Put aside any fears of a sophomore slump. Think second-year sensation, as Hulu’s post-apocalyptic Paradise exceeds expectations with a surprising, emotionally exciting, and robustly suspenseful new chapter.

Sure, it can be a little soapy, but an ever-expanding ambition and continuously solid performances by its ensemble cast holds it all together and elevates it beyond just dadcore television.

What does it take for me to give something a 10! Well it has to really be able to stick with me. We are 5 or 6 episodes in on the show, and every week this show continuously, surprises me. Sterling K. Brown never put in a bad performance but in this he defines the word exceptional. Every scene he is in, I'm 100% immersed in the show.

What a surprise this show was! Binged entire season like crazy, it literally got me hooked from the beginning continuously till the end with surprising plot twists. Very well written, even if it's not a new concept, is superbly well executed. Majestic act for Sterling K. Brown, looking forward for the next season.

The big reward is episode seven’s full-blown, hyper-tense depiction of something terrible and terrifying. It’s one of the most exciting hours of TV in months, and by which point you’ll entirely sympathise with President Bradford’s ten bourbons-a-day habit.

By not taking itself too seriously, Paradise finds the perfect balance of pulp and drama and though season 2 can feel like a stepping stone of sorts, it's one that is endlessly riveting and truly exciting.

Fundamentally, “Paradise” falls into the narrative rut that befalls most sci-fi shows predicated on a populace existing long-term somewhere else, where the powerful have a vested interest in maintaining lies and manipulating perceptions. There are only so many ways to tell that story, but I give “Paradise” credit for finding a unique way into it.

A moreish if preposterous murder-mystery wrapped up in a swing-for-the-fences premise. If you think you know what to expect going in, think twice — it’s far more than just another day in paradise.

Julianne Nicholson does her best as a brittle tech guru, and Brown has charisma to spare as the befuddled hero, but the whole endeavour is as superficial and glossy as a Super Bowl half-time ad.

Terrible writing. Really terrible writing. It's a concept that has been done so much better in so many other shows. It's packed full of every trope you know from every other conspiracy show you've ever watched, but with worse writing than any of those other shows. The acting almost saves it. The acting is great, but the show is just not worth watching. EDIT: My initial review was after watching 4 episodes. After watching the last 4 episodes I have to say that the show gets much stronger. From episode 6 onwards it gets good and the final wrap up sets up really well for the next season. But I still can't score it more than as it's an 8 episode show stuffed with so much filler that it doesn't get good until the last 3 episodes.

Paradise is an ambitious series that blends political intrigue, sci-fi elements, and character-driven drama. On the positive side, the show does an excellent job of crafting tension and suspense. Sterling K. Brown delivers a compelling performance as a Secret Service agent caught in a web of conspiracies, bringing depth and credibility to his role. The show explores themes like power, loyalty, and human resilience, which give the narrative emotional weight and complexity. The cinematography and soundtrack are also noteworthy, adding to the overall atmosphere. However, there are some drawbacks. The pacing can feel uneven at times, with slower episodes that risk losing the audience's engagement. Additionally, the intricate storytelling, while creative, occasionally leads to confusion or feels unnecessarily convoluted. Some viewers might find the characters less developed than they could be, especially in comparison to similar shows in the **** summary, Paradise is a series with strong potential and impressive highlights, but it doesn't always land perfectly. It's a worthwhile watch for fans of political thrillers and science fiction, though it may not appeal to everyone. If you enjoy layered mysteries and moral dilemmas, this show might just be for you.

There should be a rating NOT FOR ADULTS. Started well. All downhill after... No focus on a central story or a theme -- dissolves in too many directions and 'characters' that are all just temporary distractions it seems... The art and craft of screenwriting is completely lost. Most of new streamers should benefit from hiring a script doctor, or two, or five... since they can't find a capable screenwriters it seems. Crap screenplays are pervasive and systemic issue these days -- unclear if this is a fault of writers or there is too many committees filled with incompetent suits who green light these poor attempts to be produced. Otherwise well produced and acted by a cast with a good screen presence and potential to make this (or anything well written) into a hit series. It is sad to watch some fine actors fight the war that is lost already after episode 3. Such a waste of time and talent.
