I'm now 60 hours in, and I'm amazed this game isn't talked about everywhere. This game is every Fire Emblem 3 Houses' fans wet dream. The game stands on its own two feet just fine, but if you come from the previous Fire Emblem game you'll see that almost all the outside battle mechanics are kept, the story is strong and adds to the universe of 3 Houses. The gameplay is also changed to be more similar to that of 3 houses, where even if you control 1 character on screen in musou, you are also forced to direct your allies in the tactical map as the battles progress. This is a must buy if you liked the previous game, and still a great purchase if you have not gotten around to it yet. You can start with this and then do 3 Houses later too.

This game has a very fast pasted and challenging combat system, which awards flawless and varied combat techniques (which can be quite difficult to master, if mastering this is even possible considering there are endless opportunities). They also do well with the battle music, and open up for several ways to end a problem, making repetitive gameplays not just a bore. For new people coming into the series (counting this view) the story is quite solid, with both likeable, creative and understandable antagonists.

Pros: - Great single player experience with a custom made character. - Tons of customization options. - Combat & gameplay is great overall. - Biggest SoulCalibur in the franchize, it takes all the most beloved elements of the previous alterations - The Reboot brings back the most beloved characters. Cons: - Shady DLC practices - Reversal Edge takes too long to finish (should have just been a simple counter, like in DoA) - Boring OST Flavor: - Fan service - Custom made characters with wrong frames can be played in ranked - The main story mode feels more like an RPG than a fighter.

The game series is back, now with a brand new combat system that is new to learn for veterans, but which at the same time keep enough familiar elements to not turn away the winning formula of the DoA5 games. Pros: - Improved graphics engine with more smooth skin - Improved facial details - Improved facial expressions - Improved details to base model (finger details, toes, etc.) - Much more environmental hazards - More unlockables within the game's quest mode and online mode than most other fighters - A more rounded and on point story mode - Very strong soundtrack - Built in accessory equipment selection (sunglasses, hair setup, bracers, etc.) - Core game is quite cheap compared to other fighters Cons: - Breasts physics are less smooth compared to the Soft Engine v.2 - A downgrade from the Soft Engine in regards to clipping and adjustment onto objects (can usually only be spotted during photo mode) - Expensive cosmetic DLC - Underwear selection is still hidden under "select character with button x, y, z, etc." Taste dependent: - Reduced breast sizes - Less anime graphics - Lobby mode to be added as free DLC later this month - Changed combat system with less focus on stun-combos - New "zoom in on vital strikes"/brutality (can be turned off) - Cloth damage on most costumes from the start - Can be played on low graphics for weak hardware or 4k on a strong computer.

It's a system of elements which together adds up to become much better than the sum of its parts. Gameplay, story, music, etc. It's weaved together in a presentation which can only be achieved on the game media as a delivery platform. I'll remember this one, as it is more than just a game, it's a true work of art.

This is the first visual novel I've ever purchased (or read for that matter). I'm not really the type to sit down with this on a game console, but after watching the anime from start to finish for about 2 weeks ago I thought, "screw it, I need to watch the next volume". After reading about the movie, and Episode 0 of the anime, I decided to just jump into Stein;s Gate 0 since it was basically just out the gate (heh) and people had spoken warmly about the last visual novel. As a conclusion I can say without a doubt that if you'd just finished the anime, and took that route, then this game works really well. I can't speak for other's viewpoints and angels of entry, but for me this just turned out to be a very satisfying adventure. I also finished all 6 endings, and without spoiling any of them, I could say that I found it fascinating that the totality of them would (and could in theory) make up 1 big story larger than the initial true ending. The only thing I really miss is an "after days" episodes of Kirusu and Rintarou. I somehow will expect them to promise having children together in multiple timelines and the Stein;s Gate's Kirusu to hate all her other Kirusus for making such an unfair democratic decision (so irrational). However, from the way this series is going, I guess I can expect some juicy new adventures on that topic in Stein;s Gate 2: Beyond the Gate (name subject to change). FWUAHAHAHAHA!

