almost nobody plays past the first level. It's trash.

I haven't played through the entire game, but if I waited for that to happen I would never be able to share my opinion. The game is a waste of a Star Wars franchise. It isn't particularly fun running around as the worst Jedi ever. It's a bad platformer in the style of Darksiders with Dark Souls -tyle combat that renders a group of swamp rats as a serious threat. I like the voice acting, but the graphics seem somehow shaggy and less than crisp. The soundtrack and score are shockingly poor, given the franchise. It's less Darl Forces: Jedi Knight and more The Force: Unleashed with worse music, worse force powers, and slow-paced combat unworthy of a Jedi.

Late to the Playstation party and therefore didn't get a chance to play this title while the getting was good. It feels dated now, even in the collection updated for PS4. Not just the obvious visuals, but the gameplay itself feels very crude relative to the competition. I expected the game to play like the modern Tomb Raider games and it does, but the combat is even more excessive, repetitive, and frustrating. The game is really more of an on-rails shooter than adventure game, and it does the combat very poorly. There is no auto-aim option, the camera is wonky, and mobs spawn from all directions (including previously cleared rooms) like a 1990s FPS. It's just bad. Adding to the frustration, you have to spend most of your time collecting ammo like in a survival game. It requires scouting around every corpse for a flashing thing on the ground and then pressing a button to loot. It's very easy to accidentally swap weapons instead of looting ammo. It's obnoxious and feels like a throwback to an ancient era best forgotten. I can't say whether the games improve as one moves through the collection because I am not enjoying myself enough to push through the entire series of games. Very disappointing, at least from the perspective of someone just checking in for the first time in 2019.

I can successfully sign into my EA account via many different games on many different platforms, but for some reason FIFA20 on PS4 insisted that I needed to change my password. Instead, I returned the game. I never got into Ultimate Team ($$$) in the previous titles and the new game doesn't have the cherished story mode. The new playground mode feels more like a mini-game that you'd see while your real match is loading. Nothing here that warrants the hassle of reworking my account and memorizing/inputting a new password into a million games using a gamepad.

In summary, Hellblade is a really bad Dark Souls clone. I expected great things from the game, having enjoyed previous games from Ninja Theory and encouraged by the progression of quality, but Hellblade marks a significant detour on their path. The first thirty minutes of the game are like an unskippable cutscene except less interesting. And the game only gets worse from there. When playing the game, I constantly felt that the design decisions were made with THE DESIGNERS in mind instead of THE PLAYERS. Unskippable slow-walk sequences are a great example and TBH, the whole game feels like one giant and unskippable slow-walk sequence. Not recommended and a bad enough game to take Ninja Theory completely off of my radar.

I'm sorry, but the critics got it wrong. This game is a very solid 7-8, but by no means does it deserve the "best ever" slot. RDR2 is a solid game but deeply flawed. Every game design decision was biased towards realism or selling microtransactions instead of FUN. As a result, you spend the vast majority of your time doing monotonous busy-work like securing food, shelter, maintaining your weapons, etc. Even those looking for a deep simulation experience are going to be disappointed, however, because so many of the supporting systems are so bad. Expect to struggle with your horse and your horse-oriented storage. You are REQUIRED to keep every weapon you've ever picked up on your horse with no way to throw them away, sell them, or force a loadout for example, but your horse is very often unavailable when starting missions. You can only carry one of the 50 million large pelts you require for crafting around at a time, but each time you begin the 20 minute horse ride to the drop-off location you lose the pelt to side missions or horse malfunctions or whatever. It's tiring and unenjoyable and that's the bulk of the game! The actual story has some of the worst pacing in video game history, with the first hour of gameplay featuring only one gun-fight amid thirty minutes of horseback travel and inconsequential dialog. It's the kind of thing better games let you skip as cutscenes, but it sets the stage for an excessively drawn out main campaign. If you distill the game down into "main" campaign missions, the campaign length probably drops from 60-ish hours down to less than ten with the only meaningful or memorable bit falling squarely in the third quarter. The game world is fairly bustling, but it's not even the same planet as something like a GTAV. It has some nice vistas and such and is probably the best looking video game I have ever played, but the level of detail that makes each location memorably distinct simply doesn't exist.

