Mindblowing that this has good ratings on MC. Truly a horrible movie, to the point of being laughable how bad it was. But it was still a passable watch, because of how bad it was.

The First Omen8
Apr 7, 2024
For a movie I decided to watch on a whim, The First Omen had no business going this hard. Truly a creepy, and scary film. There were copious numbers of jump scares that really got you. You could feel the whole theater jumping and shifting in their seats with the jump scares. Also, the sound design was awesome, with a somewhat consistent whispering that sort of melded with the theater audience, so it was difficult to tell if the theater was still settling in after a jump scare or if it was the movies sound design making the creepy paranormal/cultish ambiance. The other thing that it did well, but that I wasn't as big of a fan of, was how there wasn't a resolution I enjoyed. I haven't seen any of the other movies in the series, but I wanted nothing more than for Luz, Silvia, and the other cult **** to get their comeuppance. Anyways, the movie did so many things right, I don't even want to bother going into all of them. Suffice to say, if you're able to stick it out through a really, really creepy scary movie, this one is really good across a wide array of dimensions. Oh, and for those who have watched Saint Maud, this movie reminded me a lot of that one.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire8
Apr 1, 2024
Yeah, critics got it wrong on this one. It was a fun watch, a typical Godzilla Kong movie, so if you enjoy them and the developing universe, its fun. If you're looking for stand alone film with a lot of depth, dont watch this one. One thing they need to do to help improve the movies is to have one where Kong beats on Godzilla. The movies always make it seem like Kong is a speed bump for Godzilla, not like at least theyre equals. Let's give Kong an upgrade and have him beat down Godzilla. But again, fun movie to watch.

Dune: Part Two7
Mar 7, 2024
I think it was okay. I'm not being more glowing on it, because I think the review score are overestimating it, which is a bit befuddling, but again I enjoyed watching it in theaters. The downside was the complexity. It was a bit difficult to follow the changes in the **** on the upside, the visuals were great, and it even reminded me a bit of LOTR, in the sense of being a grand scale epic fantasy, and I think that reflects really well on this movie.Overall, the atmosphere of the movie was enjoyable, and had a good pace to it.

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant8
Feb 8, 2024
Very, very sick movie. The exact sort of movie that is standard in hollywood (with good reason, and to my enjoyment) with it's depiction of heroism, the covenant is a satisfying film to watch. It's awesome to see the USAF at their best, the diverse collection of people and pieces needed in their misisons, the righteous conclusion, the salvation of the vulnerable. The action scenes were excellent, hard to beat, along the lines with any classic war film. While not as bleak and dark as Black Hawk Down (which is not a knock on The Covenant), it still has awesome scenes of kinetic conflict all usually under the hot and arid Afghan sun. But perhaps what was best of this movie was the values that it shared. The film does a great job of promoting good values for Americans, as well as reflecting culturally American values. From the determination to see something through to the end (and agency to take action when others won't), to the cooperation/camaraderia/decentralized decision-making, to a keen sense of justice and personal debt, to support for the vulnerable, to resilience and perseverance, to a distinct sense of kinship, the covenant runs the gamut of good values, and that's what ultimately makes this an enjoyable watch. Because watching heroes be heroic is always entertaining and worthwhile.

Pretty horrendous. I mean, so much wrong with it, I could write an essay on it. But to keep it short, and save any poor **** from getting drawn in by the decent score it has right now-- this movie is garbage. Characters ****, the characters don't have a brain, there's no logic, there's so much pointless **** in the movie, the whole theater was laughing at how stupid the movie was at some points, the villain made no sense, they had no coherent clues, honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if the directors had no **** clue who the murderer was when they were done filming, so they rolled a dice and went with whoever came up. i mean seriously garbage. And some more points, the effects were horrible, the only reason this is even considered horror is because they have a jumpscare every 10 minutes, and they had absurd kills. It's not a zero because there was some entertainment factor, from how stupid some of it was, and how the film was somewhat visually appealing. Long story short, it's garbage, don't waste your time, nor your cash, the 20 bucks I forked over for this is 20 dollars more than this movie should have made.

Wow, it's been said a million times, but what a stunning film. Even watching it outside of theaters, nearly a decade after it's release, the visuals stand the test of time. Incredible. If there is anything to take away from my review is that this film is, simply, awe-inspiring. The heartfelt emotions conveyed in the story were captivating. The movie shifted from phase to phase effortlessly. This movie really harkens back to the Avatar movies in terms of a beautiful motion picture. The lessons about human resilience is a timeless tale. The weaving in of religion elevates the ethereal connection of the film. The uniqueness of it's design and style, particularly for it's time, I imagine was a defining piece of art. There are so many positive things that can be said about the film that I'll leave it with this-- this movie is a piece of art, an evocative piece that is emblematic of movies abilities to tell a story. While the visuals, the sound, the cinematography, the ambiance, the transitions are all sublime, they provide the base perfectly, which allows for the frankly simple story to blossom.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One8
Aug 12, 2023
Man, this movie makes absolutely no sense. It fits right into the mold of an overly choreographed film, particularly with the dialogue, and the story, outside of the broad strokes “they are trying to save the world” is simply a mind bend. Really had no idea about what was going on in the narrative layers beneath the top line. All that aside, it was still a fun watch, entertaining, Cruise is better now than in other MIs as far as I can compare from memory, and Hayley Atwell and Rebecca Ferguson were stunningly beautiful which was worth a couple points. Hayley's character was insufferable for a good bit for how she kept mistreating Cruise, though that's more on the writing for making Cruise out to be the worst of the worst white knights in their interactions. But she still had a good redemption and her character was very feminine which was a positive. Pom Klementieff's character was psychotic. All in all The movie was really entertaining, definitely worth the watch. The score is probably moreso in between a 7 or an 8 to be a toss up, but an 8 is fair enough, especially when watched in theaters.

