Most MCU shows feel like they are too stretched out. Like they would be better as shorter movies. This one feels like it would have been better as an email. The leads put on a great performance but the story is pretty boring and predictable. The scenes feel like they have masses of pauses and pointless dialogue just to stretch it out longer. And sadly the only real interesting part of the story was one spin-off episode that really didn't serve any purpose other than to be a distraction from the main story. It felt like the producers knew they didn't have enough for a show but they tried to fill the void anyway.

This show is for someone. A very specific someone. It's a show for fans of young teenage novels set in an angsty high school setting. People that are also Star Trek fans. And people that accept really, really terrible writing coupled with constant sub-par humour. This feels like a show made for exactly 6 people in the world. And I hope those 6 people enjoy it. But it's not a show for me.

First seasons was good but a little disjointed and confusing at times. Loaded with overacting and some poor writing. But it set up the world and the characters. Season 2 picked up majorly. Really entertaining.

Not a great show but it's good enough and I'm glad I watched it. It's the kind of show that you watch when you just want to relax and zone out. They are repeating the same plot as so many shows that have come before it, but Kevin Bacon's performance is solid and the gore is excellent. Plus the episodes are short so it's an easy binge watch. Just switch your brain off and enjoy the series. It also has a good ending. The downside is that the ending is a cliff hanger and I doubt the show will be renewed. If you're a fan of Supernatural then you may like this. Or you may consider it a poor immitation. Hard to say, but I still suggest watching it.

Terrible writing. Really terrible writing. It's a concept that has been done so much better in so many other shows. It's packed full of every trope you know from every other conspiracy show you've ever watched, but with worse writing than any of those other shows. The acting almost saves it. The acting is great, but the show is just not worth watching. EDIT: My initial review was after watching 4 episodes. After watching the last 4 episodes I have to say that the show gets much stronger. From episode 6 onwards it gets good and the final wrap up sets up really well for the next season. But I still can't score it more than as it's an 8 episode show stuffed with so much filler that it doesn't get good until the last 3 episodes.

So far I'm really enjoying this show, but it needs to be said that this show is oddly designed for the age of the audience. The whole show feels like it's targeted at kids, but some of the material feels a touch dark for anyone under 12. So it really narrows down the audience. If you watched the recent NZ remake of Monkey Magic/Journey to the West, you'll know what to expect. The humour is all very similar to that, but Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement lift it up another level. It's not a faithful recreation of the classic movie, and you have to ignore some Saturday cartoon writing. But it's an enjoyable show for the whole family.

The show feels a lot like the German Netflix masterpiece "Dark". It creates similar intrigue. It has some of the best acting you will see in a show. But unlike Dark, this show feels like it doesn't actually have a plan. It feels like the writers and directors don't know where the show is going, so they're throwing in a vague hint of story while dragging the show along until it eventually gets axed. If the show gets renewed for a 3rd season (which is highly unlikely} and they announce that it will be the last season, then I think this could be an excellent show with an excellent wrap up. If they instead get axed, or they give no hint of a finale. Then the show is probably still worth watching. Just keep in mind that it's a show designed to create intrigue and lead you toward a resolution. If there's no intent of actually providing a resolution, thenthe show would have done a lot better if they never included scifi and left it as a modern western family drama.

Nope. Just nope. Look. I have always been a fan of Mike Myers but this show is so extremely bad in every way. I'm pretty sure it was only made because Myers couldn't get work anywhere else and somehow convinced people to pick up his series where he plays 90% of the characters... Badly.

I have been a huge fan of the anime series since it first came out. Watch every episode way too many times. If you're expecting a faithful recreation, you're not going to get it. All that said, what you get is an amazing series. It captures a lot of the chaos and random comedy of the anime, but makes the show it's own with loosely based characters. It's sad that the show didn't get the viewers it deserved and has now been axed. I still rate it as one of the best shows of the year and well worth the watch.

The first episode feels more like a movie than a TV show with well directed cinematics, capturing much of what made Man of Steel great without suffering from its flaws. It focuses more on the family drama than the cookie cutter action of the other CW shows and it's all the better for it. I just hope the show continues this style of heart felt drama, and pray it doesn't degrade into the TV Sitcom-esque feel of shows like Flash and Supergirl.

Many reviewers are picking on the show for being overly politically correct or 'cause she's gay (they obviously didn't read the comic books), but that's not the problem with this show. The problem is a combination of really poor writing and really poor acting. Ruby Rose is the right person for the basics of this role. But the moment they try to include some emotional scenes it falls flat as she doesn't have the acting range for it. Her character appears to be heavily based on CW's Oliver Queen. Similar gruff exterior. The main difference is that Stephen Amell portrays a character with gruff exterior and hints of hidden emotion. Ruby Rose portrays a character with gruff exterior and the hidden emotional fortitude of a paper bag. At times it feels like she just can't be bothered to pretend that she cares about her character or any of the characters. Rose's portrayal aside, the story feels like it has been thrown together from a combination of the most boring bits of other DC TV Series and movies with the actors lines being written by a high school English student. I love the CW DC shows so I'm holding out hope that this improves, but right now it just feels like a show that's DOA.

