It's captivating. Not to mention the stunning performances from the cast as they dive into these characters and breathe life into the story. The Mighty Nein is an incredible adventure series that earns its spot as a top-tier fantasy TV show.

This mature venture sticks the landing for established fans and newcomers alike, and stands an excellent chance of becoming a modern fantasy classic.

The Mighty Nein’s comparatively slower pace means that our core characters have time to breathe on their own and form satisfying, lived-in one-on-one relationships before getting tossed into an ensemble.

Despite the more ambitious setup and mature tone, the CR gang have retained the incredibly character-driven storytelling, with the endearing pairings and party dynamic front and centre.

The show has its own unique feel that makes it stand out as more than just a continuation of Vox Machina, with a new group of distinct and flawed heroes, and a bigger focus on expanding the scope of the story.

We want the show to be compelling and relatively self-contained so “civilians” like us don’t have to do extensive research to crack the show’s code. The Mighty Nein succeeds in that regard, for the most part, though there were times during the first episode where we were scratching our heads about who was who and what was what.

It takes until Episode 4 of "The Mighty Nein" for all the characters to finally meet, and it's a delight to watch them bounce off each other. As the season continued, I found it best to approach the overarching story about retrieving a magical entity known as the Beacon as nothing more than a Hitchcockian MacGuffin; an excuse to keep these characters together as the story itself is not particularly engaging when taken at face value.
