The multicam sitcom is not a natural home for high-concept serialization, but between the format’s familiar beats, the solid sitcom chops of the Hart/Astin-led ensemble cast, and the propulsiveness of Nick’s long con—so deeply serialized that most episodes pick up in the same breath the previous one left off—No Good Nick handily comes together as a ripping low-stakes binge.

The veteran adult leads and the young actors do their best with this unlikely mix of gags and grifting, but we're not going to t try to con you into believing that it is essential viewing. [19/26 Apr 2019, p.90]

Unfortunately, the new series can't stop getting in its own way and, instead of developing into something relevant, enriching, or even just entertaining, arrives as a middling binge that won't make you laugh often enough, and will make you feel even less.

No Good Nick has the feel of a regular family sitcom but the story is much more complex as layers of it are stripped away revealing the delicate ulterior motive for all Nick's scams. As the series goes on, it all becomes a mind game for both characters and audience as they struggle to choose who to root for. The show also delicately analyzes the complexity of human nature and demonstrates how there is no good guy or bad guy, which is surprising for a seemingly light and comedic show. Every detail was well thought out, down to the wonderful acting, the wardrobe, and the setting. It is cheesy at times, but the connection to each character was worth it and I really hope there's more coming soon.