This game is phenomenal. It's everything RDR2 should've been: story that's gripping from the first moment, western-themed gameplay with hassle-free mounts and gear. Hunting and crafting systems that don't ****. The only issues I had with the game, really, were that the nights were too frequent, too dark, and too ugly, and that the Dead Space style cave exploration garbage that took up so much of the late-game stole focus from all the things that the game did very well to that point. Still, fantastic overall experience and one of the better reasons to pick Playstation over other platforms.

Press X to continue. Gameplay, as far as I've gotten in the game, is like a worse version of DMC with graphics that completely fail to impress. I am learning that when the word JAPANESE is a tag for a game that it is going to be unsuitable for intelligent adults in the same way that a HORROR tag means walking simulator. I very much regret buying this game. Since the last patch it literally takes ten minutes to start on my very fast computer, up from less than one minute. I have no interest in PVP, so it's insulting that the best gear ATM is exclusive to the dark zones (PVP). The EasyAntiCheat stuff installs a kernel driver whose security and privacy risks should be very alarming to anyone with half a brain. The online-only functionality of the game means that lag can render the game totally unplayable, yet logging in to play from the US I often find myself getting placed into servers in Australia or other remote locations. Even when playing solo PVE content. It's a giant mess and I wish I could get my money back or otherwise punish Ubisoft for this absolute pile of garbage and the accompanying, privacy-robbing platforms.

VERY grindy game. Probably the most grindy game I can remember playing of late. You have to grind to buy cars, then you have to grind to level the cars up. Getting the first car for a discipline leveled up to the maximum takes something like twenty hours. Then, to grind out the "set" that you want takes another 20-40+. I cannot even guess how long it might take to get a desirable set where all the item affixes are desirable, but I haven't met anyone that has managed such a feat. It's ridiculous. The netcode is DRAMATICALLY better than the previous game and among the best I remember seeing in an online game, but the playing experience is largely solitary. There are a dozen or so races across a dozen or so disciplines, but good luck finding people you enjoy playing with. There aren't, presently, any facilities for matchmaking or even global chat channels or anything. On the up-side, the game is gorgeous. The number of licensed automobiles is very large, including a pretty fantastic selection of popular motorcycles. If the idea of zooming around on a decked out H2 or S1000RR or even a Street Glide sounds appealing, The Crew 2 is the best option I have found short of doing it in real life.

Not really a big fan of shooters, but gave this a try because it was included with Origin Access. The game is gorgeous and runs pretty smoothly. The level loading is on the slow side, but acceptable. I did not attempt to play online, but the single-player campaign was frustrating. The game largely forces you to either play by stealth or fight vast numbers of enemies. Even on the easiest of five difficulty settings, it's WAY too easy to die. None of the weapons available have sufficient ammunition available to camp long enough to clear an area. The average is about two magazines of ammo. Sniper rifles are largely pointless when you have to go loot enemies every ten kills or so. For someone that mostly just wanted to go sight-seeing through a historical campaign, the game wasn't really much fun.

