Don't trust the pearl-clutching critics who were afraid of this show. It's amazing. If you like TV shows that smell like roses and make you feel bubbly inside, maybe look elsewhere. This is like Last Exit to Brooklyn with high schoolers. Buckle up.

P-Valley: Season 16

Alright so some of the negative reviews are likely the anti-woke crowd doing their usual spamming. The show has a good premise and explores situations not usually depicted on television. That said, I got half way through the first episode before turning it off. The acting and writing is clunky and awkward, especially for the dancers/club owner. I didn't get any of the grittiness I expected from a show about a strip club in Mississippi. Maybe it's just pilot growing pains but damn, it was way too obvious the characters were just reciting lines from a script. I need visceral. Cmon man where's the visceral?

The Wire: Season 25

I think we all need take our medicine and be honest about this season. I'll start off by saying that this is my favorite show of all time. Best thing ever put on television. However, the dock workers story line is absolute, unadulterated trash. Even if it didn't completely clash with the tone of the rest of the show, which it does, it by itself it is still horrible writing. Every scene with Ziggy made me want to call David Simon myself and ask him whether he got sexual pleasure out of seeing his audience suffer. It's just bad. No two ways about it. It drags the whole show down. All it really does is show us how the heroin arrives in Baltimore. That's really it. Should dock workers and unions be explored and celebrated? Yes. Just not in this show. This is Stringer's show. Do yourself a favor--if you are watching/re-watching, skip every dock worker's scene that doesn't have one of the characters from Season 1. It will save you much pain and discomfort. Alright enough ranting just wanted to say my piece. Shouts out Prop Joe. He didn't deserve to go like that.

Great first 6 episodes. Very well written and well acted. Some of the scenes about addiction absolutely blew me away.

America to Me: Season 17
Aug 27, 2018
After the first two episodes it's pretty good but not as good as I had hoped after reading the reviews. It's Steve James so you can expect quality film-making, but be prepared for an overbearing and somewhat self-serving racial theme. Those looking for a banger like Hoop Dreams will get some compelling stories, however you may feel smothered by an incredibly pessimistic and honestly anti-progressive message. I may be naive, but focusing incessantly on what divides us is not a trend in the right direction. The addiction to racial differences I see as an American really bums me out sometimes. It is absolutely overwhelming on any side of the political spectrum. I wish film and television would present stories such as these differently as to let the next generation know they are more than just a color. To those giving this series a zero: I empathize with (some of) your criticisms but please, don't trash something hundreds of people worked incredibly hard on because you can't see passed a political message. I am going to keep watching because I respect Steve James and think I could learn something from these kids. I hope you do too.

The Handmaid's Tale: Season 110

Don't believe the low user ratings. Excellent distopian drama. Leave politics aside while you watch--it has been an incredibly well done series so far after three episodes.
