The comedy here can be broad, and is usually far from subtle, but there’s a buried message that promises better episodes ahead.

It has political points too, about diversity and unity, preservation and gentrification, which are simultaneously emphasized and danced around. Stripped down to its essentials, it’s a familiar sort of comedy about a person who would like to be left alone and the person who won’t leave him alone. ... If Dave can seem too weird to be true, the Butler family represents a dynamic so familiar to situation comedy as to seem practically real.

I highly recommend getting past a few 1 line racial insults on both sides of the fence to dive into some an awesome show. If you liked Martin back in the day you will love this show but you need to watch it atleast until the 3rd episode before u judge. It's worth the wait! By the way Calvin's wife, is an incredibly funny character. The actress, Tichina Arnold, is one of the funniest women I've ever watched. She's always been good but I guess this is the 1st acting role that showcases her physical comedy as well. I love the entire cast. Check it out.

If executed properly, "The Neighborhood" could hold up a powerful cultural mirror in the vein of [Richard] Pryor and Norman Lear. But it’s not quite there yet.

Perceptiveness alone will not carry a sitcom; it's got to have jokes. And The Neighboorhood relies far too much on the novelty of a black character spouting edgy lines that we're more accustomed to hearing from a white mouth.

It has all of the cutting-edge social commentary of a CBS sitcom from the early 1970s.

A quality cast does its best, but can’t salvage the cringe-worthy dialogue and paper-thin characterizations.

It's a great show. The issue people have with this kind of comedy is the same issue that critics have of comedians like Paul Choudhry, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Russell Peters, Omid Djalili, etc. There's a TV show which portrays the stereotypes of White people for probably the first time and as it doesn't fit the whole status quo of comedy directed from the obscure things or traits a stereotypical person of colour whether it be asian, african, carribean, etc do. The critics are the only racists here. Its a great comedy! Hope it gets renewed.

Another trash sitcom show that are already littered with and over saturated on television. Another that uses laugh tracks with any sentence usually. Trying too hard to be funny and people that are too stupid to know when to laugh need guidance. Stop making these dog crap shows and actually make something that requires original thought.