I've logged maybe six hours in Unity since preordering. The game runs smoothly for the most part on my pretty fast computer, but every now and then there's a weird slow-down where the game becomes unresponsive. Afterwards, I find Arno climbing an invisible wall with no way to get down except exiting the game. Because most of the sessions aren't very fun, I usually don't restart the game. The layout of the map and the large number of civilians makes running around on rooftops faster than street travel again for the first time in years. Unfortunately, Ubi changed the free-running system to now require pressing an extra button for up or down. The system isn't tuned well, and while the system does allow a person to run around a corner or around an obstacle without inadvertently climbing, it is still a major step back in terms of fluidity of control. Combat is awful - where in previous games a player could cut down a crowd like Chow Yun Fat, Arno is not a very good fighter. The visual cues for parry timing have been tweaked, and they are not as effective - especially coupled with the slow-down that often occurs in very crowded areas while fighting. Further, there seems to be no way to prevent getting shot (the last several games had a human shield maneuver). Worst of all, 90% of the trademark assassin moves (air kills, stealth kills, etc) are unavailable until purchased with one of the FOUR in-game currencies. Combat has taken a HUGE step back in this iteration of the series. In previous games, Ubi tried to train us to accept running around a map looting chests as a substitute for gameplay. In this game, Ubi moves to step two: exploiting the now-ingrained chest hunting by making chests that can variously only be opened in co-op, using the smart-phone app, or using real-money to buy points. The map is so filled with markers for collectable objects, which as far as I can tell offer no significant benefit upon being collected, that it makes navigation a little frustrating. And the map itself is soooo huge that missions often require running a tremendous distance between objectives, just like the old days. I would've preferred to have the map broken into separate pieces with many more fast-travel options. A phenomenal storyline woudn't be enough to save this game, but it's irrelevant. Arno is an insipid character, like a shadow of Ezio, who as an orphan doesn't even have family members to use as a vehicle for driving the story. Overall, Unity is my least favorite Assassin's Creed game ever and probably the most disappointing AAA game I've ever played. Even AC: Liberation HD, the port from a mobile platform, exceeds this game in every measurable way short of outright visual fidelity. The only good thing I have to say about Unity at this point is that Ubi gave me a free copy of FC4 for being unlucky enough to buy Unity at full price.

User ScoreEglin
Jan 4, 2015
GRID Autosport features more cars, tracks, and modes than any Grid game to come before it. Unfortunately, all this diversity is absolutely ruined by the horribly boring career mode. The career mode breaks gameplay up into categories and requires one to race well over one hundred nearly identical races for each category to unlock the final events. Seriously, the one hundred races all take place over just a handful of (3-5) tracks and a few (2-4) cars. As if this weren't enough ****, even a player that places first in every event they enter will be forced to start in the back of the pack 50-100% of the time. And although every single "season" is scored on team performance, there is no facility to choose your teammate beyond choosing between two subpar racing teams at the beginning of each season (better teams aren't unlocked until repeat playthroughs, as if the first one wasn't dragged out long enough). If Grid's approach to single-player was to just layout available cars and tracks and say, "go to it!" then I would rate the game as an eight and name it the best racing game Codemasters has ever made. Unfortunately, the way the single-player content is spread so nauseatingly thin across a campaign whose length is already nauseatingly exaggerated.

I'm not a big fan of UPlay and I find it hard to excuse launch issues in a game with as much pre-release hype as this one had, but Watch_Dogs is still a game worth playing. Compared to most other open-world games (GTA series, Saints Row series, etc), the control layout (on a 360 pad) in this game is very natural and comfortable. Being unable to shoot without aiming means that the right trigger can be used for sprinting, instead of the typical awkward left shoulder button. Being unable to jump at will frees up the A button. Not being able to shoot while driving eliminates even more awkward contortions. These are all compromises that didn't sound appealing to me going in, but after spending time with the game I find it to be a superior setup. In terms of gameplay, the main storyline is of adequate length and although there aren't as many side activities as there are in some rival games, there is always something to get into in Watch_Dogs' gritty Chicago landscape. The game world is bustling with people and a variety of traffic that (perhaps because of the diversity of vehicles compared to other games) feels very organic. Add in the hacking gimmicks and the amazing paranoia that the drop-in-at-any-time multiplayer spies and hackers inspire, and the result is probably the best open-world game available on PC behind Skyrim.

This game is fine, but nowhere near as good as popular opinion seems to indicate. The addition of developer commentary only highlights the technical hurdles that the team chose to sidestep (eg no mirrors in bathrooms, an "open world" that resolves into a handfull of simple corridors, etc). The Missing Link DLC is incorporated into the game, but just barely - it amounts to a cutscene's brusque segue into losing all your weapons and skills. Further, the DLC isn't really very much fun to play; it feels like a supermarket, where you have to move from one corner to another to suit the seller's needs rather than your own. Having to execute all these fetch quests is even more obnoxious by the existence of not one but two airlock-type thingies that each take roughly a minute of flashing blue lights to pass through and a two minute elevator ride with scenery befitting a ten year-old game. There's some fun to be had here, but it plays like a budget game and not the AAA title that so many would claim it to be.