This game brings something new which we hasn't seen in a while, and delivers on what it tries to give. It's a bizarre adventure in the format of a rail-shooter, where the innuendos fly rapidly, and fan-service aplenty, though it takes no damage on the gameplay which is solid as a standalone. Personally I love the puzzle parts where you do quests and try to find hidden objects admits all the havoc. Minigames like getting the schoolbook filled out (including the girls measurements and weak spots) and the dating sim elements + routes also give the game an RPG feel which keeps the overall progression going, where you always feel you get further despite if you mess up or not during some of the runs. It won't be game of the year, but if you are into fan-servicy games and bizarreness combined with an unique but functional gameplay, then this is defiantly worth your money.

User ScoreCrext
May 22, 2016
It's a typical spin-off Neptunia game (what do we even call them anymore?) with the usual silly crazy dialog stuff. The gameplay is musou and is an improved upon the system of Action U, with a better story arch and battles are much shorter where the longest battles by far are those of the bosses. As such the grinding of Action U is none present in this game. The online mode is also very good, where this is where you go for longevity after you complete the main story. Different bosses also have different weaknesses towards different weapon types (or even require them to take parts off in order for others to do damage, like shells), so some of the hardest bosses require teamwork which kinda makes the online a semi-MMO experience, or much like Toukiden/Monster Hunter, where you talk to others through emotes/pre recorded messages (and there is A LOT of them). In short, if you like Neptunia games and musou games then this is a decent purchase. It may not be as flawless as Senran Kagura, Hyrule or Dynasty Warriors in gameplay, but it is good enough to keep you interested throughout the story, and the late game boss fight mechanics is entertaining once you've finished the main content if you still feel like sticking around.

This was/is my first Atelier game, and I started off on Logy's storyline and didn't really expect much. I must say I was shocked over how well this game actually seems to turn out. I remember seeing reviews of these games series down at 5/10 and 6/10, calling it niches and what not. Ok, maybe this game in particular is way better than the older ones, but as a newcomer to the series I had nothing to compare it to and tbh not much to complain about. The combat is entertaining and constantly evolving, adding new characters in a good paste and the crafting... I can not remembering enjoying crafting at such a level before... The closest I can think of is the Witcher series, but even them should take a few notes from this series as for how it should be done. Only reason I put it as 9 instead of 10 is that the music could be more diverse as for battle themes, and even though the graphics are good it is not Skyrim or Final Fantasy. These are just minor stuff though, so ye... The game is worth your time.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

User ScoreCrext
Feb 18, 2014
In short, for me, 13-3 is clearly the best of the 3 games in the series and does everything better. The game is probably a 8.5~9/10 on the grand scale of things. They especially elevates the combat system (general gameplay), the possibility to explore early on and overall gives you a lot more of a "Skyrim/Dragon Age" feel to the game than before. They actually change so much compared to the earlier installments that many critics do judged them based off this. It will take some getting used to where for instance the combat system is closer to the Tales series than earlier Final Fantasy. It requires more responsiveness and timing (like critical guard, counterspell or counterattack) and "areas" require different setups for success. Abilities have different stages, depending on if your opponent is lifted, grounded, attacking, ricocheting off a well timed guard or other stances, where you often must combine your different armor sets for good effects (Erza Scarlet - The Video Game). This freedom may be a curse for young gamers though, as having to learn a game can be difficult where there is little hand holding (most must be discovered, and it can easily be bypassed (like how to make money fast and get the "correct" gear from stores, or generally level up (must go by the quest boards and harvest souls). It can also go from happy faced sunny days to dark hours in seconds, like having humors moments with joining a date for free food to suddenly turning the corner after completion to discover a hanged girl thrown off a building (killed, because you failed that quest the day before, and now must face the results). Thus this game may be more adult focused (in regards to murder mysterious, details of victims, etc.) than the previous games. The main story is not that extensive and the game could be completed in 6~16 hours, however the side quests do add to the holistic view. For old school FF veterans, one complete "decent" play through for discovering ultimate weapons and so on would be close to 80~100 hours). That said it has potential for ever lasting effects ala. Dark Souls with New Game+ and so on. Pro: -More engaging Combat system (More like the Tales Series) -Difficulty choice. -More world exploration -You can give the main protagonist diverse personality traits/body language based off the different armor sets -Engaging side quests -Good music Cons: -You might feel the time pressure -You have to learn many things yourself (pro for FF veterans). -Main story is not that extensive. - If you don't learn the combat system fast, you'd potentially lagg behind, making the game adjust the difficulty so that you can end up with a "hit 1 ability" pattern of the earlier games (each day passed gives you access to more abilities and gear, making it naturally easier for the earlier zones). - It may be difficult to understand what zones you are not ready for (save before engaging a new monster type (you usually have to learn their pattern behavior and will die the first time anyway)).

