The show never forgets it’s a twisty, high-stakes thriller, and neither will viewers.

If you feared that Squid Game had lost any of its bite after that middling second season, prepare to be brutally corrected in a final chapter so dark that you'll be gasping no matter how strong your constitution.

Squid Game is a masterpiece: vivid characters, tense drama, unforgettable visuals.

It’s black comedy at its bleakest, a tonal juxtaposition that is to be admired. I think it’s so effective, especially in a genre that is so extreme in its gore, that it masquerades as “fun.” ... Like Parasite, it uses genre as a Trojan horse for discussions about capitalism and class. We’re a culture attuned to hyper-violence, but the series manages to show it in a way that you never become desensitized.

Ultimately, the series understands the dismal realities of late-stage capitalism, but doesn’t know what to do with all that angst, resulting in a disappointing end to an otherwise compelling game.

If you can get on board with the new contestant twist – and that is a big if – then the final two episodes have a nicely grand and operatic feel to them, and ultimately, Squid Game does its job. But it leaves the impression, too, that it has become a more traditional action-thriller than it once was.

The show still feels like it's constantly wagging its finger about morality and money in the arena, rather than actually building on the most interesting plots. Squid Game can't shake the desire to reiterate the same exhausting lessons about greed and human nature, and that does more to weigh down the narrative than lift it up.

“Squid Game” has nothing to say about inequality and free will beyond pat truisms, and its characters are shallow assemblages of family and battlefield clichés, set loose upon a patently ridiculous premise. ... [The violence] is more than mildly sickening in its scale, its graphic presentation and its calculated gratuitousness.

Squid Game as a whole starts with something truly solid—Season 1 hit hard emotionally, had layered characters, and gave you real things to think about, from economic desperation to how far people will go when pushed. But after that, it slowly falls apart. Season 2 felt like more of the same, just messier. The games were still intense, but Gi-hun’s choices didn’t make sense, and too many characters were thrown in with not enough depth. Then Season 3 comes along and proves they ran out of ideas. It had emotional moments, sure—but most of the writing felt lazy, rushed, or flat-out wrong. Characters you care about die in ways that don’t fit their arc, and some scenes are so unrealistic or badly handled that it take you out of it. Overall, it started as something with purpose and turned into a show that kept going just because it was popular—not because it still had something real to say.

When the first season was released, the show instantly gained worldwide popularity — a massive fanbase, tons of merchandise, countless memes and discussions online, and of course, plenty of theories about the possible fate of the main character in what was then an unconfirmed second season. The first season turned out to be the most successful. At the time, the concept of deadly games felt fresh, and the characters were interesting enough to make you genuinely care about what would happen next. However, the main issue with the series is the protagonist. Gi-hun is filled with an almost absurd sense of justice and righteousness, which feels incredibly out of place given the horrific conditions of the games. His friend seemed like the most reasonable character — a realist who acted according to the situation. But Gi-hun just couldn’t understand that, which makes him feel less like a grown man living in poverty and more like a naive child who refuses to change.

Jogaram tudo no lixo.

an unoriginal idea stretched so thin they can't justify it by the final few episodes. none of the socioeconomic ideas that are touched on in this are fleshed out, and character motivations are usually skin deep. Just terrible shallow writing and none of the visuals are anything special. I think this show may have been written to sell jumpsuits