It is difficult to explain just how bad this game truly is. For starters, there is no apparent way to change the resolution from full-screen 800x600 - one of my monitors will refuses to display this resolution properly, so this game fails to run on 50% of the computers I've tested it on. The volume of the sound/voice/music can't be adjusted, so it's not a game that is friendly to headphone-wearing gamers. The controls can't be remapped and don't include gamepad support. Basic actions, like using a key on a door, are cumbersome because there is no mouse support. The graphics are beyond basic - the avatar is so poorly animated that she kind of shimmers and shakes when she moves, inducing eye fatigue and headache after just a few minutes - yet the game takes forever to start up. Since there isn't any menu or anything there doesn't even seem to be any proper way to exit the game. I couldn't even alt+f4 to exit, I had to resort to alt-tabbing out and using the task manager. On top of the mediocre to very poor gaming experience, the game options are as rudimentary as possible. It's not possible to adjust the keyboard mapping to something suitable for left-handers, it isn't possible to setup a gamepad, it isn't possible to set the resolution to match my 16:9 Windows Desktop, it isn't possible to adjust the sound levels, and the game is riddled with horrible, horrible aliased and jagged lines with no option to enable anti-aliasing. All these features should be trivial to include, since the game is built on the excellent Unreal engine, but the developer must've felt like creating an options menu or setup program was too much work. This is definitely another indie game that benefited from rating inflation. It doesn't deserve the 8.2 that it received, so pass on it until it shows up for four dollars or less.

This game features amazing graphics, lightning-fast animation speeds, superior controls, and a tremendous amount of content. There must be 30 or more characters, each with his own combos and special attacks. The game also features a full "story mode", where the player is led through a series of fighting stages tied together with rich cutscenes. Included, too, are a handful of mini-games and challenge modes. There's certainly plenty to do here, although it all ultimately revolves around fighting in the same general style. Any accomplishment in the game is rewarded through Steam Achievements and in-game currency which can be used to unlock even more content. The game is quite difficult. I was expert at Mortal Kombat on console twenty years ago, but in this version I find it difficult just to complete the ladder (the standard single-player gameplay mode) in the easiest skill level. The story mode is equally difficult. I've tried playing online a few times, but I was brutalized so badly that I doubt I'll ever try again. Those with faster internet connections or MUCH greater skill may fare better. Even with the difficulty, however, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I would gladly give the game a perfect 10 if it included a hard-copy or printable manual including nice reference cards for player combos and special moves and a good online matchmaking system that takes skill and connection speed into account to kind of shield players from getting into very one-sided matches unintentionally.

The game is fine, but not amazing. I either didn't know or didn't remember the big gameplay hook, so it was a wonderful surprise when it was revealed about five minutes into the game. Unfortunately, it was one of the only memorable bits about the game. I mostly bought Fez because of all the rave reviews, but alas the game is rated about 20 points too high. This indie escalation thing has just got to stop! Seriously, if we're going to rate indie games on a different scale (with 90 being perfectly adequate and 5 being complete garbage), then we need to be up front about it so that nobody really believes that an indie game with a 90 rating is going to be as good as a AAA title with a 90 rating. This one certainly, definitely, without a doubt is not as good.

Great little gem ****! The controls are tight, the story is laugh-out-loud funny, and the difficulty level is just right for my tastes. Probably 2-4 hours worth of gameplay, but neither feels too short or too long. I bought it on sale for less than a dollar, but anything under five bucks would probably be fair. The game wasn't advertised as supporting controllers, so I was pleasantly surprised to have my 360 controller work with no configuration required.