Just finished it, and without giving spoilers I can safely say that you'd never feel stuck doing the same in this game. It constantly changes and will always feel fresh, with a paste and mechanisms that throw away that grinding feeling you get from other games from time to time. It starts off as rather strange "child-like" game, and gradually become more complex and appealing to adults as well, with beautiful music worthy its name. The improvement curve continues through the entire game. This is the best game in JRPG genre since Final Fantasy 7 in my view, and could in short be called a mix of FF, Pokémon and Harry Potter, and I for one have no love for the last one mentioned making the top score even more impressive.

This game needs more girls. Throw in some Dead or Alive chicks, Lara Croft, Tifa Lockhart, Big Sister, Anna/Nina (Tekken) or anyone that doesn't look ugly. To have a cast of 20 and only 2 girls, where one is a fat princess and the other is facesmashed, that doesn't make this game appealing for the female part of the population (or the perverts for that matter).

Other mechanisms may rely on X hit combos and airlifting, ultimately making it a 1-player games at 10 sec periods at the time. If you like fast paste and constant thrill, then this is something you'll like. *Good looking characters* - Both the men and women looks above average, however from eider practical, realistic or ideological view this may be viewed as a con. The fighters rarely look battle scared, even though they may turn sweaty or dirty if you put on this function, their faces will never become pummeled, bloody or utterly destroyed. There also is the aspect at practicality as some costumes would be really hard to fight in, (like a clown uniform.) and some may view strong female fighters as unrealistic. Lastly arch-conservatives may view some of the costumes to be too revealing or unethical.

I just finished normal mode and made it into the next playtrue, however I don't feel like playing much more. (got maybe 8 hour gameplay.) Reasons are mixed, but it generally is summed up as the game looking and feeling like it should have been made in 2005 or 2006. It's simply not worth the price. Try getting Magicka or Torchlight II instead, which is both cheaper and in my view better.

This game is like it predecessor beautiful and challenging. Even for veterans of Demon Souls most of the monsters and bosses are completely fresh and innovative. It is hard, but not something most adults can handle with enough trial and error, and if you can you get the ability to summon other people relatively early, after second boss counting the tutorial one, thus gives yourself and opportunity to cheat yourself true the game if you don't think your good enough, or need a guide. Also the bonefires makes progressing a lot easier as you don't have to redo as much as in the previous game. Looking at the negative comments the conclusion from these is eider that the people are too young, too impatient or simply one of the very few who can't complete hard content after enough trials, which is rather puzzling as the two first bosses has easy ways to beat them in less than 1 min. However, for veterans from Demon Souls, one can quickly adjust and rush parts of the game because it's many similarities, but the new environment and at times puzzling layout makes it just as much a mind game as a combat game, making those "old types of mobs" feel like a part of the puzzle.

Even hard difficulty provides little challenge once you see true the **** AI intellect, then you overtake armies twice your size without much difficulty. In our day and age we expect more flexibility and freedom from a strategy game, and when you find yourself steamrolling on easy difficulty just for story, then you realize the only thing keeping you is the role playing factor of the game, and even that has it limits when it can go hours between each story driven encounter.
