People say "Dark Souls Clone" like it's a bad thing, but I can't think of a better franchise to borrow from, and as long as publishers do an adequate job with the formula, I'll keep buying the hell out of these games. The combat is a little clunky and it doesn't have that From Software polish, but there's no reason the SEQUEL (hint!) can't be a perfect Souls-like game.

It's the Witcher 3 with robots. For some people, that's a dream come true (and that's totally cool, btw.) But for a SMALL number of people -- and this review is for them only -- this will be the same old open-world, fetch-questing, choose-your-diaolgue-answer-KOTOR-style, bland crafting and inevitable stealth mechanic snooze fest. Pros are the graphics and the combat, which is often a LOT of fun. The rest is too predictable to recommend. Again, if you're into games like the Witcher, then I think this is well made and probably worth your time.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard10

Actually more like an 8 or 9, but I'm trying to balance out the fanboys who gave it a zero without actually playing it. Pros: Challenging enemies, great graphics, great mechanics, polished gameplay, scary as hell. Cons: It starts to lose a little momentum two thirds of the way through, possibly due to the setting not changing all that much, or because the story isn't all that compelling. I'd still pay full price for it though. And I will be playing it again.

I'm close to the platinum trophy in Super Meat Boy. I love a challenge (that's why I picked this up.) But too often, you're being punished for the game's crappy physics engine. Your ninja moves like he's gliding on ice or floating in water, by which I mean you have very little control over him. This isn't twitch. You react, then much, much later, he reacts. It's beyond frustrating. Good level design tho. Just don't do what I did and go from a masterpiece like Meat Boy to this.

Final Fantasy XV6
Nov 29, 2016
The series has veered so far off course from what made it great in the first place, it's essentially UNRECOGNIZABLE. This is not Final Fantasy. I'm not sure what this is. Nevertheless, I'm not going to hate for the sake of hate. (notice I didn't give the game a zero.) Here are some pros and cons: Pros: --Cut-scene graphics are very impressive. --Clearly a lot of time was put into the game. --Combat can be exhilarating at times. --Enemy/Boss design is fantastic. --Characters/Story/World may appeal to certain people. --I hear things later in the game get better, but personally I don't want to wait for that. Cons: --Story is preposterous, even for this genre. --Main cast's looks and personalities are uninspired (this one is the most disappointing because that used to be the series' strong suit.) --Main cast never. shuts. up. --Combat can be very repetitive (you can literally just hold circle for much of it.) --Traveling, at least at first, is excruciatingly dull (in your car, you're unable to even veer off the road!) --Side quests are often boring (think typical "fetch" quests.) --It doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, at least not to me. Again, there may be people who will enjoy it. Judging by the other reviews, there are already quite a few.

Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel7

It hurts me to give any Souls title less than a 9 or 10, but for hardcore fans this just won't be enough. I took my time, did everything, and it still only took a couple hours. And while one of the boss fights is pretty great, the other one is mediocre at best. Bottom line is when a dev gives you such stellar DLC as Artorias and Old Hunters, the expectations will always be high. Here's hoping the last installment will be up to par.

I know it's been several years since this game's release, but had to review it based on it only getting 7 out of 10. Anyone who doesn't like this game can't handle it, simple as that. It's brutally difficult and because of that, extremely rewarding. If you have the twitch skills, pick it up. Amazing game.

XCOM 210
Sep 27, 2016
If you liked XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within, you'll like this game. You might have to get used to the new classes (the biggest change, in my opinion), but there are enough improvements in this game to win you over (one of the biggest is undoubtedly the improved character customization options: You'll get so attached to your crew you'll want to restart every time one of them gets hurt.) There might be some bugs, and you might gripe about some other little things, but the core game is there. This is an excellent strategy game, simple as that.

It's pretty meh. Kinda fun at first, quickly gets boring -- and FRUSTRATING. Crafting and juggling inventory is repetitive and annoying. The whole experience left me thinking "if only...." What a shame.
