The footage here is truly extraordinary and gorgeous, and, for the most part, artfully edited.

The subjects of this series, seen in their habitats--a massive Nile crocodile, which gets to eat once a year, lying in wait for herds of wildebeests to come by; a hungry polar bear, stalking seals while struggling in the melting ice--have all the impact of characters whose moments on stage are brief but not easily forgotten. An effect largely due to the talent and enterprise of the photographic team for this endlessly compelling work.

The series doesn’t measure up to top-flight Attenborough, who is working on “Planet Earth II,” but it is mostly fascinating as well as, of course, informative.

The Hunt is more of a high-stakes chess match, albeit one featuring spectacularly photographed athletic grace. Its preternaturally omniscient cameras document the shifting strategies employed by both predators and prey.

There are times where the HBO drama-esque narrative they're imposing on the animals seems a little sketchy and forced (some is funny, though, too, like the reaction shots from bystander animals), but it barely matters, because every second of the footage is beyond stunning. I have just never seen anything like the camera work The Hunt has going on. So much of it seems impossible, and it's all impossibly gorgeous. I can only assume this is the series that will be selling 4K televisions all over the world for the next decade, the way Planet Earth sold Blu Ray.

The footage here is unbelievable. The way it is constructed tells the story of each hunt beautifully. Each episode ends with 5-10 minutes of explaining how the footage was shot, that is equally unbelievable.