Really fun watch, very entertaining, and engaging. A very unique film, the MCU keeps becoming more incredible. At times, the animation was too much and overwhelming to the senses, and the ending was very disappointing. But even those points aside, it was an incredible film. Really worthwhile.

Dunkirk10
Aug 11, 2023
Really good movie. An adventure of a film, so much ebbing and flowing, and the intertwining of narratives was beautiful. It was frustrating seeing the complete and abject failure of the troops to protect their withdrawal, though it's difficult to decipher whether that was a poor decision on the part of the movie makers or if it was somewhat historically accurate. Either way, doesn't really take away too much. Incredible movie.

Awful. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. But it was funny given how bad it was and watching the iconic line was somewhat worth it. It is a stereotypically awful movie with terrible lines and acting and stereotypes, but that coupled with how known the movie is made it funny at times. Not really worth watching, but also not the worst thing to watch. All in all, it was an enjoyable watch.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters5

It was an alright movie. The motivations of some of the duplicitous characters don't line up with their actions on a second watch, which takes points away from the movies continuity and foresight, though i won't say more to not get into spoilers on that. The graphics were cool, and the fights were as well. All in all, there isn't much to say about the movie. Cool movie to watch if you have nothing else to do, I supposed.

Really fun movie. Like all MCU movies, you can expect it to be fun. Great soundtrack, awesome theatrics and cinematics, comedic relief. What this movie might've done a bit distinctly from the rest was hit home. There were some moments of incredible emotional depth, that's hard to think of in another MCU movie besides End Game, No Way Home and maybe a few others. Feigen delivered again. Great movie, lots of fun, definitely worth watching.

The Assistant8
May 6, 2023
Pretty good and interesting movie. I've for a long time wanted to see a movie that simply covers the mundaneness of life, and while this doesn't do that exactly, as it focuses on the injustices that the assistant faces, but it is still very cool to see in action. It makes a lot of sense that this movie was better received by critics, it certainly is a movie that requires a lot of patience and I'd imagine a conscious decision to like the movie. On the specifics of the movie, the acting was great, the lead was very sympathetic, and it was beautiful cinematography and in it's simple lingering shots. Additionally, it was infuriating seeing how she was treated during the movie, which I take as a sign that the movie did it's job, I suppose. But still, so many of the people interacting with her were insufferable and really made me want to punch them through the screen. All in all, a good film.

An Easy Girl4
Apr 21, 2023
Decent movie. The positives were the unique french film making style of focusing on side characters in mundane ways that add a lot of flavor, the cinematography, a strong character in phillipe, and the sound track. It was a very calming atmosphere. The negatives were unlikable characters, shallow lessons, and an overall sense of emptiness the film conveys.

Nothing has me laughing harder than the comments talking about how this is a "masterpiece" because it makes you feel uncomfortable, disturbed, emotional pain and that it reflects the "difficulties women go through." I saw a video posted on the web of mexican cartel members cutting the guts out of a rival gang member while he is alive and screaming. I felt uncomfortable, disturbed, enraged, and pain, was that video a masterpiece? There were many other issues with the movie, particularly in how unbelievable it was, and other technicals like pacing and camera shots. I won't even bother getting into how ridiculous the plot was and wildly divergent actions in the first half of the movie and the latter revealed motivations. Those issues were minor compared to problem with the message of the movie. I empathize with everyone who lived vicariously through the film and saw it as feeling vindicated or felt some sense of justice. But recognize what you are enjoying and promoting, perfectly encapsulated in the final shot-- the sadistic enjoyment from the subjugation and torture of others. And if that is justice to you, then who is left that isn't a depraved criminal?

Let Me In10
Apr 11, 2023
Wow! An incredible movie. It's a horror movie, but oh it's also so much more than that. A truly beautiful film, that delves into a sweet and tender relationship between two young preteens. One where the young lady helps the young man grow, and the young man accepts the young lady unconditionally. It's a movie that is sure to touch your heart. It is certainly the best horror movie I have seen in a couple years, and it's take on the genre is deliciously unique and entertaining. The musical score was ripe and poignant, and the interactions between Owen and Abby were smile-inducing. I could go on and on, but in the end, what makes this movie so good is that, in the most unlikeliest of places and of ways, it makes you feel good. And in a sense, isn't that what love is all about?

Mudbound10
Apr 7, 2023
Beautiful film with an incredible amount of depth and clear forethought messaging and thematic irony. Touching on the intersection of religion, morality, alternative slavery in the jim crow era, American identity, and family relations. It really hits on nearly every point of significance, and it makes you feel. It has one of the saddest moments I've experienced in a film, and yet also shows the resilience of the human spirit, and the humanity of people who endured the struggles of the era, and has moments of body-chilling inspiration and hopefulness. Mudbound lays bare an ugly truth about the south during world war 2, and makes us question to what extent it is still going on. 80 years after the abolition of slavery and there was naked, disgusting terrorists bullying blacks. What is going on now, 80 years after the end of ww2? While the movie does an expose on all the above and more, it is not the message of the film. The final message of hope, love, and overcoming. A rose can grow from concrete.

One of the better comedies I've seen so far this year. The practical jokes were great, and there was even some high level, topical philosophical discussions. My favorite part might have been when the purple dinosaur danced on the middle aged mans back, then a bee stung a girl, and then there was a benny hill scene in the market with a young man putting on a light show and another dinosaur trying to eat cake. It gave me quite the hoot. And to top it off, there was even a joyful religious service!