I bought this game after seeing the relatively high Metacritic score, but I wish I hadn't. The game doesn't have even the most rudimentary setup options no way to change the screen resolution, no way to change the volume levels, etc. The bulk of the game is comprised of repeatedly solving a small set of very simple puzzle games. The games are fine, but they are too few and the "story" connecting them is so weak and cumbersome that the game would be better without it. I am finding that I can no longer trust Metacritic scores when it comes to indie games. For this game to have a score in the same ballpark as Tomb Raider, Saints Row, etc., it should be in the same ballpark in terms of quality, but this is clearly not the case. Not even close.

This game features nice graphics and what appears to be a good story, but it's all wasted due to horrendously poor fighting mechanisms and shoddy camera control. The fighting and platforming sections feel like they were transplanted directly from a console game 15 years ago there's not a single thing creative or unique. The camera is so bad that the monsters your hero is fighting are frequently off-screen with no way to turn and face them. The enormous length of the game might be a wonderful bonus if the game were at all worth playing instead, it feels like work to get from one level to the next. Nearly every level has one or more hero upgrades that are inaccessible on the first play-through, which is a slap in the face to those of us who are unlikely to even slog through the game the first time. Definitely rent this one for a console before spending more than the cost of a three-day rental to own it.

Wow! I'm not sure that I've ever seen a game with such gritty, realistic graphics certainly never before in a side-scrolling platformer. Although the controls are pretty terrible and the cut-scenes have more in common with a comic book than a film or AAA video game, the game still has a nice flow and an amazing environment. This game is definitely worth checking out.

I agree with the guy who said they should've named this "The Broken Arm Simulator." Yeah, yeah, I get that you're not supposed to be able to perform flawless surgery, and that it's supposed to be funny to butcher the body in front of you, but the controls and physics are so sloppy that any humor dies very very quickly. The only game I can really compare it to, by virtue of being in the same genre, is Adult Swim's Amateur Surgeon a game which is 100 times better in every way.

The game feels like it was written in Flash. The atmospheric music is way too loud and there are no volume controls. The gameplay isn't really fun, and the puzzles I've seen are obscure rather than clever. The only positive thing I can think of about the game is that it was cheap, although I would've passed on it had the reviews better prepared me for what to expect.

A giant step backwards from the original Trackmania game. Although TM2 features better graphics, the gameplay has gotten worse. Where in the first game, you could see your ratings go up beginning with the comletion of the very first race, this game requires you to gain gold medals to qualify for rated single-player time attack racers, which can only be repeated every five minutes (even for tracks that take only 10 seconds). Multi-player races are as meaningless as ever, with zero collision detection and staggered starts. And the new engine won't show your horns or custom paint to other players unless they've tweaked their firewalls it's awkward and antiquated. This is a very poor quality racer.

Really more of an atmospheric platformer than a puzzler, Thomas is an utterly charming game. The narration brings Douglas Adams to mind, or possibly the Flatland books. Not a terribly long or difficult game, but a wonderful experience.

After hearing so ma ny good things about this game, I it knowing that it didn't support Steam achievements and required UBI's horrendous Uplay DRM software. Sadly, the game didn't come close to living up to the hype. The weapons feel anemic, in that basic animals and any armored human target requires almost a full clip to dispatch with anything other than a sniper rifle or a head-shot. Seriously, it shouldn't take five shots from an mp14 to drop a wild dog, and it certainly shouldn't take two entire clips to kill a bear. The AI is awful you basically have to run into someone while crouched before combat starts, but if you miss a shot with a silenced sniper rifle from 1km, enemies will magically converge on your location as if you were glowing like the sun. The graphics are quite nice and I have played through it without a single crash, but the gameplay isn't generally compelling.

This game is amazing. I can't think of any complaints, flaws, bugs, or really any room for improvement. Unless you have a mental block that says that all games must feature 3D, this game should be on your shelf.

Disney quality music and animation, or better, marred by meat-boy difficulty. I've never seen a game with so many opportunities for instant-death. Repeating the same sequence a bazillion times is not entertaining. I really want to like this game, but I always feel like throwing my controller at something five minutes in.