Like most foreign Netflix shows, The Rain's English dub is horrible. But the show itself is excellent. A great Danish post apocalyptic show with strong dramatic relationships, interesting characters, and some decent twists to keep you interested. And it sets up well for a second season.

This series is good but it fails when it tries to hold close to its source material. The show is full of interest and has a lot of potential but it focuses on tired tropes and uninteresting characters rather than building a story of its own. This ruins a potentially great series. This is heavily reinforced with filler. Massive amounts of filler. Cut the show down to two 2 hour long episodes and it would be good. Unfortunately the interesting moments are fleeting, the morality is confusing, every Scifi trope is repeatedly pushed in your face. It had potential but it never lived up to its own hype. Cut it down to 2 hours and remove every link it has to Lost in Space and this could be a fun and interesting Scifi. Unfortunately this one is a bit of a boring flop.

Falling Water starts off feeling like a slower version of Twin Peaks. Over the course of the season it introduces some amazing concepts but the pace never moves beyond a slow crawl. For a show with such a deep and complex back story, poor writing results in a shallow experience with no real conclusion.

The show definitely has potential. It gives an interesting look into the caste system used on Krypton and introduces the potential for alternate time lines through the meddling of Adam Strange. The show could quickly fall back to formulaic angst filled drama with no direction or it could become a masterpiece. At this stage it's too early to tell but I like what I've experienced so far.

Absolutely loved it from start to finish. They created a perfectly messed up world, much like the world of Blade Runner but this one driven primarily by sexual desire and fetish rather than Capitalism. The story was intriguing and the finale was epic.

Dec 7, 2017
The show can be rather slow and can often feel like it's going to take the approach of Lost leaving questions unanswered, but it does all lead somewhere and it's an intriguing time travel thriller/mystery with some amazing performances. The show drags at times but the script and the actors more than make up for it. One word of caution though. Do NOT watch the English dub. It's terrible. It feels like amateur, emotionless actors reading a script for the first time. If you're not watching the original German dub then you're doing yourself a massive disservice.

Marvel's The Punisher: Season 1

User ScoreGunnerMcDagget
Nov 19, 2017
The Punisher is a breath of fresh air after The Defenders and Iron Fist. It's back to the gritty dark story that made Daredevil and Jessica Jones so good. John Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher is brilliant. Amber Rose Revah and Ebon Moss-Bachrach provide equally compelling performances as the support. The story is an interesting mix of spy game and conspiracy which can be forgiven for being a little too cliche. My only real gripe is the amount of episodes. There is a lot of filler here, and much like the filler found in Iron Fist and Luke Cage, it feels pointless. It seems like the extra things have been thrown in to drag out the series rather than to add to the story. This lets down an otherwise excellent show. It would have benefited from a much shorter 4-6 episode series.

10 minutes in I was ready to throw this show in the bin. It was horribly uncomfortable to watch. Awkward dialogue, misdirected attempts at humour, some of the worst acting I've seen. I'd forgive most people for giving up in the first 10 minutes as I almost did and I love Star Trek. But I gave it a chance. The rest of the first half of the prologue improved, not a lot though. There was a little injection of back story to help understand the driving force for the decisions of the main character. All in all it was rather boring and felt like a strain to watch. But I fought on. The end of the first part raised some interest. I was somewhat curious to see what happened next. Fortunately it didn't take long into the second part to realise that the entire first half of the prologue was a troll. It seems like it is only there to convince you that this will be a terrible show. The ensuing conflicts of allies and enemies turned the show from a total failure to something I genuinely wanted to watch. By the end of the prologue I was charged. I wanted more. But at this stage it's hard to judge. Where will the show go from here? By the end of the prologue everything has changed and the show is much better for it. If they can build on this formula then this could be a very special show. If it falls back into the style of the start of the prologue then the show won't last a season.

An amazing show from start to finish. On the surface it's an exciting science fiction/western drama with some stellar performances from a brilliant cast. Underneath is a hidden depth. An amazing mystery that results in an amazing climactic finale that answers many questions while also setting the show up for a very intriguing second season. Anthony Hopkins could easily carry the show himself with some excellent acting, but brilliant performances by Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright and many others bring this show to a head. Easily my favourite show of the year. You would do yourself a disservice if you don't watch it.

The OA is slow to start but eventually reaches its stride. By the 2nd last episode you're hooked and it feels like it's leading to massive climax. Then the last episode happens and it falls flat on its face. A vague and somewhat ridiculous ending ruined an otherwise entertaining series.
